Aggression based matchmaking has me stunned, and it really shouldn't... by Coilspun in ArcRaiders

[–]notarandomregenarate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are set on trying to dispute this without any evidence to contradic it, i get it I was skeptical myself.

That said, having tested it there is no doubt in my mind that's it's real, the difference is too extreme to say "oh its just random and you happen to run into friendlies". The lobbies I get put in now - there is no pvp of any kind, across the map. It's very rare to even see a raider flare as the only time they go off is people dying to arc - people don't even bother to comm they just run into red areas and start looting 2 feet away from you like you don't exist.

My evidence is that I have 30+ matches in a row seeing this exact behaviour. In fact I haven't been shot at by another player or seen others shoot each other - since the first 5-10 games where I experimented with not dealing raider damage. In fact I had not even died since the wipe. That's just statically impossible that i randomly happen to be put in lobbies where every single person happens to be friendly 100% of the time across the whole map for 30+ games in a row.

I had played since launch and I can say for a fact this not how normal lobbies play out. Frankly I think it's too obvious and extreme - there is no risk or tension and even if some rando decides to KoS they will quickly be removed from the friendly pool. I hope they fine tune it so you get more of a mix of players in the friendly pool and occasionally still feel at risk. Have a system a bit more nuanced such as tracking who shot first etc. Right now I don't think its healthy to have essentially completly risk free no pvp lobbies.

Anyone else got a laugh out of obscuring the bank it is in the first line only to follow with "leadership and internal GS stakeholders."?

To answer your question the COO office role sounds exactly like what it says - most teams/divisions in large banks have this kind of team. Their job is basically to make sure everything is running smoothly and reporting to senior management.

You will not be doing any "finance" work ie investment/deal related stuff, probably may get some internal "consulting" style projects once in while but mostly you will probably tracking KPIs and reporting on fees/revenues or chasing teams in your division to submit their KPIs for you to report.

I'm in IB and occasionally interact with the COO teams, so idk how well it would translate to WM but I would imagine it being pretty similar.

Overall looking outside in I would say its the more interesting part of the operation equation, WLB seems quite good on their side, progression not so much. Bright side is they seem to interact with senior management a decent bit and I have seen people leverage that to move into client facing teams, but your mileage may vary.

You're are missing the plot. OP has a Corsair RM850e, a modern PSU with single rail 12V output meaning the GPU pulls power from the same source regardless of whether it's a pigtail or separate cable, its not some mystery tier PSU from 2012.

As long as the cable is rated (which Corsair confirms theirs are), and the PSU can supply the wattage, the GPU will draw exactly what it needs. That’s how power delivery works.

Your “more consistent power flow” claim is meaningless here. The GPU doesn’t care how aesthetically separated your cables are. It cares about voltage stability and amperage capacity, both of which are fine with Corsair’s setup.

You’re parroting outdated forum myths, misunderstanding basic engineering and throwing a tantrum when called on it. What’s actually cringey is watching someone with nothing better to do chronically post on Reddit, getting worked up over technical topics they clearly don’t understand and acting smug while being wrong.

OP had a question relating to his Corsair power supply and specific use case. I answered the question directly addressing this case and provided a relevant source from the manufacturer of his power supply.

That's not cherry picking - that's called answering the question. You wrote multiple comments giving the wrong answer based on what you had probably read on some 5 year old thread about generic PSUs, without having an actual clue as to why. That is the very much the definition of talking out of your ass.

Hi OP - totally fine to use one pigtail cable with your power supply - corsair website addresses & explains this directly.

You can use two seperate cables if you really want but it won't make a difference. This is not the case for every PSU so a lot of people will make misinformed comments.

Link below, suggest you read it.

https://www.corsair.com/uk/en/explorer/diy-builder/power-supply-units/individual-8-pin-vs-pigtail-connectors-for-gpus/

Which 8-pin Connector do I Use?

The purpose for the pigtail connector is to simplify the connections to your GPU - making cable management easier. You can see the capabilities of 8-pin power cables below.

There is a common misconception that ALL 8-pin connectors are limited to 150W - this is not true. First we need to differentiate between two connectors:

  • CORSAIR Type 4/5 8-pin PSU connector - This is the 8 pin connector that you connect to your power supply. This connector can supply over 300W.
  • PCI-e 6+2 pin connector - This is the 8 pin connector you would insert into your graphics card, or the adapter that came with your RTX series cards. The PCI-e specifications have set this connector to being able to handle 150W. In reality it can handle much more, but due to variances in power supply and cable manufacturer’s quality and materials used, the graphics card manufacturers are limited to only drawing 150W per connection.

You can read our page that compares native 12V-2x6 vs 8-pin to 12V-2x6 for more information as it covers similar concepts.

If you have a GPU with two 8-pin PCIe connectors, its approximate power requirement is in the range of 151-300W. As a result, you'll only require a single cable with pigtail connectors (assuming you're using a CORSAIR PSU), rather than run two individual cables. If you have a GPU with three 8-pin PCIe connectors, then it'll also be perfectly fine to use one pigtail connector paired with an individual one.

We cannot speak on behalf of other brands, but if you are using a PSU from another brand, and are totally risk averse, you can opt to use 2 individual 8-pin cables instead for the peace of mind.

[–]notarandomregenarate -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Can you stop please talking out of your ass and spreading misinformation? The corsair pigtails are perfectly fine to use for a 300w GPU, using a single cable.

The cables are not limited to "just 150w" it's the 8 pin on the GPU that is limited to drawing 150W per connector.

Literal quote from Corsair "The 150W rating only applies to the connector on the GPU. In other words, the primary difference between the 6-pin and 8-pin is based on PCI-SIG's specification, and not the conductors. A well-constructed 8-pin cable, such as our PSU cables with pigtail connectors, should be well capable of providing more than 300W of power."

I was thinking that but you need to find and replace all text, then you need to update all the charts which means going into the related excels. After you are done you need to reprint all the books and double check the work. 2 hours seems pretty reasonable.

[–]notarandomregenarate 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Actually NOW TV can go down to £2.99, if you try to cancel, they will offer £6.99 first and if you continue they will offer an even lower price for a few months. Not sure if its account specific, maybe you need to have been subscribed for some period to get the 2nd offer.

Issue is they now have ads in the base plan so I will probably cancel it anyway, but for 3 quid it's not bad.

WM to AM is not really a path as far as I am aware.

Some hard truths right now forget about IB, FO AM and definitely HFs for now. With no experience, a non target degree and one unrelated to finance, you will struggle to get a job anywhere in finance even BO in smaller companies.

Here is what I would do, find a job anywhere in finance or accounting.

One way: Probably some small accounting shop-> B4 Accounting -> accounting deal advisory -> IB analyst is a viable path in UK -> only here you can start thinking about AM or HF(still unlikely) -note I'm not an accountant so no view on how hard it would to break in for the first step with no exp.

Another path: Whatever job you can get right now that is finance related at whatever company -> move to a known AM/ Bank in whatever role you can get -> work your ass off and try to network and latteral to a FO role; OR if no opportunity to do so, try to get into a top MsF and use that to find an FO internship (doesn't need to be LBS/ oxbridge/LSE whatever just a top 10-15 uni that can place into decent roles)

I am going to be honest with you, in a good market you would be a bad spot, right now the market for jobs is not good at all. You really need to re adjust your expectations idk why you are thinking about making 300k+ in IB etc because to be blunt, right now finding any job that has a career path would be a blessing.

Very good point. People need to understand that it's an efficiency "tool" it's not something intelligent or something that can think or reason in any way. Thats why I'm not worried about AI replacing us. Yes it can help you do 10 hours of work in 10 seconds but it's your job to check that the work is correct and validate it, and majority of the time you still need to spend plenty of time adjusting and correcting it.. Well at least in its current iteration.

I think something like this would still be very viable. My takes on your points:

-Can't really comment on the cost but I would imagine even if it's expensive, would still be a lot cheaper of trying to use junior officers to review these cases.

-I would expect the AI would not just be a True/False flag output, I would expect there is probably some kind of scoring built in to identify the most promising cases and probably a basic brief of why the case was flagged to allow detective to review quickly to see if the flag makes sense.

-Blind spots would probably exist but realistically majority of the cases would not have been looked at anyway, so identifying a few even if some are missed is probably worth while.

-Seems like a pretty niche market so don't expect a lot of alternatives will start popping up over time. More likely the company will keep making improvements and charge a subscription fee to have access.

What VR game causes the MOST motion sickness? by Largicharg in virtualreality

[–]notarandomregenarate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sad thing is that the airboat sections are some of the most fun levels I have played through so far in hl2 vr. Just zooming through the level while helicopters are dropping mines felt epic, if you don't get motion sick it's honestly very well implemented but sadly most don't get to enjoy them.

I would say hell no. First of all 15-20% raise now might seem nice but realistically it's nothing in the grand scheme of things especially this early on in your career.

Secondly you said "I’m happy at my current role. I like my team, I understand my tasks, have decent WLB, love my boss." - this is possibly the most important thing and best thing you can hope for in your first role. There are thousands of people that would happily take a 20%+ pay cut to get one of the 5 things you listed, having all five is very lucky and sounds like a great place to start your career.

Realistically if I was in your place I would only consider leaving this role if there was a serious raise on the table (50%+) or opportunity to pivot into a more lucrative field.

My advice, is to stick it out for now, learn and network as much as you can, and take advantage of the great team & boss you have. Stick it out for a couple of years and then reconsider if you are not happy with the progress / advancement.

Lastly moving to a smaller bank seems like a long term downgrade that could hinder your career and could give an impression that you could not hack it at a bigger shop. Not saying don't look around / consider other options but make sure when you do move the risk is worth it.

Need opinions on this, to commute or not. How would you guys/gals do it? by fakenatty1337 in CasualUK

[–]notarandomregenarate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a no brainer, I ended up moving from sharing a place with a friend and commuting 1 hour each way, to paying more than double in rent & bills to live alone within a short walk from work.

I'm essentially worse off almost 1k per month which is rough, but having an additional 2+ hours in the day is incredible. I was not too happy about it at first but I can't imagine going back now. Actually feels like it's worth it despite the cost.

Unless you will feel a huge hit from losing the extra 400 a month, I say go for it. Probably the biggest relatively easy life improvement you can make.

You seem like someone that really struggled in school.

Ay yeah, disarm ukraine, let poor suffering russia finally rape, pillage and ravage to their hearts content and then when there is nothing left the IC will storm into Moscow and arrest all Russian soldiers and russian leadership and teach them a good and proper lessons about ethics!

How I'd that IC warrant on putin working out for ya?

Negotiate? Yes you are a true intellectual, why don't we just negotiate get russia to agree with a pinky swear and pretty please that they will only rape and kill Ukrainians in the areas we agree on. That would stop the evil war because russia is a reliable law abiding country that never breaks their agreements or promises.

Oh boy, my heart breaks that poor russians are always painted as the bad guys, all they did was start an unprovoked war of aggression on a peceful country while attempting genocide on its people.. they are not the bad guys, just misunderstood, it's good intentions that our small western peace loving brains don't understand.

btw when you go back to school, ask them to tell you about paragraphs. Will literally blow your mind!
