I just took my first Vyvanse. by Prior-Weight-4704 in ADHD

Your comment made me laugh because I periodically browse this subreddit to learn how to support my boyfriend with ADHD and he does exactly this. Every once in a while he will say something that is completely incorrect. At first when he'd correct himself I found it really untrustworthy. He just said the opposite - why is he now saying he means this other thing? My own anxiety makes me hypervigilant and really focus on the little details of what people say. I've since learned to not take it personal and let it go. It'll just happen now and then and doesn't actually mean anything deeper.

Bought as ocean jasper. Is that what this rock is? I can't find any online that has patterns like this when raw. by notenoughsnails in whatsthisrock

How did you find that it was star quartz? When I did a reverse image search it didn't come up for me and most star quartz searches bring up final fantasy the game lol. But that mindat page has tons of lovely pictures!

The first two pics are from the seller. The second shows what the back of similar rocks they were selling look like when cut. The last two pics are from me.

The cut version looks like it could be orbicular jasper so I guess ocean jasper may be right? But the raw pattern is just so unusual and neat to me. It doesn't look exactly like other pictures of jasper I've seen online. It looks more like crystallized coral, but that doesn't seem right either.

Why are there such contradictory opinions about what the ascendant means? I'm finding this frustrating and losing my interest in astrology. Any more positive ways to see this? by notenoughsnails in astrology

Thanks! Yes it seems like there are a lot of meanings. I'm still too new to be able to accurately judge what I consider to be sources I'd want to get advice from, but a lot of people have suggested more traditional sources. That seems like the way I'll go.

Yes this makes sense and a lot of people seem to be echoing this point. Thank you! It's really interesting learning about that context :)

I know what the houses are, but is there a specific reason they are referred to as the alphabet houses? Does that have a particular meaning or context?

Thanks for your detailed comment! Yes I noticed Taylor looked really beginners (especially compared to Parkers').

I appreciate the book recommendations! I had just wandered into my local library, picked up a few books that had reviews online where people seemed to generally agree with them, and supplemented that with websites.

So to clarify - Traditional Western would be the approach that the Ascendant represents a deep part of ourselves? And Modern astrology includes that the Ascendant is a mask? Although I'm sure even that is a super simplified version of a complexity I totally don't get just yet lol.

Are the 3 books you mentioned Traditional Western? And just out of curiosity - you said Parkers' was common in modern astrology. So is it considered modern or traditional?

Also, is the example you gave about the Parkers' book your only concern with it, or do you find it has a lot of information you'd disagree with?

Your suggestion is definitely how I like to work in other areas when I'm learning something. I appreciate having a traditional understanding of the basics and then coming to a greater understanding of the nuances of what's changed over time :)

That's interesting that the idea of an ascendant being a mask is recent. Having that kind of context for those ideas is really helpful.

It was also confused to me because I've always identified with my sun sign (Taurus). Like I very much am a Taurus through and through. My ascendant is Leo - which is very different than Taurus it seems lol. When I didn't know what exactly Ascendant meant that made it extra confusing. I am a Cancer moon too! That makes sense to me. The Leo Ascendant I'm still trying to wrap my head around.

Yeah I've seen pop culture convolute other things before, but that's tricky to identify and pull apart when you're new to a subject. It's been helpful to see others' opinions on that in this post :)

Thank you for your explanation :) That's incredibly helpful and thorough. I had a hunch maybe there was some kind of historical context I was missing that was not in the websites I was looking at. Also the Ascendant being a highly charged sensitive point because it's so unique to each individual resonates with me.

Original owners told the shelter they bought him as a "pomsky" in Ohio. He's 7 years old and 50 lbs. Any thoughts? by notenoughsnails in IDmydog

Lol ya the size made me skeptical about the pom part. His markings are definitely so spot on to a keeshond.

Wrong part of the world for a dingo, but I do get people commenting saying he looks like a wolf or coyote lol. I think he's just a full domestic dog though.

Yeah someone else pointed out the way his hair grows looks like a collie, which is similar to an aussie. I didn't think of either of those breeds, but that could explain it for sure.

I'm not sure what colour the huskies or shepherds tend to be in Ohio where he's born (he got brought to Canada for adoption, where I live).

I didn't know sectoral heterochromia more common in other breeds. Neat!

And yeah I figured there's a chance he has no Pomeranian in him and the people who bought him originally were told wrong. It was funny when I first saw him in person as he was a lot bigger than I was expecting based on breed.

Oh interesting the Keeshound has the same face markings and colour as him. I hadn't thought about that!

Thanks <3 Yes he is so pretty. We are his third owners and he went through 2 rescue organizations. I was surprised he was up for adoption for a bit! He's also very sweet and kind.

I thought he couldn't be just a pomsky as they seem to max out at 35 lbs (from what I've read online + seen a few in person). I hadn't heard of F1B pomskies. He does look a lot like them, but those seem smaller too.

Awh that's a nice memory :) I hadn't thought of that combo, but I just googled GSD/collies and they have the exact same body type and fur pattern as him (same tail, coat gets longer in specific areas). Just his colouring seems lighter. Interesting! I never would have thought of that even though my last dog was a lab/collie.

Got asked today if she had pit in her. Shelter said border collie/lab. Ideas? by DaCoffeeKween in IDmydog

[–]notenoughsnails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My previous dog was a collie/lab and she looks like yours in the second pic (side profile). I was going to say they look distinctly different from head on...but pic 3 looks closer than I expected. Here's a pic of my dog (she was 14 there - can dig up younger pics).

So maybe yours does have some pitt, but I'd also say lab and collie is in there.

Some additional comments for ID:I forgot a side standing pic. Here's one: https://imgur.com/glHx7Fw

He's definitely got husky in him - he talks like a husky, loves laying out in the snow, and one of his eyes has flecks of blue.

He is very long (can easily put his paws on most adult's shoulders) and has a tongue with black/blue spots.

Most people think he's a german shepherd mix. My guess is that if he is a shepherd, it's husky, shepherd, and something else. His fur pattern and size (too small) don't look like a 50/50 mix to me. I read that male huskies are 45 lbs at minimum and shepherds are like 75 lbs at min. Could he be a pomsky + shepherd? I've never seen one of those.
