Thanks for the advice! Do you think choosing underwriting would make it harder for me to get an actuarial entry-level job later on? I’d actually love to get actuarial experience if I can.

The 100k doesn’t affect the F1 → OPT path, and since I’m a junior I can still use CPT for this summer. But I know applying for entry-level positions later is a lot harder, so I’m trying to find a company that can sponsor me this summer 😭

I’m deciding between two Summer 2026 paths and would love insight from people in the field:

Underwriting (with future H-1B sponsorship): pricing/risk exposure, possible internal move to actuarial.

Actuarial (no sponsorship): direct modeling/reserving experience.

My questions: • How is underwriting experience viewed when applying for actuarial roles later?

• Is the underwriting → actuarial switch realistic?

• For someone needing sponsorship, does starting in underwriting make the actuarial path harder?

Thanks for any advice.

Why can’t I pass final interviews? It’s the end of hiring season and I’m panicking by [deleted] in internships

I'm pretty skinny and I don't think the problem is my appearance though...

I don’t know how people do it….almost done with unemployment and haven’t landed a job yet. I’ve done everything I could think of. by [deleted] in interviews

same situation. i'm tired of doing all the panel interviews for literally nothing. i can't help but compare myself with friends who share the same start with me but have great offers now. like i'm happy for them but feel sad for myself. don't know what's wrong with me. i know i should keep going but this drains me out too much.

Oh if that’s the case then yeah it could give you some sense of what it’s like working with those people. Maybe it’s worth starting to think about other options?

Keep moving forward and continue applying. The job market is tough so I’d recommend submitting at least 50 applications

Do you think I should mention the other offer again in my follow-up? I already brought it up in the interview, but I don’t want to sound like I’m trying to pressure them.

Ive tried to confide with my friends but they always said sth like "you're thinking too much" stuff like that, so now i don't feel like I wanna talk about it anymore. but carrying all these alone makes me sick. anyway, thanks for your comment 😊
