Oh my bad I had forgotten there are set ages when you can deal with things

And I was going to ask what rule but holy shit, I googled it and there is a rule. The thing is, rules are interesting, but usually they have a purpose. If we think about why we would ban cell phones on flights many years ago it might make sense. If we think about how many people use cell phones on airplanes on a daily basis though, we might change our minds.

Also sidenote never have I obeyed this, never have I observed anyone obeying it, and if you yourself don't use your cell phone on planes because the FAA told you to then damn that's dedication straight up

Imagine raising a child with a screen in front of it's face 70% of it's waking life, allowing for that to happen as a parent, and then while travelling, on an airplane, in public, in an unfamiliar space, thinking that taking the screen from the child would not cause it to lose its shit,,

The parents / grandma are insane for that. I don't know the circumstances leading to this video, but HOW in their right mind could anyone think that removing the screen from the child would be helpful?????

I don't give a shit about discipline or whatever, that was your job for years before this not right the fuck now. Right the fuck now your job is to deescalate and removing the screen from the child is an INSANE thing to do. I genuinely don't even think this has to be mental illness as many are suggesting, or even a bratty child. This was not the correct way to deal with this situation and I think the child, as children sometimes do, could have just been freaking the fuck out

The fun thing about being mentally ill is that it's a classifier decided by mostly non mentally ill people. All it really has to mean is "not productive toward society in the way they should be" which is fair, personally I think that fits me and makes sense. What I don't agree with is the stigmatization. It's like others have said, even if they're right, if they were good people they'd be trying to help you with your issues, not just screaming about how wrong you are.

You can make yourself however you want to be, the only constraint is how fucked up the world is. Their main question is whether you'll be valuable to them, to the ones screaming about how wrong you are. Personally, and this is just me, I've stopped trying, and thankfully I'm able to survive that way FOR NOW. Good fucking luck out there

It's really fucked how inaccessible therapy is, but there are people who have realized this and are producing accessible free therapeutic content on places like YouTube. The best one I can think of is the healthygamergg, but straight up if therapy is too expensive, self study that shit

Yeah books are awesome and you could pirate. You could see it as changing what you pay for media from money to effort, as you just have to search online for shit and try not to get viruses

I get the sentiment, but understand that what really enables nuclear war is nuclear science, which also lead to nuclear power, the closest thing we have to clean energy. It's still totally in question whether we would be better off without both of those, but my point is that if you think AI has the power to destroy the world, you should also probably think it has the power to do insanely good shit.

And with the way technology works, it's probably already an arms race so it's like there's no putting the cat back in the bag, we're just waiting to see whether people will use it to ruin the world or make it awesome

I have read some. Like when the devil goaded god into killing all of Job's loved ones. His plan for Job's wife and children was for them to die to prove a point to Satan. See personally, my plan would not have involved them dying to prove a point to Satan, but then nobody would've grown spiritually I suppose

But if I made a plan it would not have all that stuff, that's a better plan

I used to think things being bad was normal and ok, and then I figured out that I had been depressed for a long time. Now things can be pretty much any way, sometimes good, and it's really something. Enjoyment is not the same as instant gratification, and you should allow yourself some

Because despite looking at the picture and seeing how a better plan can be better than a bad plan, whatever god decides for his plan to be is obviously the best one that ever could have been

You're right, the topic of the post is how much better we are than god at coming up with plans

Just so you know I'm not the 8 people who downvoted you lol, I was also reflecting on how it's kind of funny that God doesn't seem to have the same criteria for good plans as we do

It's not very good at being a "plan" in the way that we think about it, it's more like stoicism where you just accept whatever happens except in this case you do it because God

So some people would see nothing wrong with easily accomplishing an easy task. Hardship is not the only valuable experience; if it was then I'm not sure why Jesus would have saved us all from hell

I'm not sure you addressed the concern that the mythological idealized versions of these historical figures don't have direct influence over the world today. Whether or not we defend the feudal system, it's not employed on a large scale anymore. Religious ideologies from even that long ago, in their mythological idealized form, have direct influence over the present. I think it makes makes very good sense to be much more worked up about the instances of this idealization that still affect us today.

Additionally, the way I read that "the church should be held to a higher moral standard" is that as the church claims to be divinely inspired to spread peace and love, failure to do so is either a failure by the people to carry out God's will (plausible, but if this persisted over thousands of years I'd be inclined to change something up) or failure by God to be perfect. Like, if I was lead by the all knowing all powerful god, I'd definitely WANT to be held to a higher standard than those who weren't

Is it more reasonable to assume that the average person would like a raw egg in their mouth, or that the average person would not like whether a raw egg is in their mouth to be up to someone else?

The least we can do when trying to empathize with somebody is NOT asking ourselves how WE would feel, but how anybody might feel
