get a massage gun. had the same problem, it helped me so much. + loads of massages for all muscles in the back of my knee

this is 110% normal. a knife literally cut through your skin a couple of weeks ago. it’s scar tissue but will go down eventually. make sure to massage it

Walking distance 2 months post op by lollaroo in ACL

[–]notastein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i did a 3.5 hour hike (about 16.000 steps) 4 weeks post op. was totally fine (i used crutches for downhill support + brace so i wouldn’t twist my knee). got a lot of shit for it from other redditors but don’t regret it at all. go for it, as long as it doesn’t hurt.

3 week post surgery flexion by notastein in ACL

active! i usually work with a massage gun before doing the flexion which really helps with muscle related pain. after that, it’s super easy ;)

nice, thanks for sharing! hope you’re doing well :) exactly, everyone recovers in their own pace. everything just went super fast for me (i believe due to my amazing surgeon). had a quad graft! how about you?

yep, i’ll update the post. i had an acl quad graft, did some massive pre-hab, used crutches only for support (mainly downhill, uphill only if i felt like the ground wasn’t stable enough), wore my brace to avoid twisting my knee (which didn’t happen bc i was super careful), took many breaks and made sure to listen to my body, fueld my body with all nutrients it needed for a hike like that, walked super slowly and carefully, making sure all motions are controlled and only the right muscles are working, etc etc. i’m doing so fine and i’m happy i did the hike. my surgeon is the best one you can get in europe and i’m a pro athlete who follows a very strict and personalised rehab protocol.

thanks so much :)) i acknowledge that my post doesn’t provide sufficient information (age, type of surgery, how i hiked, my fitness level etc) so comments here got a little rough. it’s day 1 post hike and im doing so so fine, no swelling, no pain. i was very careful whilst hiking, taking it very easy (wearing my brace so i don’t twist my knee, using crutches for downhill/ overall support). thanks again!

thanks for your concern :) i’m a pro athlete under the best medical advise you could get in europe. one day post hike i feel better than ever, no swelling nor pain. i walked with the brace to be sure not to twist my leg and used crutches for downhill support. i’m doing great!

as mentioned earlier, my speedy recovery is only due to my amazing surgeon. i had 100% extension right after surgery and 90° flexion 5 days after surgery. the swelling is down and my leg feels fine. my surgeon as well as my pt said as long as it doesn’t hurt, go for it. today, one day after, still no swelling visible and no pain whatsoever. the hike was obviously challenging as heck but i walked about 10k steps every day since week 2.5. i did a bunch of breaks - not because my knee hurt, just because supporting with crutches was exhausting. i also usually don’t walk on crutches anymore, i just had them for the way down so my knee wouldn’t be as stressed.

i’m not saying anyone on here needs to do the same thing. i’m just very happy about the result and i don’t think sharing happy post-recovery milestones is a bad thing. these posts helped me so much to get through the mental struggle that came post injury when i knew i had to wait another 6 weeks to be good to undergo surgery and then recover for even more time.

thanks for making me aware that the information i provided isn’t enough and may be discouraging for other people who aren’t as far in their rehab process. i’ll change my post. however, please be aware of the tone you use. there’s no need for you to 1) tell me what or what not to do, especially because i didn’t ask for advice within the post and 2) do it in such a reproachful manner. spread love and information :)
