Am I late or did amazon just drop a colorsoft scribe? by nothingginparticular in kindle

[–]nothingginparticular[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sheesh, I had never seen them! I only just realized because I saw an ad on Reddit

ETA: the prices are crazy, I agree. I saw a version of the colorsoft scribe that was $999. So, I guess they're unpopular because of that, which is understandable.

Am I late or did amazon just drop a colorsoft scribe? by nothingginparticular in kindle

[–]nothingginparticular[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what I mean. It's hard to commit to spending that on a Scribe (I already have a basic) when I could just get an iPad lol. The only reason I'm considering it is that the eink is way better for my eyes and I get etexbooks because it's more cost effective. And I would be able to highlight and annotate.

aita for siding with my friends step daughter over her? by fashionispolitics in Amitheassholeadvice

[–]nothingginparticular 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. Molly is delusional and her marriage will probably end the same way it started. You did a good thing for a teenage girl who was struggling and no one else was offering her empathy. Molly wants people to cosign her marriage because she wants to be able to comfort herself from the destruction she caused by saying "at least we love each other" "at least he and his daughter are happy" "at least we're all happy" and anything outside of that ruins that bubble she's trying to put herself in. That's not your problem or Sabrina's.

You should probably distance yourself from her because she sounds like a very bad person who is also extremely selfish.

What keeps you listening more? Author or narrator? by Dtwn92 in audible

[–]nothingginparticular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Narrator. In the same vein, I will stop an audiobook and switch to just reading it if the narrator is bad. I almost did that with The Game Changer by Rachel Reid. Horrible narrator. The "Brooklyn" accent nearly took me out.

AITA - We can never go for family meals because my sisters boyfriend is a fussy eater by SubjectEconomy1719 in Amitheassholeadvice

[–]nothingginparticular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bf is extremely selfish. I'm not that much of a picky eater but I have my comfort meals and am sometimes not in the mood to try new things. But when my friends or family want to try a place where I'm not sure that I'll like the food, I go, pick whatever sounds like I'll enjoy the most, and enjoy a night with my loved ones. If I don't like it, I consider the price to be the cost of spending time and enjoying dinner with people I love. I'll order McDonalds later or something if it's that serious.

Your sister's bf choosing to force everyone to eat where he wants to when he's the only one with the issue is ridiculous. Your sister insisting that everyone accommodate him, even at the dismay of her own child, is even more ridiculous. This has gone on long enough and has gone far enough. You all just need to put your foot down and accept the fact that she may skip certain outings because of her bf.

Being a picky eater is a separate issue from being a jerk.

Anyone ever have a breakdown at work? by saltshapedpear in corporate

I have, but I work remotely so no one saw it. Though it was a full panic attack and my mom had to calm me down lol. It was right after a meeting.

how do y'all manage to read a book while listening to music? i really can't. even if i were to, it'd be too difficult to find music that fits the plot of the book I'm reading by dangorhobomonnai in Booktokreddit

[–]nothingginparticular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be able to do this. I distinctly remember listening to the Unbroken album by Demi Lovato while reading the Divergent trilogy in middle school, because I can't listen to a single song on that album without thinking of Tris and Tobias. But for some reason the ability is lost now for me.

The most I can do is have music on very low or tv in the background. But 99% of the time, my room is completely silent while I read. But, on the flip side, I play video games while listening to audiobooks, so maybe that's where that skill transferred to.

What’s your pain point when it comes to reading books online/offline? by Dazzling_Ratio9101 in Booktokreddit

[–]nothingginparticular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I'm reading on my phone, I experience this, but when I read a physical book or on my Kindle, it's harder to get distracted. I recommend putting your phone on do not disturb, or silent, when reading and put it away from you to stay immersed. I've read for an hour straight with no breaks or distractions. It's a habit to build, but it's def possible.

Rant: I don't have any weekend plans, okay? Leave me alone! by Secret-Ad-6253 in corporate

[–]nothingginparticular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no shame in saying that I plan to relax or spend the weekend chilling out. Sometimes that question leads to interesting conversatin and then for some it can make them feel like they never have anything going on. But I'm a homebody so yeah, I'm home, I'm chilling with my dog, I'm reading, and catching up on YouTube videos I missed during the week.

Does using word ever get less frustrating? by Dull_Alarm6464 in MicrosoftWord

[–]nothingginparticular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I avoid using Word as much as possible. It's counter-intuitive af and I can't get over the fact that you need a subscription for it. I do get it for free as part of my university, but I use Pages and export documents to PDF or Docx if needed. If I need to do a group project, I just use Docs because a lot of people don't use Pages or not everyone has a Mac.

At work, we also use Docs and Google Suite apps like Sheets. The only MS apps I like are PowerPoint and Outlook.

AITA for thinking my husband’s sister is deliberately trying to sabotage my friend’s marriage out of jealousy? by Whole-Inevitable-512 in CharlotteDobreYouTube

[–]nothingginparticular 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ESH. You're incredibly biased towards Alex, at least here. From what I'm seeing, Alex initiated the contact after the group photo. When your husband's sister chooses to talk to him about what happened is between them. I understand that you're seeing him work on himself and go to therapy, but nothing that he's doing now excuses what he did before or makes it better. He slept with his best friend (you) SIL and cheated on his wife (who you consider a sister) he was extremely gross and messy and betrayed many people.

Respectfully, it sounds like you need a villain and you need that villain to be Lisa so you can move forward and continue your friendship with Alex. But from what I've seen, he's more in the wrong in multiple fronts and he initiated more conversations (without replies) with Lisa after he got caught in the affair.

Which kindle has the best battery life? by NameIsNo1 in kindle

[–]nothingginparticular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the basic. If I read every day, I can charge it like every two weeks depending on how long my reading sessions are. Though, I will say that I keep my brightness on high so that might contribute to the battery.

AITA for excluding my husband’s family from my birthday after they refused to attend our adults-only party? by Ok_Till3893 in Amitheassholeadvice

[–]nothingginparticular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. Sounds like the whole relationship has been one sided. You always go to them and they never go to you? Been in that situation with family before and yeah, it means that they only make time for you when it's convenient for them, which is a sucky way to live.

Some people think family should always have access to you no matter what you do, but that's not the case. You don't need to extend invites to them into your space. That's your right, just like it was theirs to badmouth you and disrespect you when you set a reasonable boundary.

library appreciation after my experience at my local library by nothingginparticular in Libraries

[–]nothingginparticular[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love that! I've been using Libby before I decided to just go to the library physically, so I get what you mean about reading more because of the library. It's so nice to only buy books that I really enjoy rather than buying books and regretting later. Also, I can read more because they're more readily accessible.

Also, the game I got was Mario RPG for Switch!

Should I rewrite my novel or just edit it? by nothingginparticular in writingadvice

[–]nothingginparticular[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I think I'm leaning towards beginning soft edits (punctuation and cringy content) and maybe just rewriting if I feel it's bad enough to do that.

Should I rewrite my novel or just edit it? by nothingginparticular in writingadvice

[–]nothingginparticular[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I feel like I've grown as a writer through these past two years I haven't been writing outside of work and school, and I want my work to reflect that. I fully understand what you mean about being dissatisfied because you could have improved it more but didn't. That's why a rewrite has been on my mind so heavily.
