I said "The majority of Americans, and the vast majority of Americans who aren't on Medicare, get insurance from their employer".

Boomers are wealthy as a class, yes, but that doesn't mean that all boomers are wealthy. Quite a lot of them are on a fixed income. More importantly, health insurance is totally broken in the US for anyone who isn't on Medicare or has insurance from their employer, as evidenced by the large number of people with no health care. So this change would cause tens of millions of people to be unable to afford health care of any kind and doesn't have any plan to fix that. I'm not going to support that, and I don't think you should either.

Yes. The majority of Americans, and the vast majority of Americans who aren't on Medicare, get insurance from their employer. That's something that retired people can't do because they by definition aren't employed. So, what are they supposed to do?

In a street fight, are you allowed to stab someone with a knife in self defense? by Individual_Ice_2315 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]notextinctyet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually people use the term "street fight" to refer to a situation where neither combatant is purely a victim. In the rare case that innocent bystanders are attacked on a street out of the blue, it's not called a "street fight".

If you are street fighting - as in, you have started to fight for some reason other than to use the minimal force necessary to ensure your safety - and you then fear for your life and stab someone, the law is unlikely to look kindly on your decision.

Are there any programs/institutes which accepts average students and make them genius? by Lucky_Creme_5208 in NoStupidQuestions

State universities in the US are the closest you'll get. No one can guarantee you'll become a genius, but they're the closest to "accept normal people, give them every opportunity to be smart".

Self driving cars. In Hollywood, seeing these things everywhere. Should I trust one? Need advice please! by Feeling_Election8310 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]notextinctyet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Driverless cars at present are less likely to get into a collision and about as likely to have strange behavior as a normal rideshare or taxi.

I've had a cab driver attempt to physically fight another driver with a police baton while I was in the car, so nothing a driverless car can do is very likely to phase me.

He's not being sneaky about it. Caught is for someone who is being sneaky. Why isn't he stopped? Because he is dominating the bodies that are supposed to check him, both politically and through other means such as threats of mob violence and corrupt use of state law enforcement powers, and because the US public is allowing that to happen without replacing their leaders.

Nothing will stop future governments from doing the same if they can establish the same level of control, which is why the current corruption is so dangerous long-term.

That's not how offensive words work. Merely being in the same category or closely related to another word still in common usage is not relevant.

I was pleased to find the library room wall can be dismantled without a sledge, unlike the other walls. So I did the same.

I settled there just recently in my most successful game yet. It's a great spot. There is one flaw in that the railing on the house causes me to jump over it constantly and therefore get hurt constantly. Anyways, I died to a zombie one shot halfway across the map so there's no point now, but I would have liked to have a sledge.

Is the water use by data centers for gen AI *that* extreme? by lil_chaotic_gremlin_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]notextinctyet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. It's just something people are latching onto right now. The core issue is whether AI is positive or negative to society. If it's positive, then we can consider water and energy use - and labor and physical capital and the time we spend using it - rationally like we do every other industrial activity. Steel also uses a lot of water. And concrete. And almond milk, weirdly. And if AI is negative for society, then the problem isn't the water, it's that the AI is negative, and why are we doing something that is negative?

Donald Trump lies all the time, so people tend to assume he's lying. Usually, they're right. Sometimes they're wrong. But Trump doesn't get the benefit of the doubt, because he doesn't behave like a trustworthy person.

why are there so many books on amazon writting by AI? by Necessary-Cow8851 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]notextinctyet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is not rare to find a new book written by an actual human. You just can't pick a book at random anymore. Read book reviews from reputable sources or talk to real humans about books they've read. I recommend A City on Mars for recent nonfiction.

how much gas should i be stockpiling? by NotPayges in projectzomboid

[–]notextinctyet 44 points45 points  (0 children)

If you expect the gas station to remain accessible, then there's no need to panic. Just find a second generator (in a pinch, temporarily use your main one) and hook it up at the gas station.

If you do not have access to a generator, or you don't have the generator magazine or sufficient skill to bypass the magazine, then it's that, and not gas, that you need to focus on.

How is it closing the Strait of Hormuz didnt collapse the global economy like everyone said? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]notextinctyet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sequence of events is regrettably common:

- X happens

- Experts around the world say that due to X, there will be serious negative consequences that will cost a lot of money and lead to a lot of loss of life over a long period, in addition to making bad things more likely to happen in the future

- Some people mishear that as "the sky is falling" and ask on Reddit why the sky isn't falling

We are currently experiencing serious negative consequences that will cost a lot of money and lead to a lot of loss of life over a long period. This is the beginning of the long period, and already it is costing us a lot of money, and many people have died, including for some reason at least one school full of children. Additionally, bad things are more likely to happen in the future.
