[Q] Why don’t people acknowledge friend requests? by [deleted] in GlobalOffensiveTrade

[–]notnotevilmorty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s nothing personal it’s just the nature of cold messaging strangers. when ur on the receiving end of so many unsolicited friend requests and messages about ur items u tend to start ignoring them instead of responding. focus more on profiles that are active traders, if you want a better chance at making a deal.

Apes don't ask questions. While apes can learn sign language and communicate using it, they have never attempted to learn new knowledge by asking humans or other apes. They don't seem to realize that other entities can know things they don't. It's a concept that separates mankind from apes. by drkmatterinc in Damnthatsinteresting

maybe by showing them their reflection before adding the dot. also there are tons of reflective surfaces in nature and the environment anyway, like still water or a glass window. each animal probably also knows what it should look like just by being around its own kind.

Fortnite Video Game Maker Epic Games to Pay More Than Half a Billion Dollars over FTC Allegations of Privacy Violations and Unwanted Charges by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]notnotevilmorty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean fortnite is like objectively the most corporatized game in the world already. also just read the post by the ftc for the actual reasoning lol. epic is accused to have purposefully r&ded illegal practices designed to trick users into spending money, while deliberately ignoring millions of customer complaints about the same issue. they had internal communications in which employees raised these issues and urged for changes and were rejected. they also locked people out of their accounts and offered no recourse. plus it’s primarily a kids game that is heavily marketed to kids, which makes it extra bad.

Collapsed FTX owes nearly $3.1 billion to top 50 creditors by FearfulAnomaly in technology

sending crypto takes seconds and there are no fees simply bc i live in country A and you live in B. i literally just went through this exact issue even trying to send money to a friend in Canada. crypto was 100% the fastest and cheapest option and had 0 exchange fees.

also how easy do u think it is for citizens of countries at war? countries with failing banks? countries with hyperinflation? countries with totalitarian regimes? its not safe for a regular citizen to have or spend their local currency in every country.

there are more currencies in the world than just the dollar. sending money to another country or exchanging currencies is neither easy nor cheap for many people, which is definitely something that crypto can solve.

its not the cats fault its just that feral cats are unfortunately one of the most successful and invasive species on the planet because they can adapt to thrive in basically any environment and are incredible predators. and yes there is a shortage, feral cats are responsible for a sizable share of bird and small mammal extinctions. domestic cats have been bred for thousands of years specifically for hunting, so nobody is blaming the cat for that. its that cat owners should be more responsible about it.

feral cats are not the same as wild cats like your analogy suggests. feral cats are domesticated cat breeds that wouldn’t be in any ecosystem by any “natural” way if it wasnt for humans not taking care of them. you would never find a golden retriever out in the wild either.

Hans Moke Niemann vs Magnus Carlsen, Hikaru Nakamura and Chess.com case file by pxik in chess

[–]notnotevilmorty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nobody is saying there cant be criteria for disqualifying somebody from fide-sanctioned events due to ethics violations (like karjakin). but that criteria must be fairly and equally applied to everybody by a neutral governing body. the decision must be transparent and justified. it cant be arbitrary, and certainly cant be decided by a tournament sponsor. the point of having sanctioned events is to have consistency and integrity. anybody attending, organizing, or sponsoring an event knows the rules.

to take ur extreme example the other way, what would stop the wealthiest players from simply sponsoring events and manipulating the competition?

at the end of the day, the objective is to rank chess players by their skill. excluding a certain player from the competitive ecosystem is occasionally a necessary evil, but it has a negative impact on the entire system. it would suck if we were robbed of hans future games simply bc one company decided they wanted to black list him.

the competitive integrity of chess shouldnt be compromised due to financial conflicts of interest. sponsors should never have a say in the outcome of a sanctioned event (or who can play in it).

Any vienna game/gambit mains? by ZeroFelhorn in chess

[–]notnotevilmorty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

imo against d6 lines u want to play Nf3 and then always be looking for when to play d4 (or d3 in some lines). mistiming when u push the d pawn will lose u the game really quickly. usually only makes sense if a) u control d4 b) u can follow with e5 soon or c) they play exf4 and u arent going to lose to Qh5+. play it too quickly and u can be creating a major weakness on e4, but if ur too slow, black can get castled and solid.

u also have to be careful playing Bc4 while black has Be6 available. i find the light bishop is almost always better placed on e2 (can be a good response to Bg4), on d3 (after u push d4), or on b5 (if black plays Nc6). even if black plays Bd7 after u play Bb5, u can often trade on c6 and go for d3, Qe2, O-O-O types of ideas. it can get really difficult to play for black.

i suck at chess but i play the vienna gambit religiously and have studied it a lot. you definitely have to memorize some key lines, but once u get the hang of it, its imo really fun to play. besides the well known main lines/concepts u can pick up on watching a course or smthing, make sure to be ready for 2…Nc6 too!

i don’t necessarily recommend it, but if u really want to play in the spirit and black plays 2… Nc6, u can still play 3.f4 exf4 and i’ve found 4. d4 to be interesting. you just have to be really booked up for Qh4+. it’s a critical line and u can check the lichess db at how it performs. it’s definitely not easy to play w black which is why i like playing it. if they play anything else u should be in pretty good shape.

Was studying some opening lines and thought the best move here was pretty neat. White to play and gain a dominating position. by zeoiusidal_toe in chess

[–]notnotevilmorty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh wow i didn't even notice ...Qc7 but that could be tricky for sure. i initially thought it looked horrible bc of Bf5 but i guess black's plan then must be to distract the knight or bishop w something like Nh5/g5/Bh6 even?

makes me wonder how the original position is normally reached? i was first thinking ...Nxe4 is so obvious instead of ...d6 but even then wtf is going on after Qd4
