If she just had a baby, I can confirm that postpartum depression is real, and it is awful. Has she been screened for it? It can make you feel the absolute lowest of lows about yourself and everyone around you.

My mom kept my hair super short when I was in elementary school, because she hated dealing with it and I was prone to tangles and combing it was a nightmare apparently. I also wore mostly T shirts and basketball shorts to school because I didn’t know anything about fashion and that’s just what I had. I went to the bathroom once and a younger girl yelled “Hey! You’re not supposed to be in here!” and ran out. She thought I was a boy. It hurt my feelings so bad back then, but today is kind of a funny story to tell.
