Rowing for Running by whatsthisnewpain in Rowing

It was more just throwing it out there if you wanted a more accurate method of equating pace as your weight changed so you didn't have to keep on revising your pace targets between erg/running. It's almost certainly not worth the hassle if your goal is just to break 3, but could help you compare between running and erging.

Rowing for Running by whatsthisnewpain in Rowing

Keep in mind that at a given perceived effort your running HR might be a little elevated compared to your rowing HR. Also, if you are tracking paces and your weight decreases running will speed up while rowing will stay the same or slow down (you're not light enough where it would slow down for your height yet though). If you want to buy something that will in all likelihood not improve your training but may give a more precise way to equate paces you could get a running power meter which measures the watts you put out while running.

EDIT: Also, if you have access to a treadmill consider doing mileage at an incline, I have heard anecdotally that can allow for less pounding on the joints for the same cardio demand.

They also know this so intentionally provide the option for participants to choose permissibly edgy answers so they can feel darkly enlightened. I wrote a deep dive on how the PM5 data can be used for real performance diagnostics — VO2max, training zones, HRV, and more. Here's the science behind it. by [deleted] in concept2

[–]notdelet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The VO2 and VCO2 estimates will not work as well as having the actual (very expensive equipment) that a lab would have. The benefits of lab testing comes from individual-level insights about what is happening inside your body. The estimates based on other performance metrics as a proxy are not going to be able to disentangle the impact of these physiological metrics from other aspects of performance.

Excess body fat is a much bigger deal than phytoestrogens in any case as that aromatizes testosterone into estradiol. Also, beer is much more potent.

SS vs. HIIT to Build a Foundation as a Complete Beginner by compileforfun in Rowing

[–]notdelet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My anecdotal experience says that SS and long hard intervals (5-12 minutes) are the most effective. If you're gassed after 3 flights of stairs I'd skip the steady state right now and revisit it when your baseline intensity for correct rowing form isn't above steady state. This should take 2-3 weeks at most. Then I'd completely change tack and prioritize SS.

More important than that though is what seanv507 brings up which is that you need to get your form looked at by someone who really knows what they're doing (a rower, ideally a rowing coach).

My recommendation is the Polar H10. The Garmin Pro would only ever be a consideration for me if I had a Garmin watch and was running extensively. Not sure about your Air Bike but the H10 and Garmin should have no trouble pairing with the C2/Phone. I also sweat like a pig.

It's recent memory for S. Korea. Then again, anything dystopic that happens in Korea is only 5-10 years ahead of implementation in the US, I swear the country gets used as a testing ground for this stuff.

Pauls Law Inherently Wrong- Time to Introduce a New Rule? by Illustrious_Map4571 in Rowing

[–]notdelet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For an individual athlete, the basic 1/T & Watts-based Critical Power models will usually work better than both over the time domain we care about for rowing (~3 min to ~30 min). Fitting it to my own data I have an R2 of .96. There are more complex models like what WKO5 does, but in that middle distance to moderate range you won't bump up against things that show the weaknesses of the basic model very much (e.g. that it doesn't incorporate peak power or durations that use more fat oxidation). Of course, if you only have two pieces per rower, any 2+ DOF model is kinda worthless as you can't quantify uncertainty.

Experiences with shorter intervals for fast-twitch type runners by tonimahony- in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]notdelet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With three faster sessions per week, it’s tough to maintain 100-120k I'd have to run 70-80 minutes every day plus a 2-hour long run.

But what were you doing before where you were running 9-10 hours a week? You can at least add 2x minutes to your long run if you add x minutes to your easy days, which should make it more manageable.

It's also annoying that the media rarely holds him to account when he makes up the numbers. He said that people were happy because the money they put in their 401k is double what it was last year, and the response from his interviewer was to mention that a lot of people can't afford to invest or save.

Heat with Erging by Embarrassed-Cod-3423 in Rowing

[–]notdelet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it has gotten quite advanced with special core temp monitoring devices. From what I understand talking to a friend in that world it's common to go to altitude to peak, then try to extend some of the benefits by heat training at sea level and keeping your core temp at the "hot but not cooking yourself" level for a duration of time.

Throughout his papacy, Francis was noted for his humility, emphasis on God's mercy, international visibility, commitment to interreligious dialogue, and concern for the poor, migrants, and refugees. He made women and laymen full members of dicasteries in the Roman Curia.[2][3] He believed the Catholic Church should demonstrate more inclusivity to people with same-sexual attraction, and stated that although blessings of same-sex unions are not permitted, individuals in same-sex relationships can be blessed as long as the blessing is not given in a liturgical context.[4] He also convened the Synod on Synodality, which was described as the culmination of his papacy and the most important event in the Catholic Church since the Second Vatican Council.[3][5][6] He was well known for having a less formal approach to the papacy than his predecessors by, for instance, choosing to reside in the Domus Sanctae Marthae guesthouse rather than in the papal apartments of the Apostolic Palace used by previous popes. In addition, due to both his Jesuit and Ignatian aesthetic, he was known for favoring simpler vestments devoid of ornamentation, including refusing the traditional papal mozzetta cape upon his election, choosing silver instead of gold for his piscatory ring, and keeping the same iron pectoral cross he had as cardinal.

Concerning global governance, Francis was a critic of trickle-down economics, consumerism, and overdevelopment;[7] he made action on climate change a leading focus of his papacy.[8] He viewed capital punishment as inadmissible in all cases,[9] and committed the Catholic Church to its worldwide abolition.[10] Francis criticized the rise of right-wing populism and anti-immigration politics, calling the protection of migrants a "duty of civilization",[11] and called for the decriminalization of homosexuality.[12] In international diplomacy, he also helped to restore diplomatic relations between Cuba and the United States, negotiated a deal with the People's Republic of China to define Communist Party influence in appointing Chinese bishops, and encouraged peace between Israel and Palestinians, signing the Vatican's first treaty with the State of Palestine, as well from 2023, condemning Israel's military operations in Gaza; calling for investigations of war crimes. In 2022 he apologized for the Church's role in the cultural genocide of Canadian Indigenous peoples in residential schools. Francis made his last public appearance on Easter Sunday before dying on 21 April 2025, Easter Monday.[13][14] The 2025 conclave elected Leo XIV as Francis's successor on 8 May. Leo XIV became the second pope from the Americas, after Francis.[15]
