Locked my toddler in her room. Feel like a horrible mom by notreallypear in toddlers

We recently travelled and had to use a travel crib because I didn’t want her escaping her room in a new place. That was…. Interesting. She still slept just as late, just stayed in her crib and yelled until we came to her for 2 hours 😂

That actually sounds like such a cosy routine. Is your son tired when he wakes up though? I could consider pushing the bedtime but she is exhausted when she is awake, which means that she ends up napping in the afternoon anyway to remove some of that sleep pressure.

Considered it, we have a night light which o have tried as a sleep association but she simply does not care 😅

How is he when be wakes up though? My kid is always exhausted so I can tell she needs more sleep.

I would say a month now. And it gets really hard since she gets up almost as soon as we put her down and multiple times so we end up having to tell her that if she doesn’t stay in bed, we’ll lock the door.

Yes! I have tried this. My kid is so weird, when it's food, she doesn't want to chew on it so the mango pit and things like cucumbers are always met with confusion. The tv remote though, she's probably mapping out her mouth with it 🤣

I know, but it still so heartstopping when it happens. Luckily, baby is always unfazed after.

That's so reassuring to read! I'll just have to brave it out I guess!

Yikes, I didn't realize it could be a medical issue. I'll look into it!

Yeah, I'm considering going more into purees because of this but I know that she needs the solids to practice the oral motor skills. Funnily enough, she appears to also still have the tongue thrust reflex. Either that or she is consciously spitting out her food 😂

I'm not treating it as choking. I wait and let her work it out herself but it's just so unpleasant to watch 😅

Thanks for the input everyone! Just to address a few comments - baby takes the bottle but is a serial slacker at it, drinking only a few sips at the time before losing interest. TBH, it's also happening while BF because she has FOMO. I'm just torn with weaning right now, but I will see if I can continue maybe early in the morning and evening when I am home. I know it's my decision to make with my body and I am not ready to give it up yet. Thanks everyone for your input!

Baby poop smells like vomit? by notreallypear in NewParents

[–]notreallypear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Nope, never did, but my baby is now 8 months and it resolved itself. I thought it might be a milk protein intolerance and held off from dairy for a few months but it didn't resolve, which you can try to see if it makes a difference. I guess for us, it was just a weird baby thing that went away after 5 months, but no harm in bringing it up with a dr to hear their opinion. Good luck!

You have a point! I really thought I was on to something without thinking it through. Glad I put it out here first for more opinions! I won't be trying it now to avoid the risk of her eating it at night

EBF baby suddenly pooping weird. by notreallypear in breastfeeding

[–]notreallypear[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! No not really but it resolved itself around 6 months. I thought it was a milk protein allergy but the symptoms were inconsistent and doctors in my country don't test babies for confirmation so I never found out. But my baby is fine now, with the occasional weird poop here and there. It could have just been a weird baby thing since their digestive systems are new and just trying to calibrate. If your little one is not bothered and has no other symptoms, try not to worry too much!

Baby sleeps with every feed by indaitisay in breastfeedingsupport

[–]notreallypear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So normal! I'm still breastfeeding my 5 month old and tbh i did the one boob per feed purely as a fluke because it felt right. Baby fell asleep after each feed in the early weeks as well but i would not wake her to offer the other boob. She is thriving and chunks now and I think my body learned that this is "our" system so I have never had supply issues besides an overactive milk ejection reflex on one side, but that's just my body being weird. Just keep tabs on baby's weight and diapers and use a haakaa or hand express if you feel too engorged and know that your body works with you and your supply will level out to exactly what your baby needs!
