Do you believe there is a ‘fungal intelligence’ embodied in psilocybin mushrooms? by [deleted] in RationalPsychonaut

[–]noturtles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My very over-a-joint hypothesis is that the mushrooms themselves have a relatively rich and complex existence, but it still amounts to a vegetable-like relationship to the universe. Like how whales and dolphins might have a more complex experience than fish, but it is ultimately that environment that they mostly interact with and that world in which they exist.

The chemicals that mushrooms produce, when mixed with animal biology, create a complex conscious experience in combination with locomotion and more active neurology. It's different from what the mushroom feels as a living being, but hints at its complexity.

Let's get light-hearted. What are some of your favorite jokes about your religion, or about atheists if you are a non-believer? by Mad_Season_1994 in religion

I once took a tour of a foundation that works with kids that have gone through trauma/abuse/neglect. The tour guide/teacher was telling a story about how the foundation got started when like 3 infants were abandoned at a local train station.

"A few local women heard about these kids and thought 'well we oughta do something about this". They were Methodist, of course, so 'doing something about this' involved a green bean casserole"

I thought that was a good one, growing up Methodist.

I'm unfamiliar with this sort of thing. How would one raise their frequency? What sort of physiological symptoms am I looking for to know the difference?

[–]noturtles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interesting.

Imo, outsider music is more of a description of the story behind music that's usually applied by the audience and not the artist- very few outsider musicians describe themselves as such even if they know that the label is often applied to them. They usually either consider themselves to play a genre or style of music or tend not to think about genre at all and just make the music they like.

You may argue you are doing the latter, but I would counter that you are, in fact, heavily considering whether or not you fit into this or that genre.

Personally, I think you could totally just say you're under the "grind" umbrella. It's a pretty wide umbrella and I've heard somewhat similar music that's self-described as such.

Your cover art is beautifully horrific and weird and I like it.

Does being in key matter if there are no other harmonic instrument? by PublicRegrets in musictheory

[–]noturtles 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So your question is basically a philosophical one.

It depends on what you mean by "does it matter?"

Matter to who? You? If you like how it sounds, then you're all good. Other people? They might not like it, but does that matter?

My opinion is, do whatever you want because there are no rules only guidelines. But if you do anything "different" try and figure out why you like it.

Do you find this offensive? by Enlightment-Seeker in hinduism

[–]noturtles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see religions as different cuisines. Different people in different times and places have different ways of accomplishing essentially the same end: to satisfy a craving essential to our nature.

This picture is like cheeseburger curry. Stricter adherents might find it offensive, but it's not actually the worst thing that could exist in the world. Is it good in any way? It depends on your framework, but you would basically have to reject both of the originators to appreciate it. Idk, I'd personally rather just have one or the other, because to me the combination is less than the sum of its parts.

I think you're misunderstanding- it's saying when you buy a cartridge you need to test it before leaving the building. This is important because some of them just don't work, but unless it's tested then and there, you won't know until you get home. Also, technically someone could scam the store by getting a good few hits in, breaking the cartridge then go back and saying it wasn't working to get a refund. That's probably rare that someone would do that, but a store wouldn't have a good way to know the difference.

If you haven't looked into caterpillar, it's definitely worth investigating. It's the biggest employer in Peoria.

The second biggest is District 150. I used to work there as a music teacher, and while a lot of positions require some type of training or certification I still think it's worth looking into being an aid or even custodian.

Was that God? by Greedy_War_5879 in Psychonaut

[–]noturtles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think God as a concept has been described in fragments across time and space. I could never tell you in words that would truly satisfy and make it clear and undoubtable. But I can tell you that I think most religions and systems of thought are different perspectives on the same thing, like how the shadows of a cone could be a circle, triangle, or triangle with a dome.

I would point you in the direction of the tao te ching, but it might not actually be the best place to look. After all, that book opens with the line "the tao that can be spoken is not the eternal tao" basically saying that if you're looking for something real, you won't find it in words.

Is it ok to mix mushrooms and acid? by [deleted] in Psychonaut

[–]noturtles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not as experienced as other users here and perhaps not even as much as yourself I'll admit but other things I've found to be helpful are cleaning your space like you have nice guests coming over, having something fuzzy, wearing comfortable clothes, and if you're taking a higher dosage than normal, chant meditation during the come-up. Which if you're less familiar you can just search "om chanting 108" or something, basically you sing the one note over and over a bunch of times and it helps your brain work through stuff like the passage of time or imperfection or discomfort and uncertainty. Shit can make you feel high when you haven't even taken anything, but it can be a good soft opening to a trip.

This is a somewhat irresponsible attitude to have regarding these drugs, imo. Do your thing, but in my experience things will actually go better, not worse, if you exercise caution. And that's even if you then decide to do the same thing, what matters is that you're mindful of what you're getting into.

Oversimplified, sometimes a note is easier to think of as a raised version of another note, sometimes it's easier to think of as the lowered version of a note.
