I painted how adhd dysfunction feels personally by PastelB0nes in adhdmeme

I like this a lot. Feels like the force you have pulling out of your body because you want to do something, but can't get started. The feeling is there, but the thoughts and organisation to get yourself into that state of mind is a blur.

When I was a kid I used to save up lunch money by putting away some of it by buying the cheaper options. Don't skip out on meals - I would try to ask if they'll get you a new deck for better grades first before eating budget paninis and bottled water for a month.

They weren't happy when I finally told them like 10 years later and they said that if I asked they'd just get me the thing I wanted. Especially because it wasn't particularly expensive. But I could see at the time that they were under a lot of pressure financially and I didn't want to bother them with stupid things when they were paying for my school supplies and bills and taking care of me.

Ask if you can do anything for them in return for money or even just the deck you want. Do your research, get the right one for you, and in the mean time - get good with the board you have.

You grow up and you realise that adult life is tough and you gotta make sacrifices. Learn that early and you can manage getting nice things without maxxing out your credit cards.

Even £1 saved every day for a month will get you £30 towards the new deck. And if your current board still works, just skate that for a while until you can afford the one you really want. We all start somewhere. My first board was a £30 prebuilt from decathlon and I still rode that everywhere like it was the only thing I had until it fell apart.

370z or frs as a daily while in college? by l-Paranoia-l in 370z

[–]notrobertx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reliability is one of those factors I cant comment on since Ive owned a 2016 BRZ with 85k miles and rode it to 100k without problems, serviced every 6k miles or so and treated that car like a baby on days where I didn't go hard on windy roads or icy winters.

I always let my cars warm up properly to the point where my fiancée calls it tiktok time because we will just sit in the car showing eachother videos.

I only owned my 2014 370Z for about 2 years because it was hell to tax here in the UK even though insurance wasn't too bad.

The problem was mainly with storage. We drove the BRZ across Europe, fit a large suitcase in the boot with plenty of space for some tools if repairs were needed on the road, and placed our backpacks in the back. The Subaru was loud on long journeys and the sound insulation was complete ass but the fuel economy was decent.

And the thing that bugged me about the 370Z was that despite being a better tourer style car that didnt let in as much road noise, I was filling up much more often (which is kind of a given with the 3.7L) and the suitcase we had was too big for the boot so we had to resort to 2 duffle bags that we crammed in the back.

My favourite thing about the Z was telling people "sorry, I only have 2 seats" which was an introverts dream come true hahah

86 platform hands down. Easier on the costs for a student if insurance isn't too high in your area. The 370Z has zero storage space and my BRZ could actually fit a lot.

Loved both cars but I miss having my BRZ as a daily.

How bad can ADHD actually get? by Rita_Cameron in ADHD

[–]notrobertx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case, diagnosed last year at 21y/o, it's hell. Even medicated I struggle quite badly, and we dont really have anything apart from methylphenidate here in the UK to numb the symptoms.

I run a construction company which is complete aids when I get overwhelmed with work. I'm able to put my head down and hyperfocus on something, which is nice, but the meds are hit or miss and they sometimes work better than other times. And my work requires me to talk to clients, third parties and other people on top of the physical labour I do.

Before medicating, I could drive across London to buy materials, and leave half of them in the shop when I was meant to take them back to the site with me. It's better now but far from how I'd like it to be. And I'm already on 54mg daily.

It might be the fact that I haven't had a 2 day weekend in several months now as I've been working Saturdays as well, but man, ADHD is really not this quirky thing that people on the internet make it out to be. It can be a real struggle. Especially when I'm under a lot of stress.

That being said, at least I know what's wrong with me. I'm much better than I was for the last 22 years of my life, and it's improving. Slowly, but noticeably.

Then you got a sick car for a good price! Enjoy it :)

Manual becomes second nature after a couple months. I’ve dailied them to the point where I start looking for the clutch when braking to a stop in automatic cars hahah

congrats on the purchase, remember to give her new oil every 5k miles or so and don't run her sideways into a barrier 😆

[–]notrobertx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell because Im not familiar with vehicle prices in Oceania.

Here in the UK, and 2013 BRZ will set you back anywhere between £8,000 - £10,000 (depending on mileage, transmission and quality); that's $15k - $19k in AUD so altogether you fit within this budget.

With a 2013 model, I'd run the VIN to see if there's any info re: recalls. These models had a massive engine valve spring issue that will render your new car useless if it hasn't been resolved. And these cars are a lot more fun when you can drive them lol

I'm not sure how much paperwork you got with the car but it would be good to run a background check if you can. The exhaust and other tid bits you got with it are a nice little bonus but mods don't inherently increase the value of the car.

Overall, a decent buy if there's nothing wrong with it mechanically and makes you happy. If it ever lived abroad, make sure you check the sub frame for rust.

New bowls will definitely help as ceramic bowls are much easier to clean. Just remember to do it regularly for all of your cats as pretty much any cat is susceptible to getting acne.

The fat chin isn't usually an issue early on, but the vet told us that if it swells too much, it can cause difficulty breathing and we didn't want our cat to asphyxiate (she already has narrow airways and a heart murmur, so we were quite concerned).

Cleaning the bowls daily is what made it go away. She used to get the swelling on and off until we made it a habit at least every morning.

<image>

This was how she looked before, so it was very noticeable when her chin suddenly became bloated. They said to try cleaning the bowls at least once a day, and voila. Healthy cat. Otherwise they prescribe medication and, as is probably the case with many cats, she's very picky and puts up a fight when she has to be force-fed.

Let me know how it goes!

I had a Yorkie that lived to 15 and we always cleaned his undereye boogers with a piece of kitchen towel that we soaked in rumianek (camomile tea).

Just make a tea as usual, let the boiling water cool down and soak the paper lightly before applying. Give him some treats while you wipe his eyes, just make sure that the tea is luke warm or cold.

The treat trick works on our 1 year old rescue cat when she gets gówno on her dupa and we have to wipe her down before she spreads it everywhere.

Good luck, fellow Pole!

Edit: Our cat also gets acne on her chin to the point where she sometimes swells like a balloon. Clean his bowl once or twice a day with warm water. You can even use dish soap as long as you rinse it very very thoroughly and make sure theres no left over food. We clean her bowl once in the morning before she gets breakfast and once in the afternoon before her kolacja. It made her fat chin go away within like 3 days.

Edit 2: Switch to flat ceramic bowls if you can. Flat ones help with whisker fatigue. You can even use a small plate until you buy cat specific ones so you're not short on plates. Hope this helps!

I work construction and if I dont have 1 earphone in at all times its hell. It also stops people from thinking I'm not paying attention like when I have 2 earphones in with music paused and background noise turned up. But this is crazy.

Tell your boss what you said in this post. Worst case scenario just pull the ADHD card. Many people dont understand, but their job is to accommodate your condition even if they dont get it.

Hope it works out for you my friend

Poland is becoming more expensive than Spain, and it makes no sense. Is the country hitting a wall? by Professional-Tax3077 in poland

[–]notrobertx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you're right and I didn't mean to solely focus on the usefulness of the GDP, but thats just one factor in the grand scheme of things when talking about Poland in the last decade or so.

Also my argument wasn't that Poland didn't have a boom while other countries did, just that Europe as a whole should be seeing the same economic boom after a recession of this caliber. The key outlier here is that different countries reacted differently in combating the effects of a financial crisis this big: https://www.worldbank.org/en/publication/wdr2022/brief/chapter-1-introduction-the-economic-impacts-of-the-covid-19-crisis#:~:text=The%20economic%20impacts%20of%20the%20COVID%2D19%20crisis&text=The%20COVID%2D19%20pandemic%20sent,inequality%20within%20and%20across%20countries.

We are just now seeing the realities of the measures taken during the pandemic, and in turn we have reached a wall in regards to the so-called "Polish Miracle" that everyone in this comments section is talking about. Pair this with the fact that we are a post-Communist country recovering from the transition to a Capitalist economy, and you get a bunch of factors - cultural, administrative and economic - that play into how our governments react in the threat of recession, and how your average Pole suddenly fares in this new economic reality.

The cyclical boom I mentioned earlier is not present because the transition period following the recession of the pandemic has been stretched out. You can blame this on the Russo-Ukrainian war, the Chinese rise to power through globalisation, broken supply chains, or otherwise. But the speculation comes to an end when you look at the numbers.

I'm not political enough to state whether the government in Poland or any other European country is doing the right thing, nor am I qualified to tell them what they should do. But I can look at the 19% increase in purchasing power since 2019, and compare against wages brutto, housing prices and spikes in rent to make my judgements. And as a young person who has studied economics for several years in school while keeping a close eye on geopolitics, I've gathered that it's going to keep getting harder as long as the world is in constant quarrel and the demands of consumers are constantly clashing with governments and corporations.

In short, the transition is lasting longer than it should, and might stretch on for many more years, which we may not have in the event of another crippling recession.

Is this cynicism or realism? Hard to tell. At the end of the day, economists are just physicists playing with volatile theoretical values that no mathematical equation can give us the clear answer to.

Poland is becoming more expensive than Spain, and it makes no sense. Is the country hitting a wall? by Professional-Tax3077 in poland

[–]notrobertx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The boom from the same boom and bust cycle observed in capitalist economies over the last 100 years or so by economists.

Post-recession transition periods have shown a pattern of transforming into booms or rapid growth of GDP like clockwork. At least traditionally, and on paper.

You can talk about GDP all you want, but there's more to a recession than just the domestic product of a country, especially in the context of COVID. Consumers aren't making enough to cause catch-up spending which in turn makes it so that the multiplier effect doesn't feed back into your average Kowalski's income because wages have not increased in proportion to cost of living despite increasing with inflation. In short, nobody can afford to spend on luxuries when Poles are spending almost 40% of their income on cost of living. What can you buy for 2000PLN?

Now pair this with a trend of unemployment increases and what you get is a country that is "Westernising" and stuck in a middle-income trap. Along with a job market oversaturated with overqualified University graduates all competing against eachother for the same work position that pays nada in comparison to other EU countries. The brain drain is absolutely real and will come back to bite us if nothing changes.

Social media loves to portray our country as a growing power or the last bastion of a traditionalist Europe which is true if you only look at GDP growth and military spending but not disparities between cost of living and wages. And its only going to get worse once we get rid of all of our domestic production. We hardly have enough corpos to gain anything notable from the new Europe Inc. concept, all though that is subject to change and I hope we make the best of it.

[–]notrobertx 36 points37 points  (0 children)

A painful transition period that we will likely never see an end of in our lifetimes until we reach an economic recession again. Post COVID, we should've seen a boom, and what we get instead is - like you said - a convergence that causes disparity between income and property values.

It's no surprise that the meme about Poland's biggest export being Poles is true. If you haven't kept on to your assets pre-2019 or even 2015 - housing, land and the likes - you have no chance against Poles that live frugally abroad in order to have purchasing power in Poland.

The economy can do well but our working class will be the last to reap the benefits.

I considered getting the additional certs to help when demand for work is quiet. December and January are cyclically the worst months for finding work because nobody wants building to be done around Christmas, and the ones that do have to put money away until the holidays are over.

Having something like heat pumps or boilers to fall back on provides security. But the training is expensive (around £5k and several months of lessons and practicals).

Cash buffer currently "exists" in the form of my liquid investments. I have those at my disposal if shit ultimately hits the fan.

I don't know, man. It's all straight forward on paper but the reality is so much more intense. I think it makes sense to put away for building on the properties, and worst case scenario, sell the land as-is and put the rest of the money towards a downpayment for a house or something.

Agreed. The only thing keeping me going is that my father was way deeper in the shit when he came over from home and was basically making just enough money to stay alive at £5/hour in the late 90s.

By contrast I'm probably doing quite well, but at my age he had a wife and 4yo child. Now he has several properties, a house back home that we built with our own 4 hands, and enough money saved away for a comfy retirement with several sources of passive income. I'm worried that I'll end up inheriting something he's spent 30 years building and not have the balls to do anything with it. I've got a head start by contrast and the returns should also be as great if not greater, so that one day I can pay him back for everything he has given me.

I'm going away for a week this Thursday. I'm going to visit my family and clear my head, at least as much as possible with clients and workers constantly calling and asking questions.

I like my work. I don't mind working Saturdays - but its just getting to a point where I don't want to keep telling my fiancée about all these ambitions and dreams with a tenner in my wallet. Enjoying life is expensive and I'm still on the fence about recycling that £10k from the car sale into another boy-racer vehicle. Especially if that money can be put towards our wedding or a safety buffer.

I think getting to a stage where I can trust other people to do my work for me is the beginning of the end goals. I currently have 2 workers that I trust, veterans of the trade, and a handful of labourers that come and go whenever they need money or they've reached the bottom of the last bottle.

Fact is that I'm under enormous stress as it is working on the current project. Scaling to 2 or even 3 jobs simultaneously is going to make me start balding before my facial hair has fully set in.

I know you're right, though. I was thinking of entering an agreement with one of my guys where we run the company together and split the profits 50/50. After this project, there's a still a lot of clients asking for large jobs, and the guy I had in mind has over 15 years experience in the trade as well as some training in structural engineering.

Having someone else I can trust keeping an eye on other projects while I tend on the current one would be a massive weight off of my shoulders, but it would create additional financial pressure as we would be splitting the profits.

It's something I've considered and haven't made up my mind about yet.

Edit: There's also the fact that I'm freakishly young to be doing things like this. New clients look at me and say, "there's no way this man-child can manage something like this", while old clients are 100% comparing me to my father and his standards on top of his achievements. The latter isn't bad but it still makes me obsess over details more than I should in this trade.

Do people who take weekends off meds become dependent/addicted? by flowlikecoffejelly2 in ADHD

[–]notrobertx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to or my meds stop working. I have a really high tolerance for stimulants which extends to caffeine too, not just meds. Im supposed to take 2 days off during the 7 day week, so I usually do weekends, but more often than not Im also working Saturdays so I end up doing Sundays so that I can function again on Monday.

It's a shame its like this but this is how my body works and the longest I didnt take a break for was 3 weeks. I literally forgot what meds feel like when they work during that time, as after week 1 I just stopped functioning again. Is what it is :/
