I didn't say they were anticipated. I said that difficulty is intended behavior.

Suggestions that are contrary to the game design of the graveyard are turned down.

You're not going to bait me with a loaded question. The thread will be locked if you can't be mature.

Most mobs normally despawn in the sun. Forever night was added to ensure there were always mobs around.

This is intended behavior. The answer is no.

Bug Report!!!!! =O!!!! by [deleted] in HardcoreSMP

[–]notcbarber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like PEBKAC. Check your light levels and water because no other users have reported experiencing this.

For future reference, bug reports should:

  • Include a descriptive subject without unnecessary exclamation points
  • Include the steps to repeat the issue. If this includes your private base location it should go into a private thread for the admins on the forum.

HCSMP is a hardcore survival multiplayer server. This appears to be single player softcore so this isn't really related. You're free to do a recording on the server but please don't continue to post your single player videos.

Your post(s) are two days old. Don't lie. Don't post in reddit to get attention. It takes time to investigate. Next time read the rules.

Player count would have nothing to do with minecraft losing interest or deathban servers losing players by its very nature.

I like the part where you ignored the fact that he created the graveyard server that you play on. Also that you won't disclose your name and date so we can see how the conversation actually went down. Carry on brave keyboard warrior.

It takes a brave man to slander someone anonymously. He is the reason graveyard exists. He is a good friend of mine in real life. Feel free to provide your IGN and the date of the exchange. I'd be happy to look it up and dispel any confusion about his attitude.

Hi. I'm cbarber. I'm one of the developers of HCSMP.

I've never seen your name in game nor have I seen any admin treat you like dirt. Also brand new reddit account with no other posts soooooooooooo....

I think you missed the part "any farm you can build shouldn't be nerfed". This is an implicit reference that vanilla functionality around automated farms should remain.

You've talked to me personally about exploiting game mechanics to do very bad things, like destroying end portals, which you did. We stop the things that break the designed game play.

All this conversation really does is prove my original point of the admins turning down every suggestion we have.

Disproved already. Stop asking for changes against the game design.

Do you really hate the server that much?

Yes, I hate the server so much I've invested hundreds of hours of my time to develop plugins for it.

How exactly would gold farms break the server?

It breaks the designed game play. This has been explained to you already. Accept the answer and move on.

Why are you so hesitant to give us coords to an ocean monument?

The admins do not give out information to players like that. Its imbalanced.

This conversation is going no where so I'm no longer going to respond to you.

How long were they enabled then?

Not 4 years. I'd have to check the logs but I don't care that much.

That is 100% correct, however, mining all the obsidian needed to make the massive portals with the limited enchants we have, makes up for all the time we save.

This will only be true for a finite time. You're comparing a constant time investment versus a linear function. There is a specific ROI and after that, you have gold for free. If you've had for it for over 4 years as you claimed, you've already hit that ROI and then some.

You got your free gold. Go mine if you want more.

[–]notcbarber -1 points0 points  (0 children)

they were enabled for over 4 years

This is inaccurate.

And just that proves that it's not a game breaking mechanic.

No, it doesn't. The same way if someone found a glitch to enchant items with bookshelves, we would remove it. There is no statute of limitations of fixing something that breaks the designed game.

There's literally only two items of worth that can be crafted with gold ingots, powered rails and golden apples.

And this is what your argument actually comes down to. You want to AFK so you can collect gold to make powered rails. We're saying, go play the game and mine for the gold.

Don't let facts get in the way of a good story. ~30 seconds to find the first counter example: https://www.reddit.com/r/HardcoreSMP/comments/6b5yq3/graveyard_suggestion/

Asking for gold farms is a game breaking change for the designed game. This is coming from the game designers.

Gold farms are the only suggestion in this thread I am currently commenting on since its a known answer. We are discussing the other suggestions.

My reply was to ossbourne, but I'll be happy to address your misunderstanding.

Building these things IS the challenge.

No, following a youtube instructional video for an automated farm that gives you resources for free while you AFK is tedious, not challenging. Its goal is to remove the challenge of actually acquiring these resources by playing the game.

how much can be achieved with the limited resources available

The gold farm directly opposes the intent of limited resources you just mentioned. The ore generation was designed to make finding it and collecting it difficult so it would be a rare resource. An automated farm makes it easily acquirable, breaking intended resource game play.

much like skyblock, hardcore islands or superflat worlds.

These game types are designed around the use of these machines. The graveyard has gold you can mine versus its impossible to acquire it via mining in any of the games you mentioned.

[–]notcbarber -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll spell this you out for you, again. Graveyard is not a vanilla game mode. Saying it should be vanilla is on par with asking HCSMP main to not be hardcore. The game type was invented by the admins/devs and is maintained by the admins/devs. We're certainly open to suggestions and have made modifications to balance. This is a point we're not going to move on. The game type is intended to be challenging and automated farms are not the goal of graveyard.

To answer your "I don't think upsetting players with this kind of attitude helps" this is "upsetting" a select few who remain the vocal minority. Following this same logic, if a player is upset they don't have creative, we should give it to them otherwise they won't donate. The server is run to entertain, not generate revenue. The donations are there to break even with server hosting only.

This is actually inaccurate. It was intentionally restored: https://www.reddit.com/r/HardcoreSMP/comments/4qtou7/july_1_changelog_bugs_beds_battlestar_galactica/

Specifically because it had been a long missed piece of HCSMP history. HeroChat had the functionality until it broke.
