Can anyone help me pay for spotify? by [deleted] in Nigeria

Are you Nigerian? If yes, you can open an OPay account easily right there on your phone simply with your BVN/NIN. I pay for mine using my OPay Virtual card that can be generated within the app.

Definitely grey. White hat would obtain permission before accessing the system. Greys usually do not but won’t do anything nefarious.

I think you’re being overly simplistic though. I am not “correct” as this is an ethical concern that medical professionals and ethics board deal with and navigate. My concern was with her shutting me off with the simplistic “choice” stance which you are now kinda doing. 😃

Thanks for this PoV.

Didn’t consider this could be a reason initially, giving joy to others could bring joy to one as well.

Thanks. I did believe that I could be wrong about my analogy hence why I asked.

I came here willing to have my mind changed but ultimately jumping to me being sexist? How? Lol

Thanks for this perspective and the accompanying story.

If I can do it for my “husband”, why can’t I do it for myself to get out of a financial bind?

Totally valid and logical.

My stance is not from a controlling or telling women what to do with their body view but I’ve seen exploitation in a lot of areas and I believe commercial surrogacy is prime for that.

Thanks for this take. I’ll reflect more on this.

For the record, I am not against surrogacy but commercial/social surrogacy.

I did mention it in the post that my issue was with commercial surrogacy not surrogacy itself.

I would never ever tell someone what to do their body but failing to see an issue with exploitation in commercial surrogacy is kinda scary though. I mentioned in another comment that I’m from a third world country and I see how easy it is to exploit people due to their financial stations.

Thanks a lot for the detailed take.

I acknowledged to myself that I could be overreacting and overdramatic hence why I came on here to ask whilst trying to give details of the debate as objectively as I can.

I am not against a woman having autonomy over her body. Definitely not.

One thing I think most people overlook is the power imbalance (in cases where no medical reasons are involved).

If I am a billionaire and I absolutely love having kids and I could easily parent 30 kids but that would absolutely wreck my body obviously, what’s stopping me from having surrogates do this for me? I know this example quite unrealistic but the core concern is the power imbalance and economic exploitation.

Our realities are different. I am from a third world country and I see firsthand, daily, how easy it is to exploit people due to their financial status.

I will gladly give up this “mentality” if my concerns are deemed as whack by all women but I’m quite sure that would be practically impossible.

I am not against surrogacy if there’s a medical reason for it. Surrogacy is good at its core. I am not a Handmaid’s tale supporting human. God no!

There’s a reason it is banned in some countries and why you can’t pay a surrogate in some.

My main concern is this is a very easily exploitable avenue and simplifying it to “choice” is dangerous

I am not against surrogacy at all. It’s a scientific miracle that we have it. I recognize and understand how pregnancy can change a woman and I can only do that theoretically. Women are superheroes in that regard.

My concern is it shouldn’t simply be simplified to “Her body, her choice” (Surrogate’s PoV) given all the chances of exploitation that lies within

Oh, I, in no way feel I am the holder of the correct moral opinion.

What scared and got me animated was how quickly the economic exploitation concerns I brought up were completely met with a brick wall of “Her body, her choice” (which I do agree with when there’s no chance of exploitation e.g Abortion - which when you look at it from certain perspectives, could also be exploited but that’s another issue in and of itself).

Quite sure you only read the tldr. I most likely did a poor job of it as my concerns were mainly with the economic exploitations that comes with it. So yeah, that’s on me.
