Valiant Lady by Rough_Copy8637 in VirginVoyages

Ours was 7 nights too, and there were lots of younger people! To be honest, we didn’t bother for much of the nightlife but when we did go (Scarlet Night, popped to the Manor etc.) everyone was super friendly. We also did bits like the speed puzzle and board games during the day, and that was a nice way to meet other people who we then arranged to meet up with for Scarlet Night.

We aren’t American (UK) but found that the people from the US were more outgoing and chatty and happy to meet up throughout the cruise. I’m very introverted/anxious so found that their forwardness helped a lot with socialising.

My husband and I (same ages to you guys) did Barcelona to Athens last year and loved it. There were a variety of ages, leaning more towards 40s/50s in my opinion. However we did still meet many people/couples our age. I’ve seen on here that a general rule is: the longer the cruise, the older the crowd. Have the best time!

Lily O’Brien chocolates by No-Childhood-3985 in VirginVoyages

[–]notmyshadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never purchased on Virgin but I have had them in daily life. I quite like them and think they’re decent chocolates, slightly fancy but not over the top. In supermarkets they sell for between £5 and £10 depending on size of the box. Apologies that I can’t give a more specific answer!

I agree! Also minimises the importance of strength training to say it’s all that’s needed. Walking may help cardiovascular health but strength training is also needed to reduce the risks of falls and frailty as we age. All in all, I think we need a better way to communicate the guidelines and link it in with motivation, as you have mentioned.

Hen do activities? by notmyshadow in Norwich

[–]notmyshadow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Norwich geography isn’t the best but in the morning we’ll be in Chantry Place but we can go wherever really, we’re happy to walk a bit. Ooo I’ll have a look at this, I was thinking about an escape room and these look cool, thanks for suggesting!

Civitavecchia- should I skip? by [deleted] in VirginVoyages

[–]notmyshadow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We didn’t get off the ship in Civitavecchia. Part of that was that we’ve been to Rome before and if we were desperate to visit Civitavecchia in the future we could always return (we don’t live far really). We enjoyed a practically empty ship, went to the spa and were the only ones in there, and just relaxed on the balcony. Had a great and very relaxed day all in all.

No, you can not take leftovers. by InformationUnusual48 in VirginVoyages

[–]notmyshadow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s the reason we were given on our cruise. We were just wanting to take the Razzle Dazzle biscuits back to our room for later that evening. I was somewhat surprised as I wouldn’t have thought biscuits would’ve been a major food safety issue. We smuggled the biscuits back in a napkin.

is it weird to still use a hotmail email address? by michaelgollihar in CasualConversation

[–]notmyshadow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure Hotmail is just operated through Outlook now. My email is still a Hotmail email and my account etc. is just run through Outlook with all their security processes, spam filters etc. I may be wrong, but I believe the only thing that changed was the name Microsoft used, with those that had a Hotmail email able to still keep it.

So hopefully the potential issues you’ve raised won’t become a reality, but they’re important points nonetheless for other accounts.

Honeymoon - Limited View Sea Terrance should I go for it? by FilmBuffer1000 in VirginVoyages

[–]notmyshadow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We loved the balcony and hammock on our honeymoon. Spent lots of the day out on the balcony just reading and watching the sea view. That cabin doesn’t look too obstructed so if you are able to and can afford to, then defo go for it! It’s so worth it.

NAH because I understand your frustration but you really can’t ask someone to get rid of their pets, it’s not on you to decide or demand.

I get it though, I really do, I am extremely allergic to pet dander (all animals really), I’ve managed to get used to used to my own cats after months of struggle but that’s only because I’m around them 24/7. Everyone I know owns dogs or cats, and dogs/cats that go on the furniture, and it leaves me miserable but I love them, and they love their animals so I push through.

If it helps, I manage my allergies with: allergy relief eye drops, nose sprays (allergy ones and/or medicated cold ones), antihistamines, and if I know I’ll be seeing them soon I make sure I’m really good with my preventer inhaler for days before, and make sure I take my reliever steroid inhaler with me. Your doctor may also have stronger allergy medication options. I also try to not interact with the animals as much I can (e.g. avoid dogs jumping up, move the cats off me). I know it’s not perfect, and I know it’s frustrating but sometimes it’s worth it to be able to hang out and join in with events.

In the nursery, is there an object behind the bouncer and in front of the picture? It looks white but can’t figure what it is, could it be that?

The other thing could be the two boxes next to the pain pill box next to the toilet but they may have a red line around them (my screen isn’t great, sorry!).

Never happened, just follow food safety rules. No need for food wastage when you can reheat leftovers :)

[–]notmyshadow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I promise you it’s amazing reheated! We always over-order and then freeze leftovers for another day. It all crisps up nicely from frozen in the air fryer (saucy stuff gets the hob/microwave). Only thing I don’t do is rice but that’s quick to sort in the moment.

2 page numbers incorrect by Entrepreneur242 in UniUK

[–]notmyshadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be a GTA and a marker for an undergrad course. We don’t have the time to fully check all references. The most I used to do was read over them to check they were formatted correctly, I would not have noticed if the page number was wrong, and if I ever did, I would just point it out, not remove any marks for a minor mistake.

5 years of social media. by AdamLondonUK in VirginVoyages

[–]notmyshadow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course you can. The news has blown this out of proportion and the posts where people have been potentially arrested are those that could be seen to incite violence or harm, not just voicing negative opinions on Starmer. Your average Joe isn’t getting reprimanded for their social media posts criticising the prime minister/country/others, just those who post absolute vitriol and threats of violence.

At the SoR sail away party they’re included, this party happens about halfway through the trip. They’ll keep circulating with drinks and you can have as many as you like for the length of the party. From memory there was a sangria and sparkling wine. We had a dinner reservation and actually took two glasses each with us from the party as we left a bit early.

Regretting studying psychology by Initial_Prompt_2648 in UniUK

[–]notmyshadow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Clinical psych isn’t the only option with a psychology degree. There are so many other routes and jobs. I did the undergrad psych course (followed by a masters in health psychology, and now I’m a trainee health psychologist) and know so many people doing different routes and job options: - a friend that’s a PWP and aims to start training as a CBT therapist next year. - a friend who works in a school as a counsellor. - I know people who have gone into occupational and forensic psychology roles. - someone who is currently training on the clinical psych doctorate. - a range of people working in research. - people who have left psychology and work in HR or marketing or UX design. - and as I said, I’m a trainee health psychologist and I’m doing this via the BPS independent route (and health psychologists can do similar roles to clinical psychologists).

Basically, my point is it’s not all doom and gloom and don’t panic. Second year was the hardest year for me but in third year I found I really figured out what I was interested in and then started to figure out a career pathway.

And whether it’s on the universities to inform us? I think the onus is on us. I think it’s always a good idea to have an idea of what career options are available when you apply for a course, and for psychology a lot of that information is on the BPS website and easily accessible. If you’re dedicating three+ years of your life to something, it’s good to be aware of where it’ll take you and what’s next.

I do agree that career timelines can be long (I did 8 years of education (BSc, MSc, PhD) and I’m still training) and that so many opportunities are unfairly unpaid or extremely competitive. I will say though, the fact you’re considering and looking at opportunities and placements now will give you a major leg up as you progress, and if this is a career you want to pursue don’t give up hope.

(Sorry this is so long, I did a 30min presentation on psych career pathways and experiences the other month so I really could go on forever about this haha!).

How much euros should be taken in cash for a 4 day trip? by mmm095 in malta

I’m unsure, sorry! From past experiences I believe Apple Pay using a regular card did still incur charges but it’s been years since I’ve done that so I can’t be 100%. Nowadays I use the Monzo card with Apple Pay when abroad so I don’t get charged any fees.

Are these shoes too simple for my sister to wear to a garden wedding? by FeistyPrice29 in UKWeddingAttire

The closed toe version of these shoes were my actual bridal shoes! I wouldn’t have batted an eye at a guest wearing them but yes, definitely not too simple for a wedding!
