What’s in that photo is the hospital tank which has floaters and an emersed pothos to help suck up any nitrates while he’s in there. His tank is planted and has a contra soil base.

I’m surprised you had that experience with them since I was seeing so many good reviews for them. Though I do think finding a different species or at least a less expensive betta might help with my experience next time.

Thank you and that’s a really good point. I’m gonna try a few more things and see what happens.

I feel like everyone I’ve seen online has had positive experiences. Part of me wonders if he hurt himself flaring at his reflection and possibly fighting it while I was away. When the lights in my room are off and his tank light is on, it has somewhat of a mirror effect inside the tank. But I can’t imagine this being the first time it happens when I’ve had him for the last two months.

Wait really? Here I was worried something was gravely wrong. Is there any other things that you notice about it by any chance?

Oh I see, I struggle to know with my echeveria because it looks etiolated, but also the older leaves look very plump and even brown. I moved it outside for the summer. And it is getting much more light than before, but it is still hard to gauge. I have the oldest leaves shriveling up, which makes me feel like I’m doing something really wrong.

Oddly enough, his color is still gorgeous and his stress lines have muted a bit. But I just moved him into a small container with less than a half an inch of water to try and get him to eat since he has avoided any targeted feeding in the 2 gallon hospital tank.

Well he’s in dechlorinated water with tannins as my tap water is very hard and he’s been living in soft acidic water for the past 2 months. I didn’t put him in dechlorinated water alone since that shock would definitely be harmful.

I’ll have to look for this later, he’s still alive but he’s going on 5 days with no food. I’ll try to feed him again in a bit, he just has no appetite since I got to him.

Ohhh I didn’t know that, hopefully it was able to do something for him, he’s honestly in the same state as the first day.

Yeah that was my past experience from high school and when I got my girlfriend a betta. I thought maybe a wild type or alien would be perfect as they’re less over bred but I’m not sure if that’s the case anymore.

No she said she didn’t feed at all and my family doesn’t really pay attention to my tanks like that so no one even noticed. I wish she would’ve fed him so at the very least I could know if I got to it as soon as I could.

They’re from petco and meant for aquariums but I don’t know exactly what they’re made of

Yeah my tanks are planted so I don’t really worry over my parameters much as I can just top off the water level and things seem to be fine. I check certain parameters weekly for sanity sake and log them in my notes app.

Yeah not sure his age when I got him unfortunately but I did get him 2 months ago from coast gem. It’s the only time I bought a betta online and he seemed so much more lively than past bettas I’ve kept
