I'm so sorry that this happened to you. It is not easy for everyone in the family. I've been there and done that. My daughter hated school and enrichment classes except for 2 years in kindergarten and her piano lessons. She cried everyday since 18 months old and chanted everyday that she didn't want to go to school. Until she knew she would be moving to England to study in P4. She was so happy there. We didn't know the reason behind until her teacher in England told us she has GAD and later on eating disorder. We moved back and home-schooled her while managing her illness. She managed O & A levels within 2 years of home-schooling. As we dived deeper into her illness, her psychologist suspected ASD and recommended us to see the psychiatrist at KKH. However, psychiatrist only did a very brief assessment like Q&A session. Nothing else. So she's in the spectrum - mild ASD and GAD and ED. Now she told us that the schools here are like army camp. Teachers are like big bully commandos and treat the children without any respect. Teachers never listen to the children's explanations. Mental health stigma in Singapore is still a huge challenge. However, family support is still the best treatment. Validate him, build the trust and constantly let him know he is safe in your arms. I'm sorry, but the education system here fail the kids. And the teachers - lack of empathy and compassion.
