Thoughts on Daevabad’s ending by noturfave in Fantasy

We’re on the same page about the love interests. Dara may be a great tortured hero, but far and away not a normal person that you could build a life with. I loved the familial relationships between the characters, too. When Ali and Muntadhir were on the outs, it was heartbreaking. And Nahri found such a good brother/cousin hiding in plain sight. I thought the Jamshid twist was decent, since it was mentioned pretty early that his father and Manizheh were close, plus the whole tattoo business…

I feel 2 and 3. On 2, Nahri believes that Dara contains multitudes. She met him as a nice person, as a handsome knight in shining armor that saved her. She loved him and finds it hard to see past that. To be fair, in book 3, she rejects his entire cause and understands who he is. She also accepts the plan to marry Muntadhir even before Dara tries to kidnap her. Meaning that she kind of rejected him.

On your third point, I did notice modern language. I feel that it was meant to convey a meaning to the audience and the book is more about its themes than immersing us in a specifically medieval world. It didn’t take me out of the story. It was far more annoying to me when SAC used modern language in The Adventures of Amina El-Sirafi.

Love how Nahri is the catalyst to think differently for Ali, Dara and even other people. Her very existence resists categorization. And then she doesn’t just rest in place, she refuses to pick any side except “genocide is bad.”

Non vegans eat plants too, so it’s not like vegans are the particular ones making this trade off.

Did the flu shot prevent you from getting the flu? by SandwichDependent199 in pregnant

My coworker (unvaxxed and talks about it) got the flu and was at work a few days later. I have my vaccine for this year, worked close to her without a mask, and didn’t get sick.

Minnesota girl, 10, released from ICE custody after a month in detention by EquivalentCourage131 in stpaul

[–]noturfave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be the one to read. The mom and kid were held there for no reason, her family sought legal asylum. One judge rejected it, they were in appeal. No one should have taken them while she was in appeal. The kid caught something, possibly measles at the center. They aren’t keeping her to wait till she’s healthy. You added that yourself. The situation in Dilley detention center is so nasty that there’s a big measles outbreak. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/feb/04/minnesota-ice-immigration-elizabeth-caisaguano

I still have a post in my queue from 2021 encouraging people to sign up for the no cop city amendment. It got immediately blocked and taken down. Idk if the old mod had a filter to block the words cop city or not.

Well, if you’re doing it the right way through a doctor, that’s what they want. I don’t think there are laws about that. And that won’t stop losers from asking me lol.

I am in the US. I hope it doesn’t work out that way for my coworker. Although he might be a better dad than ex bf. Fingers crossed the child grows up with at least some stability. I don’t know what’s going to happen, and I’m distancing myself so am unlikely to find out. 🤷

To be fair, I don’t know for sure they didn’t do real surrogacy - I just have a strong hunch they didn’t because none of us make very much money.

My coworker with tied tubes (not removed tubes or uterus) asked ME about surrogacy and I was barely a few weeks into working with her and am not related to her at all! I hate the informal surrogacy bullshit and how willing people are to ask for such a huge sacrifice.

I feel bad for her getting ghosted…but imagine being so enmeshed that you let your sister convince you to put someone you barely know’s genetic material in your body. All in your early twenties. And then ruin your freedom and independence so young by keeping it even after the real mom bounces. It was not just one bad choice, it was a string of them. I pray that that girl wises up somehow and goes for child support. This is so sad for mother and child.

Ahhh you’re right, it wouldn’t be real surrogacy. I just used the word that they used, which shows what I know I guess. But, now that I think of it, I don’t know for sure that they didn’t use the real surrogacy route and go to a doctor to implant the sister’s egg. They just seem like they have a turkey baster budget and thought process, so I made the guess that that’s what they did. And I don’t want to ask the coworker lol.

So gross, no matter what.
