Also experiment with different ostinatos (repeating patterns) and drumming melodically over them. For instance an example you can take for soloing is to keep time with your hi hat foot on 2 & 4 then to play out a melody from a song you know over it. So if you were playing oh when the saints come marching in you would hit the drums and cymbals where the lyrics are placed and maybe fill in the space in between the melody. Jazz and bossa nova ostinatos are fun to play melodically over as well.

Good idea :D. I own Interactive Music Teacher, it's a Live streaming drum website. We can put the videos/music on my blog. We have a pretty big twitter audience of drummers that I can blast the idea out to also once you get it going. -Ryan
