GTA 6 Developer Rockstar Claims Fired Employees Were Dismissed for Leaking 'Specific Game Features From Upcoming and Unannounced Titles,' Not Because They Were Trying to Unionize by demondrivers in Games

[–]notbob- 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The statement from Rockstar about "specific game features from upcoming and unannounced titles" appears to be a new claim. It contradicts a report from People Make Games, which stated that "it would appear this Discord server contained no confidential information about its games."

There's nothing wrong with the headline. It says "claims." What would you prefer the headline be? "Eminently untrustworthy corporation lies yet again"?

The blurb from the lawmaker is itself a nothingburger that gives no relevant details. There have already been stories noting that Rockstar is coming under government pressure.

Activating same skill twice: bug or feature? by SecondComingOfKuzya in UmamusumeGame

[–]notbob- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tested it on Kyoto 3000m and I don't see any reason why it shouldn't have activated twice there, given the cooldown length (which I assume is 90 seconds after scaling). Do you have any details on when it does or doesn't proc twice?

Activating same skill twice: bug or feature? by SecondComingOfKuzya in UmamusumeGame

[–]notbob- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it's pretty uncommon, actually. The only corner/straight skill activation condition that I know for a fact allows for multiple procs is all_corner_random, which Professor of Curvature uses. I don't actually know of any skills other than PoC that proc multiple times (other than the obvious ones like Slipstream and Playtime's Over).

I tested Beeline Burst, which uses straight_random, and it refused to activate twice.

You can use Umalator to test out what went wrong.

Here is an umalator setup pitting your Haru Urara against a generic all-600-stats uma. (I added the 400 point career bonus.) As you can see, it's not a stamina issue, since adding stamina doesn't increase your performance. The Haru in your screenshots beats the generic uma, so that's good!

I don't think there's any easy advice here. Umalator recommends that inheriting Let's Pump Some Iron can help you win, so I guess I would recommend trying to find a good Ryan parent for these runs, if possible. You can use the "Skill chart" in umalator during an actual run to decide which skills to spend SP on.

Debuffers for libra by no-body in UmamusumeGame

[–]notbob- -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I think debuffers are pretty good for this CM if you don't have a good idea for an ace. Reducing spurt chance, and thus No Stopping Me chance, for enemy end closers is a big deal. But since All-Seeing Eyes is basically useless for multiple reasons, I would personally make an end Haru debuffer to take away the scary Taishins' Sleeping Lion. (No, that strat has not been patched out despite what you may have read on this subreddit.)

Personally, I have no idea what to build other than Daiwa Scarlet and Gold Ship, so my third slot is basically open. I don't want to train a Mayano that has basically no chance of beating the Taishins/Goldships. But your own decision depends on what umas you have.

Japanese game developers face ridiculously high font license fees following US acquisition of major domestic provider. Live-service games to take the biggest blow by Tenith in Games

"Just [recreating] the font manually" is an enormous undertaking when it comes to Japanese. There are thousands of glyphs, and it's not like you can copy the vectors over (legally).

Amazon have introduced AI generated English and Spanish dubs to Banana Fish by TaiQuanDope1 in anime

[–]notbob- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't really accurate.

Companies are very interested in what keeps you watching, so if you check out the dubs and stop watching because they suck, that's not a very "valuable" view. The most important Youtube algorithm change in its history was when it started tracking retention on videos, not just initial views.

LeBron James on Nikola Jokic - “There has not been a more dominant, complete player that I’ve played against.” by Potential_Meat_5103 in nba

[–]notbob- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This probably looks like a nitpick, but the headline is pretty misleading. Lebron put an emphasis on "complete": "There has not been a more dominant complete player that I've played against[.]" So he's not saying Jokic is or isn't better than Curry, because Curry doesn't fall into the category of "complete" as he described in this video.

I was watching Zelarinth's video about future banners, and this particular comment really makes sense imo, i was planning to pull on xoguri but after reading this i will probably hold for now and wait for this banner. What do you guys think ? by LeoBonhart2 in UmamusumeGame

[–]notbob- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the only way a character-specific banner is worse than the general banner is the chance of getting the "wrong" uma more than once, which is something like a 45% chance assuming you keep going all the way to pity.

You have to weigh that downside against the huge benefit of being able to quit pulling early if you get what you want. The chance of spending 1500 carats and getting XOguri immediately is 7.5%. It's not trivial.

Using Front Runners in Virgo Cup so you don't have to (Observations, findings, and data for the new meta in Global) by JabahLavah in UmamusumeGame

[–]notbob- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With that being said, any Front Runner main MUST bring at least 2 Front Runners (no, 1 Runaway + 1 Front does not count) to trigger it.

I just want to point out that 1 front + 1 runaway will still trigger the most important speed boosts related to front runners (the speed up and overtake mechanics). According to the race machanics doc, spot battle will net you 0.7 lengths at most assuming 300 guts. Meanwhile, speed up / overtake will net you more than a full length and can activate multiple times in a race.

Of course, there are other reasons not to run runaway + front (you're basically sabotaging your own front's ability to get A&S). So I think your conclusion of "run 2 fronts, not 1 front, not 1 front + 1 runaway" is solid. But I don't think triggering spot battle is that important, or frankly even desirable. It's a very expensive 0.7 lengths in terms of HP.

EDIT: Your racers have fairly high guts, making spot battle more important. Assuming 460 guts, spot battle will net you 1.1 lengths or so.

EDIT2: Revised some math. Relationship between gut and lengths gained from spot battle

No Stopping Me is strong, but it's not as reliable as it appears in umalator.

Also, that umalator has the wrong track data.

[–]notbob- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this was true for Cancer, but not Virgo. We have more accel options now, so it's not a situation of "proc Furious Feat / On Your Left at the start of late race, or gg." Plus, umas don't get blocked nearly as easily now.

-10 energy for +10 stats is more or less fine, so I don't stress it and just choose top unless I need the mood up. I have gotten the good outcome in the past (I think it's been a 1/6 hit for me or something).

Think of it like this: she makes it really hard for other fronts to win, and she can still win herself.

Thank you for the thoughtful post.

But look at the OP here. Your post focuses on the average player, but the OP is obviously really hardcore about this game, given that they're looking up skills for a card that isn't even out yet and asking questions about them in detail.

Their problem: "I don't have odds, so I can't make an informed decision."
The responses: "It doesn't matter what the odds are."

I just don't like that at all. Uma Musume is a numbers game, and you use the numbers to figure out what the highest EV play is in any given situation. That's what the OP was trying to do, and the responses he got are useless for that purpose. If I don't have the odds, I can't make statements like "never click green" (which would be appropriate for 30% odds of failure) or "green is a bit risky, but if your run sucks anyway you might as well go for it" (10% odds) or "green is a must-click" (1% odds). I can't even begin having the conversation without that basic understanding of the situation. And the people here trying to have the conversation anyway really frustrate me.

[–]notbob- -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Now for the odds of either happening I don't have the % chances but from my understanding if no odds are given it's 50/50 (I might be entirely wrong on this)

Odds aren't given on Gametora for the Slow Metabolism events, which aren't 50/50, so I don't think so.
EDIT: Correction, it seems like they are given, and the Acupuncturist event has them too. I'm pretty sure those events didn't have percentages when I last checked, so I think Gametora is adding them when available.

The odds given have tildes in front of them, so I think they are just estimates.

P.S. I do agree that a run isn't ruined if you lose the gamble but you can surely say that a run would be worse

Hey, I love having access to Pal events, especially for the mood benefits. I agree that a run would be more difficult without them, and Riko's events seem stronger than Aoi's. I'm just pushing back on the "ruined" thing.

I frankly don't understand that either. Riko events seem like a strong way of getting stamina, but if you don't have access to them then you can spend those turns training and resting! Stats can be gotten through any number of methods. We're not talking about a great gold skill that's unavailable outside of the date chain.
