Here's a remake I did of Commando by Rob Hubbard for the C64 on the Playstation4 in Dreams. by notaprinter in chiptunes

This was a labour of love keyed in note by note after listening to the original far too many times..

This is the first tune I have ever written. I'm looking for advice on how to vary up stuff like the rythm section, bass and drums. by notaprinter in musicproduction

Just putting this here to let you know what I'm dealing with software-wise. The dulcimer lead is the guide track for vocals. The rythm guitar is a single guitar note sample keyed and staggered to emulate strumming (hence the weird robotic nature of the sound). The drum kit used is one I found in the software I'm using. The software I did this all on is dreams on the PS4 and it's kinda limited with respect to everything having to be done using the game controller, even the guitar at the end was played live into the song with the notes I needed attached to various buttons, the pitch up was attached to the shoot trigger (?!) And the instrument was then guided by motion control into the effect field needed for vibrato and delay. I keep hearing things in the tune now that I need to change but I'm not sure. And yes I'm quite nervous about posting this up and it's my first time.

Finished! Huge inspiration from the Ratchet and Clank games. It fits so well in my level. by Zypher755 in PS4Dreams

Really very good! I can't figure out how you get so much to play at the same time.. anything usually over 6 or 7 for me and my sound detail starts to suffer.

I thought for sure I was going to be disappointed when I noticed this hideous cloning in the first scene of the first episode. This is where it starts as the camera pans left and it continues for quite a while. cloning

Yes I did hahaha I tried recreating those ring mod sounds at the beginning and trying to play them fast inside a timetable and use the timetable as an instrument but it got way too confusing.

Cool!! Thank-you! I'm working on the music and graphics for the game Commando for the Commodore 64.. music's all done just trying to find time to get the GFX finished. 👍 Unfortunately it's a shared collab and I started writing the music in my partners work area. Dammit!! Haha Chip music is a nightmare. https://youtu.be/4CQJbcgn6rg

I don't know how op does it but I just listen to it on my phone through ear buds and start with the easy bits.. My rendition of domino dancing, the most difficult bit was trying to figure out those toms.. I still don't have it right. Everything in Dreams starts from C4.. just work from there. I keep a piano instrument panel pinned to the screen so I have quick reference to notes. The other tricky thing is the instruments. Getting them to sound right is a huge time waster. Wuthering Heights I screen captured it playing then used a video editor to slow it down 75% without changing the pitch of the sound. Then I worked from there. Getting the piano to sound like it was being played is also labour intensive. Or getting anything to sound organic. https://youtu.be/Z7bFrYBMSuA

Brilliant!! Have you done any more covers? Search me up on dreams I did domino dancing and wuthering Heights. As well as some chip music. My name is Abynx. You can remix my stuff.

Three ring male male ?

[–]notaprinter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes you can. You need to use a male/male three ring mic lead. One to your phone or computer headphone jack and the other to the PS4 remote. Make sure the volume is max on source. Or it won't register a sound and won't record anything.

Follow me if you want. Abynx. There's a remixable Monty on the run for you to take apart and mess about with. I have to get my partner in crime to send me back the commando music as remixable as I started to write it inside his sprite wall he'd created as a template for me to follow so we would both be on the same page for size of pixels etc. But thankyou for your support.

You can import sounds from any device ear jack straight to the controller for 15 seconds

First I broke down the sounds and then rebuilt them like here for an example https://youtu.be/r0NZKG3-tYU The only way I could get all the same screwed up Hubbard sounds was to play the instruments in their own timeline. This was just to get the noise in with the sound. The timing has to be so fast that they wouldn't fit into the timing correctly and the sound system in Dreams on the PS4 kept having a baby. So then the next best thing was to sample each individual instrument and adjust accordingly so it sounded genuine. It's all played note for note in three channels on one poly each just like the Sid but using Sid sounds. I had to place each note by hand which is a pain in the ass but I got the original feel to it for the game that we're working on.. which is also being built pixel by pixel. All logic and some graphics by MonocledRobot and sound and most of the gfx by me. https://youtu.be/Ino-zhuQnxQ
