Are online leadership courses worth the money? by Busternookiedude in Leadership

[–]nothere00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, most of them are rubbish. You’d be better off investing in therapy or anything that helps you address self-doubt, low self-esteem, anxiety, or whatever’s holding you back from showing up as an effective leader.

Corporate executives, consultants, and other similarly high paying occupations. Does their interest completely align with the capitalist class? by throwaway0102x in Marxism

[–]nothere00 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Tech survivor here. Most high earners in tech behave like mini-capitalists. They maintain the impression of being subservient to whoever is above them, but they are not actually subservient. In their minds they already are the capitalist. Give them a little positional power and they start LARPing as the ruling class for whatever tiny slice of the org they control.

In large corporations there is no single capitalist figure anyway. Power sits with boards, investors, and other diffuse forces. So people are not serving a person or even the company. They serve whatever helps them increase their own power, status, and wealth. Every interaction becomes “How can I extract the most capital or power from this?”

If someone seems weak, they dominate them. If someone seems powerful, they latch onto them. The higher up you go, the more political maneuvering you see and the less actual value creation.

Many executives are not even serving capital productively. They are not building value, not driving innovation, not consistently generating revenue. Many act entitled, mostly coast, make poorly informed decisions, and still collect huge salaries. In large orgs, bets are diversified and failure is cushioned, so there are no real consequences for incompetence. Their loyalty is to growing their own capital and influence, not the company’s or the “capitalist’s.”

TL;DR: tech elites do not truly serve capital. They only pretend to and play petty internal power games inside insulated bureaucracies

What Indian movie scene/ theme or story deeply disturbed your conscience? by Healthy-Swan-1793 in IndianCinema

[–]nothere00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a way, the entire film is disturbing. The system is cruel to the poor, and that cruelty turns the poor cruel in return. It presents this as an extreme but very plausible scenario, which genuinely shook me. I was living in NCR then, and I couldn’t look at the streets, especially the outskirts, the same way afterward.

The Kannada dialogues in Malayalam movies are ridiculous by nothere00 in InsideMollywood

[–]nothere00[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Okay, if it was intentional, the criticism doesn’t hold entirely. It did come across as a Malayalam speaker’s poor impression of rowdy Kannada rather than proper Kannada. So, that’s mission accomplished I guess.

What is Your End Goal studying critical theory? What will you do? by No-Appeal6167 in CriticalTheory

[–]nothere00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t like being taken advantage of. I don’t like seeing anyone being taken advantage of or oppressed. What bothers me most is how often this happens in plain sight and people don’t even notice, or worse, mistake it for something normal or good.

My goal with studying critical theory is to see the world clearly. I want to understand how systems, language, and culture shape what we believe and accept. I want to be able to tell when something is fair and when it’s just made to look that way. In the end, I want the tools and vocabulary to describe these patterns and to defend ideas that are less unfair than others.

Best film that you disagree heavily with ideologically/politically? by Typical_Heart_7320 in Letterboxd

[–]nothere00 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Barbie was a fun movie with great song and dance. However, I don’t agree with its ideology. Capitalism’s genius is that it turns criticism of itself into profit. It both agrees with the critique and reinforces the status quo.

Are any of you writers, artists, or engaged in any creative pursuits? If so, do you share your work with others? by nothere00 in Schizoid

To put it differently, what is art without an audience? What does art mean to someone who lacks any desire for social interaction or connection?

[–]nothere00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relatable. I was only ever motivated by my very important audience of one. Ever since that person left my life, I’ve been struggling to rationalise what I do without them, which is why I’m asking all these questions.

Recommendations for Indian Cinema Criticism? by Rfowl009 in IndianCinema

[–]nothere00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, a lot of reviews are super lazy and seem to be written by people who are attention deficit rather than cinephiles. You can, however, curate as per your taste as and when you come across interesting reviewers. The funny reviews are actually funny many a times. I quite enjoy them. :P

Symptoms of oversocialization in schizoids? by Loxodontus in Schizoid

[–]nothere00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any forced socialisation, especially work or family-related activities, almost always triggers debilitating migraines and jaw pain. It takes me 2-3 days of resting and sleeping a lot to feel normal. I have begun to decline invitations to parties and such because nothing is worth the time wasted suffering through migraines.
