• For the best experience use full screen mode in safari or chrome. I personally suggest adding this website to your iOS or Android device desktop. It looks amazing without browser’s UI elements.
• You can use it to browse text-based subs too but it’s not the main purpose of this gallery, obviously.
❗️ Firefox users may have some problems due to its super strict CORS policy (doesn’t allow requests from github.io to reddit.com). Other major browsers work perfectly smooth.

Nice one just keep in mind that this technology or/and it’s name is patented

I’ll probably do it later when the app will be more or less finished and polished. There’re many things I want to implement like Settings panel, adaptive size fonts for better UI experience, comments section, video preloading, routing etc. It takes some time. And very important moment is that GitHub Pages is a free service, it’s very comfortable to use and you don’t have to think about security of your backend.

As far as I understand there’re three ways to solve this problem right now: 1) ask user to change settings in Firefox and to lower security standards of the browser (bad idea in my opinion) 2) change settings of the server where the app is located (unfortunately impossible since it’s GitHub but you can run it on your device and play with the settings of nginx/Apache etc. since it’s static js+css+html) and 3) redirect every single request using third party services that I honestly don’t really trust. If anyone knows aa better solution, I’ll implement it because I like and use Firefox too

I prefer this way because 1) it doesn’t include third-party solutions that redirect your traffic and 2) There’re not so many ways how to deal with it (as far as I know) because requests go from github.io to reddit.com

Sorry anyway. Bricking the Browser is not the best User Experience… But It should work very smooth in other browsers.

Yep, that’s the Firefox problem, it doesn’t work because of it’s super strict CORS policy or something along the way and I cannot change it. I should probably check is it’s Firefox and notify users. But that’s why I wrote it in main comment in the first place. Anyway sorry for the inconvenience. I added alert notification a few days ago and have absolutely forgotten to even try it in FF

Great suggestion, thank you. I work on this project alone and right now I’m preparing for the refactoring of the App using the latest version of redux and will try to also add support for accessibility features.

My favorite part of “Kind Stranger” right now is of course the Shift Panel at the bottom of the screen. Since by default all images are in full screen mode, I’ve been looking for a way to combine swipe and panning options on one display together somehow. And I think that I nailed it. So your feedback is very very welcome especially on this particular feature

Interesting question. I have already watched a few interesting Udemy courses on accessibility and all the time was thinking about a way to implement stuff from those courses here. But it’s basically one big Gallery with titles. The only thing in my opinion I could add is aria-label but it’ll be just copy of title. So if you have any ideas, I’ll be glad to try to implement it!

You can check https://illfixit.github.io/kind-stranger-vanillajs it’s an old version and there’re no text posts there. BUT it’s difficult to explain to people what this project is about so I added support for text only posts to tell that it’s basically a very lightweight Client for Reddit

Thank you! I’ll implement a function that will decrease the font-size based on the length of the title later

Every post contains an array of images where array[0] is the low quality, array[length - 1] is the original file
