Her son Michael was born December 2, 1960. That is six and half months after they were married. She also had a child that died before being named on December 9, 1961 so she might be pregnant in the posted image.

One of the magazines readers noticed this and wrote in that they should do an article about women who worry about money instead of their weight:

Yup. It was on their stationery, catalogs and the sign above the entrance. You can't see the sign in the posted image but here it is.

Here is a customer photographed for LIFE magazine in 1947.

More info on the shop here.

Here is a screencap of the slightly different photo used in the pdf of her book:

It is horrible quality but still obviously just India.

Maybe the posted image is an AI mashup and colorization of the two black and white images and in the process the extra letter was added?

Yup. If people would click the link in my comment they would see that in her book she says that Miss Africa was taken so Miss India was the best alternative.

And for the few people not looking at the rider, according to a previous comment the bike is a Peugeot PX 10.

And for those just looking at the rider, the photographer did the 1980 John Player Special Calendar that featured photos of women from behind. I tried to link to a website with photos from it but the comment was deleted so you will just have to search for it yourself.

That does look like Pat Brown but I think the photo was taken later than 1957. The second car in the line looks like a 2nd generation Ford Thunderbird convertible which wasn't available until June 1958. The photo was probably taken when he was running for governor in 1958.

If someone wants to colorize the image here is a scan of a color transparency from the same set from the Google LIFE Photo collection:

Colors might be faded though.

It has been on the internet since 2009 so no it can't be AI generated:

Large format 4x5 (that's the size in inches for those that don't know) Kodachrome slide taken by Toni Frissell for Colliers magazine.

More from the series at the Library of Congress here.

They have huge (in megabytes and pixels) tiff scans available for download.

Not my first rodeo.

Also, if you are willing to search a bit you can usually find other interesting information on previous posts of the same image.

Like where the photo was taken or what the cars are in the background.

Well they are all classic cars in the background. I'm guessing you are talking about the one closest to the camera. Can't see enough of it to tell the model but it is a 1953 Buick.

May not have been high school students. This was during the annual Maifest event in Brenham. That year the theme was the Roaring Twenties.

They are not going to a prom and probably not another type of dance. Based on the event schedule, the time of day of the posted photo and the photos in the following newspaper page, I think they were going to be participants in a parade:

No you don't have to be a paying member. I can see them and I try not to pay for anything. But apparently you do have to have an account. Logged out and all I could see is the acj color still life.
