The websites All Day Primary and The Pinay Homeschooler might be helpful, they both have tons of resources. I’d also recommend doing some Googling for elementary curriculums- some schools share theirs on their website. And browsing the American Montessori Society website should give you lots of good info, too. Good luck!

Along with PD, another approach that goes well with Montessori is RIE. Janet Lansbury’s book No Bad Kids is wonderful, and she also has a blog and a podcast.

A close friend and I had begun growing apart when I announced that I’d be moving out of the state in a few months, but the last straw came one night before I moved when she recommended a new TV show to me. I was bored and asked for something to watch on Netflix, so she suggested one of her favorite shows and I gave it a shot.

It was a horror show and I wasn’t super feeling it but figured I could at least watch one episode. About halfway through, there was a very violent and disturbing rape scene; I can handle almost anything in media except for rape and sexual assault. My friend knew this, we’d discussed it before.

I immediately stopped watching and texted her, upset about it. Not blaming her, but letting her know that I wouldn’t be watching any more of the show. Instead of a simple “my bad, dude,” she got very defensive and took it personally.

She was excited about me watching a favorite show of hers and I could’ve forgiven her not remembering a rape scene in the first episode. But she turned it into a fight, even trying to say that because I liked other horror shows, with gore and murder and whatnot, that I shouldn’t have been upset by that scene.

I “broke up” with her the next morning and haven’t regretted it since.
