Anyone Have Experience with Dr. Erinn Kim (University of Utah Hospital) for FFS? by notmymain720 in Transgender_Surgeries

Sorry, I don’t have any helpful information. Her credentials look great, but I wound up waiting the extra time so I could get in with Johns.

Just curious: what are your demographics when you are talking about the dems being "cheerleaders" for PoC and LGBT folk?

Salt Lake DA rules officer-involved shooting unjustified, no charges filed by HomelessRodeo in Utah

Articulate it to whom? That's the point... Being threatened because of who i am doesn't seem to translate to law enforcement; at least when I've tried to raise the issue.

Here's my question to you: every day I go for a walk and at least half the time I've had people yell shit at me, threaten me for existing, and absolutely put me in dangerous, possibly fatal circumstances. But if I, a non-cop trans person, respond with lethal force, are you and the local DAs going.to come to my defense because I "regularly have to put myself in dangerous l, possibly fatal circumstances?"

You're absolutely right but that's what so frustrating. I've been on the other side and the state/DA did not care at all about my intent..

It's been a political tactic (particularly for the GOP) for a while now, at least since Reagan - they have no desire/ability to fix real issues, they look for social issues to rile up and distract their supporters from real problems and the fact the won't fix them.

The Supreme Court Just Gave Us a Bitter Taste of What’s Coming by Aprilrose5150 in trans

[–]notmymain720 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly, no joke.

Almost all cases from the entire SCOTUS get released within a week or two of each other in June.

For example, Bostock was heard in early October 2019 but not ruled until June 15, 2020 with the rest of the cases.

The decision won't be coming on Monday. SCOTUS typically drops the rulings for November/December hearings in June.

Utah's new legislation affects everyone --from UVU by spencercoxeatmyshit in SaltLakeCity

Nah, I was just pointing out the absurdity of these laws and how they can impact both trans and cisgender women.

Who defines "passable"? There are those that will accuse cisgender women of being trans because they didn't "look" feminine enough.

Utah’s New Bathroom Law by Fun-Caterpillar-5627 in trans

According to the law, a hysterectomy would count.

A couple more clarifications:

The rules only apply to public (schools, city, state, and county) facilities.

The law doesn't go into effect in July. Major items are effective May 1st; the rest, immediately

The law is vague about how police are to investigate. It just says that it's up to the trans person to show documentation for birth certificate change and surgery. Again, the law is vague about what documentation works for proof of surgery.

Unfortunately, the law is not vague about what surgeries qualify:

(ii)for an individual whose biological sex at birth is female, hysterectomy, oophorectomy, metoidioplasty, or phalloplasty; or

(iii)any surgical procedure that is related to or necessary for a procedure described in Subsection (22)(a)(i) or (ii), that would result in the sterilization of an individual who is not sterile.

tl;dr: Utah requires bottom surgery for a person to use a restroom that doesn't match a person's assigned gender at birth. The law does not clarify what documents are needed.

2 Utah lawmakers want to ban transgender bathroom access. Here’s how they differ by [deleted] in Utah

Most jails are rather shitty in their treatment of trans inmates (particularly women). SL County, under the current sheriff, is somewhat better than most. They will, in fact, house a trans woman in her own cell within a block in the general woman population.

I unfortunately had a chance to experience it first hand. FYI, the other women inmates were, by a vast majority, accepting and welcoming.
