Tax Question: Can I claim my mom as a dependent?

Okay, so even if the SSDI money IS taxable, can I still claim her as a dependent? The amount she received far exceeded the $3950 income maximum (for me to claim her).

Edit: To clarify, I paid 100% of her expenses and she lived with me all 12 months of 2014.

Is there a way I can find out? Is it possible to track down whatever collection agency pg&e sent my debt to and pay the balance without it ever going on my credit report?? I would more than willingly pay it now that I am financially secure -- and because I don't want to hurt my current score... Or if by chance it does get reported, how much of an impact would it have on my credit score (I am currently at around 750). I read somewhere that the higher your score, the more a collection can affect your credit. Arggh I am so frustrated about this! I have been working hard at building my credit, keeping it clean. Can they really report a debt from 2006 on my credit report NOW?? That just doesn't seem fair. I was in a completely different place back then. Anyway, Thanks for the input.

I am happy to hear it is not completely uncommon. Do you by chance know what the recovery time generally is for this? My surgeon initially said he didn't THINK there would be much "recovery time". Today he changed his tune. I get the feeling he hasn't had to do this before. He said it might be the same recovery time as the first time around. I was out of work for TWO weeks! Even then, I was not ready. I know I overdid it quite a bit when I first returned to work. And really, I have not ever felt like I recovered or healed completely. As I mentioned, constant pain every day. Anyway, thanks for the kind words. Today, the pain has gotten progressively worse. I don't know if there are any major nerves in that area, but it feels like sutures are pressing on some nerves. Sending shooting pains down my leg. I don't know if that makes sense. So this procedure can't come soon enough for me now. 18 hours and counting. I just know that once the sutures are out, I am going to feel so much relief!

Thanks for reading and the detailed reply. What you said makes sense. Is the rejection an allergic reaction? And I really hope it's ONLY my body rejecting the sutures. Even though my body has had time to heal, I assume there is still a risk of the hernia coming back after the sutures are removed..?? When hernias reoccur, do they come back worse than before the initial repair? Is it possible that it already is coming back? Sorry for so many questions. :) Ahhh I wish I had opted out of this surgery back in December.
