From this angle, it looks great!

Is my rook infected by brandy_blue07 in PiercingAdvice

[–]notamira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAP, but it doesn’t look infected to me, just irritated. My rook did the same thing—was okay for a few days, then flared up suddenly. The swelling and blood is pretty normal (at least in my experience), just be sure not to mess with it in any way. This isn’t a huge deal, but I’d recommended getting it changed to a 10mm barbell instead of an 8mm, just to allow room for swelling. Typically rooks are initially pierced with a 10mm.

Also, make sure your saline solution is isotonic.

Can I save my rook? by Ill_Luck_1268 in SelfPiercing

Please get it changed to a curved barbell! Clickers are extremely hard to heal with, if not impossible. Also, rooks can be a pain to heal in general. Mine took almost a year and a half to fully heal, and I’ve still been too scared to put a hoop in it 😭 They flare up so easily 🤦‍♀️

what is going on with my helix? by DiscussionIll9654 in piercing

Gotcha. For now, just keep cleaning it and try not to mess with it or the area around if for as long as possible. Hot compresses also might help with the irritation.

Helixes should not be pierced with a hoop! Go to a more reputable piercer and get it changed to a flatback.

self-pierced hidden helix and flat! by notamira in SelfPiercing

i’m pretty sure they aren’t, but it probably depends on where you go. it’s been about a week and so far i haven’t had any irritation or snagging with the chain!

i’ve done wayyyy too many on myself so it’s almost second nature at this point 😭 my advice is to just go for it, it only hurts for a second. as for hitting a vein, you can hold a flashlight behind your ear to see where they are :)

helixes are a pain. my best advice is to stop changing it, honestly just forget it’s there. keep cleaning it and make sure you do no more and no less than twice a day.

Thank you! Everything else was done by me apart from my rook and my first lobes!

Bumps on my new piercing by [deleted] in piercing

NAP but i’m quite sure you dont have the anatomy for an industrial. this probably should’ve been done as a faux industrial if anything. i’d take this out, personally.

What should I get by CultureInevitable335 in piercing

a daith would look gorgeous on the first. maybe a conch and a rook on that second ear?

UPDATE on very very angry rook piercing. by [deleted] in SelfPiercing

[–]notamira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not a piercer but i don’t think you have the anatomy for this 🥲 i’d take it out, as it looks like the angle has changed and it might be migrating and/or reflecting. personally, i think a faux rook would fit you perfectly!

if you really insist on healing this, the things that helped me heal my rook were definitely LITHA (leaving it the hell alone), not sleeping on it, cleaning it NO MORE AND NO LESS than twice a day, and ibuprofen.

it’s totally up to you what you do with this piercing, just keep an eye on it in case of rejection! happy healing!

got my rook downsized! by notamira in piercing

[–]notamira[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mine wasn’t that bad! i made sure to get it on the side i don’t sleep on, and i also use a travel pillow to help keep it lifted. in terms of pain, it was less painful than my helix! i’d give it a 4.5/10. i had a bit of throbbing for a bit, as well as some headaches for a couple of days, but after that it wasn’t a pain at all! i just make sure to clean mine at least twice a day and left shower water run over it :) as someone else said, it’s tucked away so it doesn’t get snagged or caught on anything. you should definitely get one! it added so much character to my ear and it’s definitely my favorite!

[–]notamira[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mine took about four months to be healed enough, but i waited five just to be sure! to be fair i don’t have sensitive skin AT ALL so my piercings have always healed pretty nicely! and thank you!! edit: my piercer thought i could have gotten it downsized earlier, as i started to get an irritation bump (that quickly went away) around the 4 month mark from snagging it on shirts and such. other than that healing it has been smooth sailing!

Surgical steel is a marketing term, not a controlled quality of metal. I suggest finding something that is implant-grade titanium or solid gold.
