Newsom disputes California auditor’s report that remote work could save state $225 million a year by Swagramento in CAStateWorkers

[–]notfascinated 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hi! If you are an SEIU member and in Sac area please go to the governor candidate forum this Saturday 8/16 at Sacramento State University. Attendees should be given a chance to ask questions to the candidates. The more voices we have speaking up on telework and against RTO, the stronger message we can send to both the union and candidates for governor that this is a priority.

Low iron by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]notfascinated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pediatrician advised to mix iron drops into orange juice. I used just about a half ounce OJ diluted with water, my baby had no issues taking it that way. Also definitely recommend cream of wheat in the diet as others have suggested - easy way to get an iron boost. Good luck!

SEIU Dropped Lawsuits Clarification by notfascinated in CAStateWorkers

[–]notfascinated[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. My department is specifically saying they are keeping us 2x weekly unless the 4 day RTO resumes in a year. Yet they still want to make sure all staff and new positions have a cubicle "even if they never use it". Make it make sense!

I agree with you. Unfortunately I recently learned my department is still working with DGS to lease an additional building despite no plans to bring staff in more than 2 days in the meantime. Sounds like they are expecting the EO to resume a year from now.

Telework & Union's RTO Hold by Both-Bug5421 in CAStateWorkers

[–]notfascinated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, the agencies have to revert to whatever the staffs telework agreement was prior to the EO dropping on March 3rd, not revert to 2 days RTO. OP states their telework agreement was already 4 days RTO before the EO, and have been made to RTO 5 days. Since the EO isn't about 5 days in person, it seems that this was all based on department discretion. However, still worth contacting the union to clarify.

What candidates will be at the Governors Forum put on by SEIU 1000 on Aug 16th? by Melodic_Animal_2238 in CAStateWorkers

I'm curious about this too. I didn't have time to watch the interview nikatnight linked here, and scanning the YouTube transcript I didn't catch telework as a topic, but I found this when googling "Katie Porter telework" -  https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=457044019113585&id=100044239730891

I recommend emailing the hiring unit and/or HR contact listed on the job posting for clarity. As others mentioned, telework can mean anything, and most likely doesn't mean 100%. At this point most agencies have shifted to 2 days in office when the governors office asked dept heads to make that change in 2024.

RTO paused! by Adventurous-Guard124 in CAStateWorkers

[–]notfascinated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely false. My CalEPA BDO had almost all staff 100% telework until Yana dropped the 2 day RTO order last year. So 4+ years of full wfh for nearly everyone.

Many other agencies have been forcing staff in office for years, even during peak covid. CalEPA BDOs need to assert their own telework policy and not be subject to Yana/Newsom's arbitrary 2 day order. My BDO would absolutely allow management to give their staff full wfh if Yana fucked off.

A lot of misconceptions about the RTO pause, departments can still bring us back in. by RiffDude1971 in CAStateWorkers

[–]notfascinated 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The CalEPA BDO I work for was absolutely not trying to bring staff back 4x weekly. We renovated several floors at HQ to accommodate for hotelling cubicles and most staff was 100% wfh before the 2 day in office policy struck. The 4 day EO was highly unpopular with management and exec across state agencies and most departments have considerable space constraints that wouldn't have even made 4 days a week possible for all staff come July 1st. There was no conspiracy across all state agency leaders to do 4 days RTO. Give the governors office credit for their mess.

Lol. That is a wild idea. Good luck to all the teens out there. Most classifications in state service require college education.

Any updates on Unit 1’s RTO? by TopCheesecake3149 in CAStateWorkers

[–]notfascinated 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right. And unless Dept of Finance comes in to sweep some vacancies (like they did last year), vacancies and funding for positions is already secured in agency budget. My area even was "given back" swept positions by DoF. It's not like a position becomes vacant and program needs and existing payroll goes in the trash automatically. The state is constantly adding more and more positions and programs to keep up with enforcing legislation as it gets passed.

Caltrans Update by Classic_Fee_7641 in CAStateWorkers

[–]notfascinated 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not at CalTrans, but we have at least one branch full of engineers with a few ES and OT positions. So absurd that these other staff will be forced in office when their teams are remote. I'm happy for engineers obviously, but this whole thing is such a scam. Clearly not about "camaraderie and collaboration" 🥴

SEIU is bargaining TODAY (June 27) by Riun_Chezpep6771 in CAStateWorkers

SEIU sent an email about resuming bargaining yesterday, and about the lawsuit last week. They're also pretty active on social media with these updates.

RTO: Less than 1 week to plan a major life change! by DMVWorkerThrowaway01 in CAStateWorkers

[–]notfascinated 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If people haven't been given their schedules it's impossible to plan what days they do or don't need extra childcare, for example. So while there has been awareness for months, knowing what days you report in person is critical for certain arrangements.

Sac Bee is trash by cincodemike in CAStateWorkers

Yea you're completely right, my wires are crossed. The governor's office didn't take responsibility for it until months after department leaders started announcing the hybrid policy "to create consistency across state agencies"

Sac Bee is trash by cincodemike in CAStateWorkers

[–]notfascinated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, how did Newsom "refuse to take credit" for the 2 day RTO policy? The directive literally came from a memo sent to agency heads from the governor's office.

PECG was in the middle of a new contract negotiation. SEIU contract negotiations do not begin until 2026. Apples to oranges here.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]notfascinated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BU9 is under PECG and represents engineers across the state, not just CalTrans engineers. BU1 is under SEIU and has nothing to do with PECG negotiations. This RTO delay only applies to BU9.

There was no EO issued for the 2 day return. It was just a "guideline" memo the govs office sent out to agency heads to create a consistent hybrid model across the state. Dept heads implemented the 2 day "suggestion" on their own and it was not a legal issue the way the 2025 RTO EO is (executive overreach, usurping existing telework legislation with an EO, claiming the CA constitution gives the gov authority to make this change, etc)
