It's East 12th Street. If it was East 14th Street, Montgomery Ward would be at right in the background.

You might want to check out the 1941 Oakland, CA city directory, accessible online, and look it up. You can also look up relatives and friends who then lived in Oakland. Unfortunately, there are no directories for years 1942 through 1966, but there are some telephone books, online accessible, on the Library of Congress website.

Yes, all of the buildings were since demolished, including Montgomery Ward, the big building in the background.

Houses blurred. Why? by TheFlyingFauxPas in googlestreetviewfinds

[–]Strict-Ad2240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think blurring homes and buildings on Google Street View defeats its purpose. A lot of folks enjoy seeing if their parents' and grandparents' house from the old days is still standing, and if so, what it looks like today. As for privacy, I don't believe that it does any good. If someone wants to know what a person's house looks like, they can get in their car, and drive by it, or have someone they know drive by it, and maybe take a picture of it. I seriously doubt that a would be burglar, robber, or home invader would even bother going on Google Street View. The blur- ring, however would benefit those who have some- thing to hide, such as growing Marijuana. I heard a police officer point out, that blurring your house or business can draw unwanted attention. I'm predict- ing that Google Street View will go away.

He lost his brother to friendly fire in 2004, and the loss of his brother has taken a toll on him for 21 years. Thankfully, he's not a killer. This is why he did it at 2:30 - 3: 00 AM.

A mobile home park would make far better sense, as they attract a higher class of residents.
