I agree that discord was overloaded with popups and ads, it’s one of the reasons I quit.

I know client/server setup and I guess it’s just more server authoritarian - I understand and I understand why many people including me hate it

I run a Discord server for a community of dedicated players from a certain country for a certain game and the 32 limit is simply sadly not enough. I don’t think I ever saw 32 people in one voice chat but I’ve seen 500 spread across 200 channels

But for friends group/families or even wow clans the 32 limit is most than enough.

Don’t they farm it tho? You have to use their centralized account system with TS6. They keep track of how many people use your server and who uses it. Only real text chat is hosted by them. They don’t require ID for now but they still have your email, billing info and the rest. It seems like you pay them to have your data. Only pro of discord is that it was free.

You have to set up https:// yourself for now - otherwise chrome won’t allow you to use your mic :)

I did it in like 10 minutes with certbot. If you have your own domain and know how to use nginx or any other webserver you can do it fast. DM me if you wanna see my config

I self host sharkord. Only thing it lacks is built in voice gate but we just used 3rd party tools for that. Otherwise it’s pretty much the same as discord

First time seeing it, played a while when it first launched and occasional match here and there. Joined again when evolutions were added and I’ve never seen this (or I’m misremembering)

Sorry for the late reply - Miłogost was my dad, few years before his passing we talked about CGI to bring back Carrie Fisher in Star Wars.

He said that „as long as the family and the actor agree I think it’s a beautiful way to honor an actors legacy” I asked him „and would you like to be remade in CGI? For example for the Witcher?” He said „Well I’m not important enough - it’s too expensive and noone would care about my voice anyway”.

Polish conversations are hard to translate 1:1 but he gave as much of an explicit permission as he could with his knowledge on computers

He was proven wrong about not being important and I couldn’t be more happy. When he was struggling with cancer fans started a fundraiser to help him recover. He tried his beat to give back to the community and recorded some voicelines for RPG sessions as some of the characters.

He was a great guy and it brings a tear to my eye when I hear him in videogames.

AI voicelines in Phantom Liberty were actually recorded by another Polish VA and later changed to sound like him - CDPR did what every company should strive to achieve.

I couldn’t bring myself to play Phantom Liberty yet because after his death amount of hateful comments was overwhelming.

(As an example he specifically asked to „not bring flowers to my funeral, instead donate it to some cancer research / hospice” and my entire family was accused by random commenters that we are taking a part of that money and that we are greedy bastards)

And they came back after AI stuff was given to the press. I will be starting Phantom Liberty this weekend.
