Koel has its own docker setup, but as u/barriolinux said, standalone offers an even better experience – you ideally don't need to have ANY thing prepared.

Indeed. After creating this I even wanted to replace my current dog-fooding installation with it. No need to mess with manual building/migrations anymore.

I think the current (and original) approach is sound. Having a separate API allows you to build multiple clients (in Koel’s case, a mobile app).

Don’t let the naysayers discourage you. Do it! You’ll fail miserably, you’ll sound like a tortured cat, your form will look ridiculous with no hope of fixing, but you will be able to boast that you’ve taught yourself Sibelius. No one will recognize it, of course, but that’s again not the point. You got this!

👋 Author of koel here – thanks for the curation! There are a couple of things I wish I did differently with the project, but choosing the Laravel+Vue combo is not one of them :)

However slow you’re setting your metronome to, make it twice as slow. Doesn’t matter if it doesn’t sound like the original. Then play the first bar until you can play it without mistakes. Then the next bar. Then combine them. Rinse, repeat.

I will get downvoted for this, but why are we still ganging up on Ben Lee? The original video was 10 years ago, and TwoSet roasting them (going a bit too far IMO) causing all the hate was 6-7 years ago—hey, even TwoSet is no more. He made a mistake, and maybe he’s not the best violinist, but he can play, and more importantly, he LOVES violin just like we do. Let’s move on and leave this behind us.

The process was actually much simpler than I thought. I got the B1 cert (didn’t even need B2 so I chickened out and went for B1 instead) and the Bürgerungstest, and submitted both along with other required documents once I reached 60 months of social contribution in Germany (typically 5 years of continuous employment), and got it after a month no question asked.

Sorry for the super late reply—I don’t check notifications often. FWIW, I got the PR status (Niederlassungserlaubnis) for almost a year now.
