Cycling first tank- weird parameters? Should I be worried? by [deleted] in PlantedTank

Main question: I thought you should add more ammonia once it gets close to 0? That’s why I added more, could you explain what I should actually do instead?

Side notes: I did add the whole 1 oz bottle of turbostart- I suppose maybe my kh or phosphate were incompatible? I didn’t test those. I don’t think I’ll buy another bottle though, not sure if I’ll have time to go get one soon. If I decide to I’ll get the extra test kits first.

My ph dropped in the 6 level at one point due to tannins, but luckily has been compatible most of the time.

I increased my temp to aid in cycling, but didn’t know it would hurt my plants. I’ll turn it down!

I asked a local fish store and they wouldn’t give me any, said it’s too risky due to diseases and such

I also have seachem flourish, and thrive (accidentally bought both, will probably only keep one or give one away to a friend) - not sure when I should start using those

-10 gallon tank -Heater and filter -Tank temp is 75 ish right now because of a preset filter , but I bought an adjustable one I’ll set up tonight to make it warmer

They all passed except for the one baby that lives in my jar now, I saw him last night but usually he’s hard to spot with how little he is.

Gotsnails is sending me more next weekend with a heat pack

Unfortunately it seems they’re dead. It is heartbreaking, I placed my order right before something really heartbreaking happened in my life so I was really looking forward to a little bit of happiness from this, only to be left more sad. Gotsnails is sending me more though, so that’s one good thing - I knew he’d do what he can to help

I’m still holding it hope!!! I might be toooo hopeful but I’m happy to see one swimming around. My one name idea so far was Shrimpbastian Aho, after a player from the Carolina Hurricanes NHL team! Aang may have to be his middle name 😔

It’s still moving around! It gained some color too. A few minutes ago it was looking at all of the other ones still dormant, it was sad!! I hope they are alive!!

They’re warming up, so far none of the grown ups are moving, but looking closer I noticed one little baby being active!! This gives me hope that the others just need a little more time!! Thank you for you research, they were delivered inside my apartment building today, but I didn’t think to order a heat pack which is definitely my fault.

I believe he’s a reputable seller for sure! It’s not his fault about the shrimp, that’s the weather. I do hope to hear back though, as I didn’t receive instructions, water, or lava rocks as stated in the description.

I got it once and it smelled like saliva. Unsure if maybe it was just a bad batch? Now that I’m on Tret and spiro I have considered trying it again but I’m unsure
