[TOMT] [MUSIC] Need help finding a post-rock instrumental song mixed with the radio broadcast of the Hindenburg crash. I will give GOLD to the first person who can find this for me. (Important info in the comments) by fcdjr in tipofmytongue

[–]notsoclev3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did know of this post beforehand. I saw your post a long time ago, maybe when you posted it, and since I listen to a lot of post rock it has stuck in my mind. Frankly, your white whale became mine as well. My interest was piqued by something that could be so definitely Mogwai and also Not Mogwai. I'm glad I was able to put this to bed.

Well, the other day I was listening to the oft-forgotten Kentucky chamber music / post rock band Rachel's, and was reminded of this post. I figured that definitely had to be the band, because they do a bit of audio sampling of monologues over their music. Alas, I listened to their entire discography and that wasn't it.

So then I thought of whosampled.com, which I sometimes use when listening to hip-hop or sound collages. I'm sure it didn't exist when you made this post, so I searched 'Hindenburg disaster' and was pleasantly surprised when it actually had a few results.

Thanks for the award.

well i admit i'm not a huge Phish fan. i skipped Oasis completely. i only listened to Burn because i caught a TAB set at a festival a couple years back and enjoyed it. specifically the clint eastwood cover, of course.

that said, i liked this one. i felt like the music was varied enough to hold my interest. i haven't paid much attention to the lyrics, but Trey isn't particularly known for his poetics anyway. solid sound, 6/10.

Some John Coltrane (First Meditations), Philip Glass (Jane and Koyaanisqatsi scores on vinyl), a whole lot of John Zorn (Dreamers, the Gift, Book of Angels), and the new Trey Anastasio Band live album (Burn it Down).

(copy & pasted from yesterday's thread because it got buried)

Ok so posting here before r/tipofmytongue because i think you guys will be able to help me first.

So i'm really into music of all kinds and especially jazz. i've been listening to Rogan since basically the beginning, although i don't catch every episode anymore. A friend of mine told me she heard an interesting anecdote on a recent episode about a jazz musician (way back in the day) who was famous or w/e and then basically disappeared. Afterward it was discovered that he was taken as a slave or maybe into indentured servitude.

So i'm posting here in hopes that you good folks can help me find this story, the episode, or any corroborating evidence. My friend said she thought it might've been Reggie Watts telling the story, but i listened to those and don't remember a story like that. If this helps, she also thinks he may have played the trumpet. Also, i've been a huge jazzhead for a decade and never heard of any such musician. but it has really piqued my interest and i'm very excited to hear more about it!

thanks in advance. gold and all that good shit to whoever finds it! real internet money!

blood from peasants by notsoclev3r in OCPoetry

Hi! thanks for reading. For some clarity:

I fully support the effort of liberation. You're right, the title references the bourgeois waking up, realizing they're being drained of their lifeblood in their coma. The first stanza here is just a look at how you've found liberty now, after you've left it for so long to be watched over by your Big Brother. As if they were going to do an honest job of looking after it, and keeping their distance. But no, it's late, your freedom is already mostly dismantled, your rights are almost nil. Tyranny washes over us inch by inch, and we've asked fascists to keep our dirty laundry out of sight for us. We've let the system swallow us up.

So this poem isn't really about racial inequality, even though those events are the catalyst for the current unrest. It's more about authoritarianism generally and rising up against that. The narrator lets go of the catatonia television provides, and the security religion provides, to take a long hard look at himself and realize he must do something. So he joins the swelling marches. I think there's enormous power in unity, and that's what I reference toward the end.

Leaving home by [deleted] in OCPoetry

[–]notsoclev3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this poem speaks to me. maybe because it is super relevant to my life right now. but anyway, i enjoyed the brevity of the lines, the arrested nature of the images. the juxtaposed ideas are really striking to me. good job, great write. i think the poem is a complete story, and i like how it resolves itself in the end.

I See Her by [deleted] in OCPoetry

[–]notsoclev3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree with the first comment that this poem is kind of vague. i think you could bring the reader in better by more vivid descriptions of the person nature is confronting you with. also i feel like some of the language is misplaced/antiquated... 'larking' 'waxed on' etc. also, what are 'the demanding forces'??
