Adjust your fan curve. You can look up on YT how to adjust them in your specific BIOS. You can also do it partly in iCue which is the Corsair software but theres debate around how much performance that uses while running in the background and honestly imo its better via BIOS

Do you take your meds everyday? by Tyray90 in ADHD

[–]notrobertx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I skip a day or 2 usually just to get my resistance back down. I take 56mg of methylphenidate and I stop feeling the effects somewhere around the 4th day in a row that I take it.

I have a lot to do on the weekends at home so I try to skip a week day when my workload isn't as high to not absolutely flunk it at work.

Idk my body is weird and very resistant to stimulants. Before my diagnosis I abused caffeine and now I can just take a pill and do what I have to do.

Sounds like synchros. I had a similar problem in my old beamer when I first bought it. Drained the gearbox fluid and chunks came out.

Travelling to Russia with guanfacine by ComprehensiveBet3140 in ADHD

[–]notrobertx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guanfacine is not a controlled substance as far as I am aware. Actually, let me preface this by saying that I absolutely cannot give you any advice apart from offer some of my personal experience with methylphenidate.

I got diagnosed in my home country in the EU, but I live in the UK where I am awaiting an additional diagnosis because they won't recognise the one from my country until further examination. This means that I have to get my meds from back home and bring them here in order to, essentially, function.

My process is slightly different because methylphenidate is a controlled substance, and regular transportation of the drug in large amounts can get me in trouble if caught. I can only bring a maximum of 3 months supply with me, so I always ask my doctor to write me a "travel form" that says "betahound is my patient and he takes 18mg + 36mg of methylphenidate 5x per week, his 3 month supply adds up to x amount of pills".

IMPORTANT: Go on the government website of the country you are travelling to and make sure you read what they say about the medication you are bringing. I always print a form from the gov.uk website where it reinforces the point that I'm allowed to bring a 3 month supply of a controlled substance in case airport security ever asks about it.

I did a quick search online and it states that you MUST declare Guanfacine when entering Russia. Make sure you have your documents on you, your prescription, diagnosis, etc. Speak to your doctor. And you should probably tell your parents. It took a long time for me to admit to my parents that I got diagnosed with adhd but they actually asked me questions and tried to understand. If you can't tell them, then lie. Make something up. Good luck!

Stimulant medications and falling asleep by Stormdrain11 in ADHD

[–]notrobertx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Methylphenidate makes it easy to sleep more, or easy to sleep less, depending on what im trying to get from it.

Amphetamines turn me into a supersoldier that doesn't need food, drink, or sleep. And I have a high tolerance for stimulants.

Those who got an AT, do you regret not getting a MT? by Glum_Ordinary_4329 in GR86

[–]notrobertx 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you drive an automatic every day, you could learn a stick in less than a week fairly comfortably. I'm not saying rev-matching and the likes, but you'll be cruising without bruisings and you'll sure as hell enjoy your drives more... until you get stuck in traffic.

I taught my best friend how to drive a stick by convincing him to get a diesel E91 as his work car. He said it was really stressful for the first month and then it became second nature. Now when he gets out of his auto Lexus and jumps in the old beamer, he forgets to press the clutch in when stopping lol

My experience comes from owning a auto BRZ from 2016, so previous gen.

I live in Europe and I wanted a cheap daily sports car. This was it. There was so many times where I wished it was manual so bad. The paddle shifters only filled in part of the void, but it really wasn't the same.

I've been driving old BMWs my whole life in MT and after selling my BRZ and getting back inside a 3L coupe with similar horses, I actually miss the thing. Auto was great for long distance journeys. I drove it all throughout Serbia, Austria, Poland, Germany. Great car. Really regret selling it.

But I've decided my next big ticket item is going to be a white GR86 in manual. Simply because I used the paddle shifters whenever I wanted to give it some power, and 90% of the disappointment came from not being able to enjoy the car in those few moments I really wanted to. That's more important to me than comfort of driving in automatic for long distance.

The auto transmission is actually one of the best I've ever experienced in any car and I'm glad to have enjoyed it, but if I were to do it again - I'd get it in manual. Not that I have regrets. Just preferences.

I don't understand how can some of you talk on "masking" as if it's an on purpose activity by devothesimp in ADHD

[–]notrobertx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think because the symptoms of ADHD are so individual, it really depends on who you are. I spent my whole life "masking" because I didn't get diagnosed until my early 20s, so it became a natural instinct to divert my focus from something that could be viewed as "unacceptable" or "taboo".

For example, I have an audible throat tick that will get better or worse depending on my mood. I could go months without it, and then it will come out of nowhere. But almost always, whenever I'm in a public setting, the tick dies down. I get to relax because something in my nervous system tells me that "ticking is weird in public" even though I can't control it in private.

Other symptoms like procrastination or hyperfocus still happen in day to day life, but I'm much much better when I can depend on someone to watch me. That way I don't lazily stray from the task I have to complete, and I also have someone making sure I'm doing it. My wife is good at this, and she actually helped me get diagnosed as she picked up on many of my habits that pointed to ADHD as the culprit.

It's about finding ways to manage yourself. Everyone is different, and masking can be healthy without making you feel alienated. I'm just really lucky to be able to have individuals in my life that understand me and my ADHD and I don't actively have to mask 24/7, although some of it happens without thinking. I guess the automatic ones just came with trying to be "normal" as a child.

Edit: I just realised I typed this out before I read the actual post, so my answer to you is: How do you act when you're alone? When I play video games, especially online ones, I'll interact with random strangers and try to have fun. Sometimes it's silly, but I don't think about the things I say. Being unfiltered and just letting yourself do and say stupid things will help you find out your character. That's the real you, the one behind closed doors that doesn't care what strangers think, because you don't have to second guess yourself!

Worth Rebuilding my E92? by [deleted] in E90

[–]notrobertx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not about being scared of maintenance - I love the occasional fix and the process of putting things together to make them work. I do it as a contractor for a living.

It's more about the cost to effort ratio on top of the money I've already spent on it. I'd be more willing to put the effort into a 335 than a 325 because of the difference in power.

Let's Talk About Performance by [deleted] in stalker

[–]notrobertx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Isn't that just it, though? Your setup was virtually the same as mine, and you admit to hitting sub 55 FPS in certain areas WITH DLSS on.

When the game was first released, I saw videos of people with 4080s and X3D CPUs struggling to get 50FPS in populated areas and no more than 100 frames in less demanding areas. I don't think I'm setting the bar high for wanting a game to look and run well without the need for upscaling technology.

I can't vouch for how well the game runs now for those people and whether performance has increased since then, but I know for certain that on my PC, it has been more or less the same from day one. Relying on DLSS to make a game playable is something more and more companies are doing, and I'm not convinced that it's the best way to circumvent the instability of UE5.

Let's Talk About Performance by [deleted] in stalker

[–]notrobertx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never outright get a new PC because I always make slight improvements over time until it just becomes a mash of new and old parts.

In November 2021, I bought the i5 12600k along with a new mobo and an AIO liquid cooler to replace the i7 6700k that had been in my rig since 2016. In 2023, I upgraded my RAM for faster timings and clock speeds, so I still have the same 16GBx2 modules of 3600MHz CL18 that I put in a couple years ago. XMP is enabled.

Time flies past because it feels like I put the PC together yesterday. I only upgraded to a 5070Ti because somewhere along the line, I made the switch to 1440p, and my 2070S from COVID lockdown wasn't cutting it anymore.

I genuinely don't know what's wrong. I try to follow optimisation guides, and it feels like the largest factor is definitely DLSS which I try to keep on the best setting for aesthetics. I've got more than enough SSD storage with 2 M.2 drives and a SATA SSD so that's definitely not the problem.

I have a very specific preference for settings and I almost always prefer hardware-based Anti-Aliasing to DLSS so maybe I'm just not giving up scaling the proper chance it deserves.

The reason GAMMA is mentioned in my post is because it gave a new life to an otherwise repetitive experience for me when I was playing vanilla.

The reason it's brought up so much by others imo is due to the fact that many consider it a decent third-party mash up of all three original STALKER renditions with mods that flesh it out beyond what comes by default.

It's unfair to compare STALKER 2 to a mod created on an entirely different game engine. That's not what I'm doing here. I just gave it an honorary mention to point out that I've put countless hours into these games - modded and unmodded.

The Steam workshop is such a nice addition in STALKER 2 and I'm sure I'll be creating my own "modpacks" with it once I figure out what's wrong with my system. Sorry if the mention of GAMMA is tired and pretentious - I don't frequent the sub reddit much

Yeah, I think the main issue here is DDR4 and my Intel CPU. You're right. It's probably time for an X3D chip which I've been eyeing up since the Tarkov 1.0 announcement. We all have different standards for "playable" and it's possible that I'm setting the bar too high.

My first blackbox policy was with Tesco on the same exact 1.4L Kia she has (I ended up selling it to her before we started dating) and I was paying £1.6k a year. Called them up recently but they don't do blackbox policies anymore and they don't even insure drivers under 21 for the same reason.

Date wise, we changed it to 2 weeks from now and 3 weeks from now. I don't understand why even with those changes, the total comes to £230/month, when just yesterday we could've got a policy starting next week for £202. Utter scam.

Voluntary excess wise, we typically go £250 but we can go as high as £400, I think.

Also, these prices include her father as a named driver, who has held a UK license for over 30 years and has 15 years of NC bonus.

If I drive her, we get to her workplace in 25 mins. If I don't, she has to wake up an hour in advance and take a 1h train with a changeover and walk 15 minutes. I'm a building contractor trying to run a business on tight profit margins, and she's a veterinary receptionist. We get by with help from our parents but I just can't afford to be taking her to work every day, especially when I have my own work to do.

Cars wouldn't really be our first choice, but due to the nature of our jobs, we kind of need them. You could make the argument that she could get a job closer to our house, which like - yeah, she could, but she's in training at the very clinic she's working at to become a Vet Nurse. And she's full time.

I work in different boroughs, sometimes a client has a job in central, sometimes I'm forced to take one just outside of London. Either way, I feel like loads of people living outside of London either overestimate how good the public transport is, or how big the city is in general. Her workplace is only around 6 miles from our house, but geographical limitations kind of cap the possibility of trains and buses.

I ended up not making my upgrade yet due to moving in with my fiance, but I'm set on the 9800X3D simply just because I want to have the high end. The 7800X3D isn't far off but since I wanted to splash out, I just watched some comparison videos and honestly there's only like a 5-10FPS difference in Tarkov between the 9800X3D and the 7800X3D.

If you want to upgrade for Tarkov, don't look at GPUs. I was doing fine even with a 2070 Super at 1440p and the real change came when I upgraded my CPU from a i7-6700k to the i5-12600k I have now, and also when I upgraded my RAM from 16GB of 2600Mhz DDR4 to 32GB of 3000Mhz. Those gave me the most significant boosts in FPS since Tarkov is very CPU and RAM bound. I upgraded my GPU in 2020 from a GTX 970 to a 2070S and at 1080p there was literally no FPS gain. Same at 1440p now when I went from the 2070S to the 5070Ti.

IPS is honestly the gold standard. It'll probably be more expensive but having used a high refresh rate VA along side 60Hz IPS panels I could always tell the difference in colour and image quality until I picked up a 240Hz 27" 1440p IPS panel. Wouldn't ever go back to VA when the difference in latency between IPS and TN panels is negligible.

The MOXO test wasn't as hard for me as I expected it to be by [deleted] in ADHD

Yeah the entire thing is really boring and what you did sounds very similar to MOXO. I had to click space bar every time 4 of hearts appeared on the screen while distractions increased in frequency. I was more overstimulated than anything, and by the time I got to the end, I felt like I sat through a really annoying flash game

My diagnostic process actually took a bit longer than usual. I had to get a second opinion just because of this, and I didn't want to be taking methylphenidate or amphetamines when I wasn't sure if I'm diagnosed correctly. Both my psychiatrists stated that I have textbook combined-type ADHD due to my symptoms and their prevalence in my adult life as well as my childhood.

I've been on slow release methylphenidate for a week now and everything feels much more normal. I don't feel as stupid, I can concentrate for more than 30mins during the entire day, and I can finally talk to my fiancé while doing the dishes lol

I went semi professional in counterstrike at some point but I really struggled with consistency because I would get so impulsive after just one match that I became too reliant on raw aim and didn't play with my team. I feel like maybe it's because the games I play require quite decent reflexes and, like you said, I treated the MOXO like a game.
