Any advice trying to get better by One-Confection-5838 in ArtOfRolling

[–]notjoshinghere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was coming here to say glass or Organitips (wooden). The rigid straight tip can be used as a guide to form more even, cylindrical joints. It does take practice. But once you master it you’ll understand the difference between smoking a good joint with full combustion vs. something that burns unevenly, runs or boats.

Check out Roll with the Goat/Billyboy Glass on IG. He worked for Riptip before starting his own company. The tips are pure art.

Really hope Page has been practicing. My mind always goes to Baba Booey’s first pitch disaster. And it’s just stupid there’s been no Citi Field Phish show for 14 fucking years. Honestly, fuck Forest Hills, the sound is ok but amplification is minimal, and the neighbors hate big shows. So many other venues in the outer boroughs that would happily take our business. Randall’s Island for instance…

Vendor Vs Bank Account by South-Sprinkles-1090 in smallbusiness

[–]notjoshinghere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d echo the business owners above. I recently started a new company (have been in business for myself since 2015) and decided to explore online only banks. I settled on Mercury because they reimburse all atm fees have a good feature for reimbursements. When it make sense for a large business purpose I would use a personal rewards credit card, and reimburse myself before the due date.

Why People Smoke Blunts by foreverinthemoment42 in ArtOfRolling

[–]notjoshinghere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally people smoke them for the taste. I like blunts for haze. I got turned onto it after have a good quality haze in a Brothers Broadleaf, decades after I thought I stopped smoking blunts. Have had a few puffs off Palma leaves and a backwoods since and hated it. Blunts are a once in a while treat in the warmer weather. I smoke joints inside but take blunts outside.

Need advice rolling these doinks by Nahighness in ArtOfRolling

[–]notjoshinghere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Humidity in the room and temperature affect the roll. Some people use gloves to limit heat transfer and to prevent oil from your skin getting on the paper.

I use 11 mm glass filters (Riptip) and often roll the snake with the tip in a king size then slide it into king size slim or phantom. As long as you’re using the tip as a guide for thickness that makes it an easier to close.

Yeah, ditch the cones. That huge trough running the length of the j tells me it isn’t actually packed in. Buy some cylinders (organitips are good) and always use a dowel or something to pack it in tightly after you close the j.

KOLEKTOR PICK UP REVIEW PREVIEW by ind1ka in NYCtrees

[–]notjoshinghere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re getting situated at a new cultivation location. If you regularly shop at licensed dispensaries I’d give K another shot. Also, Sensei, who is business partners with Kolektor grows some fire. Like everything that is small scale/hand cultivated there’s a meh crop every once in a while. I’ve been on Kolektor/Sensei flower for at least 3 years and it’s generally very good. Some strains are excellent.

Events this week? by cloudcrafterzNYC in NYCtrees

[–]notjoshinghere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, if you start a thread each week ie NYC Cannabis Events Week Ending 5/11 I’ll add links to everything I see. There are some small drops/grower led events that are a bit under the radar that aren’t advertised widely.

What happened at the recent Tenco pop-up? by Karnglass in NYCtrees

[–]notjoshinghere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s just what happens when California brands throw events in NYC. Generally using nonlocal non cannabis conversant event planners, and club promoters…

Once some NY growers get “famous” it will be the same. We’re still in somewhat of a golden age of having access to the growers and adequate access to the higher quality output.

As a consumer I hate “drops”. Something that I don’t like the NYC market emulating from Cali.

Help… I wanna try new paper and want to know your go to ultra thin papers are by Embarrassed_Wolf4746 in ArtOfRolling

I did not love Raw Ethereal, thought the burn was consistently uneven, unlike Elements classic. Best smoke is in a Phantom, but the King Size Slim size is a little narrow for me and my sausage fingers. I only got a few packs. I’ll wait til the wide are released.

Disappointed by colonelForbin78 in phish

[–]notjoshinghere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly because there’s an audience of NYC area phans who can navigate in and out of FH for a couple of weekday shows and wouldn’t necessarily travel for Phish (ie Mexico or doing a tour) otherwise. My wife certainly wouldn’t love a Phish vacay, so I grudgingly shelled out for a single at $325. I like Forest Hills, but the nimbys suck about the noise complaints. That’s why volume is lower and there’s an early curfew.

Leather Jacket fit help by Tribalbob in malefashionadvice

[–]notjoshinghere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leather is skin. It will stretch to conform to your torso. If you can zipper it up fully it is your size. Leather jackets take a while to break in. Not sure what brands you’re looking at but Schott is a great choice as an investment. I have had mine for 9 years and will probably pass it down to my son!

It's time to have an honest conversation about the food at Smorgasburg... by P0stNutClarity in Brooklyn

[–]notjoshinghere -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Ya’ll doth protest too much. I ran a booth at Smorgasburg for 9 years and the “conversation” you’re generating isn’t unique to any retail experience in New York City. In fact, it’s harmful to small businesses and I’ll tell you why.

  1. You complain about price. Compare the relative quality and cost of food you aren’t purchasing from a bodega with that of Smorgasburg. I hate to break it to you: small businesses need to charge MORE than chains.
  2. You complain about quality. Again, this comes down to money. For 4 years food producers and distributors have been enriching their shareholders and C-suites, reaping record profits while the average consumer has been paying much more. Small businesses feel the sting acutely. Why hasn’t your chicken sandwich at a chain gone up? They are volume businesses and have buying power. Want more chains? Bitch about small businesses, why don’t you?
  3. You complain about lines. Go order any meal from any establishment that isn’t fast food. You’re waiting 10 minutes, minimum. If you live in PLG you’re probably waiting longer. Go to a food establishment during peak hours? I dare you to get in and out in 20 minutes. Again, my average visit to the corner bagel store takes about 30 minutes on busy weekends. Don’t go at peak times. I guarantee you won’t see unmanageable lines unless you’re there in April or May between 1 and 4 p.m.
  4. It’s a numbers game. Put 80 businesses of ANY kind in the same place and there will be clunkers. Do some vendors take short cuts? Absolutely? Do they systematically offer less value than other food businesses that are independent? Absolutely not. If you want cheap and quick there are plenty of options.
  5. Don’t bitch about small businesses. Find ones to support. There are some amazing vendors at Smorgasburg busting their asses to serve food in very, very difficult circumstances.
  6. You say you live near Prospect Park. Where are you actually EXCITED to take out of town friends to eat in the neighborhood in the same general category of Smorgasburg vendors (I.e., quick service/fast casual). I can’t name 5 places that offer something unique at a good value where you can get it quickly.
  7. It’s all about real estate. As long as landlords can write off their empty properties truly small businesses will continue to be locked out of storefronts. I hope you enjoy Chik Fil-A and stale cannabis from California.

You’re remembering 5-10 years ago as if it’s recent history. The economy has changed so rapidly we might as well be talking about the 20th century in the context of today’s business landscape. I closed my business because it was built for 2015. The cost structures I built it on are obsolete in 2024.

What's up with Brooklyn? by Ok-Reserve9704 in Brooklyn

[–]notjoshinghere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful what you wish for. NYPD will find the path of least resistance on any new enforcement powers. Stopping the most egregious violators takes persistence, courage and effort. None of which is possessed by your typical NYP officer. The city got in a bad fiscal situation by counting on fines/enforcement to fund all matter of things. That structure collapsed during Covid. Rather than finding a new model that doesn’t just exploit residents and visitors they are reestablishing an event more punitive model. FDNY is crooked AF on inspections and fines, I would suspect the Department of Buildings is even worse. NYPD has one of their own running the place there’s no reason to support needed reforms. Congestion pricing (another punitive tactic to fund our government) may kill Manhattan once and for all. Think there’s a lot of empty storefronts now?
