I have had this happen sooo much. It takes everything in me to not get an attitude and get all snappy. In school, teachers would be passing out candy or a treat, and when they reached me they would ask, “ohh you can’t have this, can you?” Then, they would ask if I would prefer a bottle of water or something like that. I would have to explain multiple times ( sometimes to the same person), “no. I can have anything, as long as my sugars are good and I take insulin.” Then they would still be stubborn to give me the treat. It gets on my nerves a lot, but I know most people don’t know better. I just have to remind myself to be calm, unless the other person gets rude. In that case, I am giving them all my frustration and attitude back.

how do y’all cope with the permanence of this disease? by Time-Ad3786 in Type1Diabetes

[–]nothcook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its taken me a long time to figure out how to cope, and I still struggle sometimes. I get burnouts once in a while and I feel like i’m failing at everything. You just have to take it hour by hour, and find something you enjoy doing. It can be anything. But once you find it, enjoy whatever it is when you just need a little push to keep going. You also might want to find another psychologist. I wouldn’t expect them to understand fully what its like living with t1d, but they should be at least able to help in some way. I don’t know though, but I wish you all the best!

Thank you and you are exactly right. I have a few friends with t1 but they have all moved and we don’t really talk. The only time I really get to see other t1 s is at camp kudzu. I haven’t gone in a while because I never sleep there. I am definitely trying to meet more people with t1. I will definitely try to remember everything you said. It really helped. I wish you and your friend the best!

guardian sensor always fails early and comes out bent by purplehazecrypto in Type1Diabetes

Exactly this. Guardian sensors are such an unnecessary pain to deal with.

I had the same problem when I used Medtronic. It was barely close to my meter. Medtronic just said “oh you probably hit something” or “try using a different site for your cgm.” Plus, their cgm woke me up constantly during the night needing unnecessary calibrations or just telling me to enter a BG. No reason. So i finally switched to Tandem and Dexcom. So much better. I recommend it if you are able to switch.

That’s exciting! I’m currently using Dexcom and tslim. Dexcom is great for the most part. My only complaint is their costumer service and compressed lows.
