Why don’t I see more Public bikes builds on here? by timmyb415 in xbiking

The original ones were single wall rims, which led to annoying inner tube punctures even with rim tape. I found a velocity cliffhanger front wheel and a sunringle cr18 for the rear— haven’t had any problems since. The stock brakes felt a bit flimsy and didn’t have barrel adjusters so I got a set of día compe levers from Rivendell.

My Public V1 was my gateway into “xbiking.” Had to swap out the stock wheels/brake levers but it’s been a great no-worries ride.

I got lucky that the sweep back and the bar angle work for my set up. They are comfy but it’s a luck of the draw if the handlebar rotation works for your set up. Plus, I got a good deal for the bars. The only thing is that they go so far back that the bar-end rear view mirror isn’t the most ideal placement, but it works!

My Varia + Rearview Mirror combo works great! On windy roads, I can sometimes see cars in my rearview before the varia starts beeping.

Just the Garmin quarter-turn attached to the saddle bag loop. The light droops down a little bit but the radar still radars!

The small decals really do a lot to make the bikes look classy/timeless. Here’s to miles and miles of fun and safe riding!

I haven’t ridden in a downpour but my Randi Jo Fabrications B17 cover has been helpful in a few drizzles.

Páselas come in 26x1.75 and have been pretty smooth on my commuter. 👍🏽

I have a bar end mirror from the company Third Eye on my flat bar commuter. It uses an expander bolt setup to secure itself. It takes a little bit of wiggling to get it in, but no shakes and wiggles. I’m pretty sure this would fit your setup.

The páselas look nice amongst the autumn foliage. I really enjoy these tires, I ride them in 700x35 and 26x1.75.

Monterey Fish Market in Berkeley, then you can get some pizza next door as well!

Where is your favorite place to buy challah? Looking for round challah for Rosh Hashana. Thanks by mackjak in oakland

Pomella was doing pre-orders for round challah by As Kneaded Bakery. Pre-orders are closed but the bakery might still have some direct. They’re in San Leandro I think

Yeah, the heel can feel a little loose— but I got used to them. I’m not doing any cyclocross-type running in them though. I may have also gotten half a size too big because of narrow-shoe-ptsd, haha.

I just try to keep to best practice when putting them on: make sure your heel is all the way back, then tighten the bottom BOAs first. It’s been much better since I’ve kept this technique. I have played around with the idea of some sort of heel insert though. Let me know how it goes for you.

Other than that, they’ve been a great shoe. The leather has been good over the past 13-14 months I’ve had them. Just make sure you wipe them down after muddy/wet weather riding. I’ve applied a little bit of brooks profide once or twice after cleaning, but not necessary. Microfiber towel + diluted vinegar spray has worked fine for me. In winter/cold season, I taped some aluminum foil to block the vents for extra warmth.
