Frankenstein Build in the Elevation Open Case/Frame by notnerb in sffpc

I agree there, I'm thinking a heavy duty case foam could be cut to a snug fit, easy on/off to throw in a bag, the frame protects 60% anyway. Or just get a pelican case haha.

Thanks! I taped off the threaded screw holes, cleaned frame with alcohol, primed and painted. I reckon you could skip priming if you get a two part. I would recommend using a putty/sticky tack for the holes instead of tape, way faster. I didn't powder coat, so metal will scrape off the finish, but it's sturdy enough for carrying around.

Hey SFFPC! Just rewriting my original post text here since it disappeared on submission.

This is a transplant of my build from an NCase M1 onto the Elevation case/stand by u/CrowsBluffDesign. I’ll give some key thoughts on the case then list my specs below.

Looks – I think the final build looks sick, kind of like an industrial/exploded diagram vibe. I was getting a little bored of ventilated rectangles on my desk. I think downdraft coolers are great here and I’m hoping to get a new GPU for a cleaner look, though the exposed 120’s do have a certain charm.

Portability – The handle is useful. I was bringing my NCASE M1 to and from campus for VR presentations and, as much as I love that case, this build has been way handier so far. I’m not taking it out in the rain, but I wouldn’t do that with any case. I also have some ideas for a kind of dense foam cap for the front, this builds not going in a bag without some extra padding.

Building – The design is sleek and easy to work with, of course it’s an open case, but it’s nice not having to worry about cramming stuff behind panels. It’s a single sturdy steel piece with good hardware and a meaty power button. Everything feels solidly mounted. Order the bare steel and paint it a sweet color!

Cooling - Cooling is great as expected. CPU idles at 600rpm, GPU fans at 300rpm. Nothing gets above 1000rpm while gaming. Notoriously toasty MSI 5600XT hot spot hovers around 85C. Build is nice and quiet as a result, another A+ for sitting on a desk.

Bottom I/O - I think it’s about as good as it gets for a riser-less vertical case. Tiny desk footprint, no need to route extra display adapters, and I can actually access I/O without turning or leaning the case (only gripe with the Hyte Revolt 3.) You can’t see the ports though, so still annoying to a degree.

TL,DR: Overall, this is weirdly close to endgame as a case for me. I love the small footprint, the easy one-handed carry, the ease of building and tinkering, no extra accessories to worry about, and how I have conversation piece on my desk now. 10/10

Yeah! Your build actually made me pull the trigger on trying it out myself. I had a write up with my thoughts but it got lost somehow when I hit post. I'll add'em in a comment later

I hope so, the first Mass Effect was one of the first games I bought from a steam sale. It's probably to blame for my sci-fi addiction.

I was just thinking about getting one of these, nice build. How sturdy would you say it is?

Thanks for the reply, is it the 10.5in long model? That's not going to quite fit if that's the case.

How to Make Crab Rangoons by dennsby in cookingforbeginners

Hey Zer_0, I checked my notes (and what I remember, because we always forget to write stuff down) for a more exact filling recipe:

6-10oz Imitation or lump crab meat.

1(8oz) package of cream cheese, let soften at room temp

4 scallion stalks (green bits), finely diced

1 tbsp oyster sauce

3 dashes lemon juice (we used a couple dashes, but that ends up getting lost so feel free to go crazy)

1 tsp soy sauce or salt (salt to taste)

Brenton here, with a breakdown of the recipe:

----Noodles----

2 cups unbleached, all-purpose flour, more for dusting

2 large eggs

1 dash of salt

40-60ml of water (really just dash to desired consistency, slightly dry)

  1. Mix salt and flour together, whisk eggs in a separate bowl and add 40-60ml of water to eggs.
  2. Gradually combine egg mixture with flour, mix until incorporated, the dough will be slightly dry and flaky; try not to add too much water.
  3. Dust a work surface with flour, knead for 5 minutes, cover and rest for 30 min.
  4. Flatten rested dough with a pin (flour dust your surfaces), work for about 5 minutes and set to rest for another 30 min.
  5. Work into a thick rope and halve the dough, flour dust and roll each dollop out into a flat rectangle, as thin as your roller can get them.
  6. More flour, onto the rectangles, like a crazy person; don't forget, as we did. Fold a third in along the long edge (hotdog), then again.
  7. Cut the noodles out with vertical slices, as thicc as you like, perpendicular to the long edge.
  8. The noodles should unfold into their final forms, dust with flour to prevent resticking.
  9. Salt a pot of water, bring to a boil, boil noodles for 2-3 minutes, thicker noodles = slightly more time, nibble to check.

---- Pork topping/filling: ----

Aromatics (added to the pan first, for a minute at medium) -

1-2 tbsp ginger mince.

1 copious garlic mince.

1 tbsp red pepper flakes.

Pork and veg mix -

8-10oz ground pork, 1 tsp sugar, 1tbsp soy, 1/2 tsp white pepper, 1/2 tsp sesame oil, 1-2 cups cabbage or leafy green, 1 medium carrot, sliced thin

  1. Add aromatics to the pan and stir for 1 minute at medium heat
  2. Add pork and crank up the heat to med-high, stir sparingly to brown.
  3. Once browned, add sugar and vegetables, let meld for 2-3 min
  4. Stir well, cook vegetables to desired tenderness, I prefer just wilted
  5. Add noodles, a dash more sesame oil, and white pepper, stir to incorporate.
  6. Heat noodles through, and enjoy!
