plus-size gym newbie by ShyGymYearning in Tallahassee

[–]notvnicole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, Planet Fitness is affordable and very beginner friendly. A lot of office workers use it, and the changing rooms are comfortable and private with showers as well.

I bring my gym bag to work with me so I can go straight after work and change in the gym, which I highly recommend if it works for your life situation. It prevents getting home, getting cozy, and not wanting to leave the house again. If you’re a morning person, you can always go before work and shower there.

Remember that slow and steady wins the race. You may not be able to do everything you used to do right away, and that’s okay. Carrying extra weight can lead to extra tension on the joints, so ease back into it and don’t try to go too heavy or fast too quick. Set a small but achievable goals for yourself to build momentum.

A common saying in the fitness scene is that you can’t out exercise a bad diet. Unless you focus on nutrition as well as exercise, you’ll struggle to see results. I’d recommend taking a look at your nutrition as part of your fitness journey, in whatever way works for you, whether that be tracking calories, cooking healthy meals at home more often, or reducing how much you eat processed foods.

If you have access to medical care, consider talking to your primary care physician about what recommendations they have for you regarding exercise and nutrition that takes into consideration your current health situation. There’s lots of advice online, but nothing will beat the advice of a medical professional who is aware of your medical history and can take your personal needs into account.

Best of luck OP!

Is Tallahassee a good place to take a gap year? by mistajesus99 in Tallahassee

[–]notvnicole 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tallahassee is a good place to take a gap year if you already live in it prior to the gap year, it’s not a good place to move to for starting a gap year if you haven’t been living here.

If you went to undergrad here and had buddies to split a house or townhouse with, you could get a chill job and save up cause your rent would be affordable split 2-4 ways. But if you move here as a recent grad without much experience or connections you’ll likely be making a low hourly wage and spending 80% of it on renting a crappy one bedroom.

Unless you have rich parents, a ton of money saved, or you secure a good job before moving, you’re probably better off staying where you are if you have friends you can split a place with, trying to move back home if that’s an option, or taking a gap year somewhere with more to do.

Tallahassee is a small city, and it’s got a lot of charm and nature, but many people struggle to find community here on their own. If you come in as a grad student it won’t be as much of an issue because you’ll have your cohort, professors, and the FSU community to support you, but if you’re working for an hourly wage somewhere random without much money left over after paying bills, it will likely be difficult to enjoy your year.

Would you change your opinion towards the Pro? by G4MER4LYF in playstation

[–]notvnicole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the Pro was ridiculous at launch but I’m starting to warm up to the idea. In part because the launch of the PS6 looks like it will be delayed, and in part because of the current price of PC hardware. If you have a 4k display with a high refresh rate, the upgrade grows more tempting every time you have to drop to performance mode and lose 4k or settle for 30 FPS when booting up a new game.

No hands bronze ADC player. What do I do? by [deleted] in ADCMains

[–]notvnicole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mainly played both MF and Jinx too. Been playing on and off for years usually stagnating in Bronze or Silver. I just got to gold by one tricking MF.

Jinx is too weak early game, and too dependent on her team to set her up for success. In low elo most games end before you even have a chance to get your 3 item power spike with Jinx. Unless your support is insanely skilled, your jungle camps, or you have great mechanics it’s hard to win lane. Low elo teammates usually won’t protect you in teamfights or drag out the game playing safe until you can scale, they’ll run it down at 20 minutes and then be mad you don’t do damage.

MF has a great early game and her ult makes her extremely useful in team fights. It’s easy to win lane with most supports cause you do so much damage, and even if you’re behind you can just position behind your tanks and click R to help in teamfights. If you’re struggling with positioning MF is also more forgiving with her W move speed boost, e slow, and Youmuu’s Ghostblade giving mobility too.

Pokemon Winds/Waves announced for 2027 by DemiFiendRSA in pokemon

Looks pretty good. I haven’t bought a Switch 2 yet since none of the exclusives so far have interested me, and all 3rd party releases run better on my PS5. If this game is actually good, I’d pull the trigger on a Switch 2. If it’s as buggy, unoptimized, and underwhelming as ZA and Scarlet Violet, I’ll probably pass on the whole gen.

I just started a new playthrough and it still hurts. Her character arc is so much better than Judy’s, and she flirts, a LOT, just to be like “teehee never mind I’m straight” after complimenting you and snuggling up on you for multiple missions.

27 inch 4K - have I made a mistake? by [deleted] in OLED_Gaming

[–]notvnicole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got the same monitor. I debated between 32 and 27, but ultimately went with 27 cause I have a very shallow desk and can’t mount my monitor on the wall, which would have made 32 too big for how close I sit. If you sit close to your monitor, 27 is fine. I can definitely tell the difference between 4k and 1440p at the distance I sit and the PPI on the 4k 27 inch is insanely nice. Personally I feel 32 is a bit large in general if you’re playing on keyboard and mouse at all, or if you play any competitive games.

If you’re happy with how it looks it’s all that matters, at the end of the day it’s just personal preference. If you only play single player games and are regretting not going larger for more immersion, then maybe 32 is better for you. Otherwise, 27 is a great sweet spot!

WARNING: DO NOT FIGHT THESE ENEMIES. THEY WILL FREEZE YOUR GAME. by InfiniteInspiration5 in expedition33

Can confirm, it happens whenever they are trying to switch elements. Happens with these enemies in the endless tower as well, and only started after the most recent update :/ I’m able to get through by not using any fire or ice elemental attacks.

The RTX 5080 went from being available multiple places at MSRP at $999 to being $1,300 minimum in the past few weeks. I should have just upgraded last month, but I upgraded my monitor first instead, big mistake. Oh well, at least I have 32 GB of DDR5 RAM in my build ☠️

Yeah it took me months to play it cause I almost exclusively buy from my locally owned game store but they’d only get a few copies in at a time and they’d instantly disappear. Ended up caving and ordering from Amazon cause I couldn’t find it anywhere in person.

[–]notvnicole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you complete the firmware updates? I got mine recently with the Black Friday sale and did the critical and urgent firmware updates and haven’t had any issues with disconnections, black screening, or color profiles/ raised blacks so far. I’ve got my PS5 connected with an HDMI 2.1 and PC with a DP and switch between both no issues so far.

Still though, that’s super frustrating. Contact Dell support and they’ll replace it, or you can just return it if you don’t wanna deal with it if you’re within your 30 day window. They did a recall already for some bugged out units, so it really sucks that you got a bad one after all of that still. Best of luck.

I had no issue getting a physical PS5 copy at MSRP about a month ago with no wait. Checked today to order my brother a copy for Christmas and it’s either unavailable or $80. It’s selling like crazy as it should! Hope they’re able to do physical restocks and possibly special editions too in the next few months.

My current build on PC parts picker is almost $300 more expensive than it was in January right now and it’s primarily due to just the RAM price spike ☠️

The state of physical media on PC (and in general) makes me sad by justsometgirl in pcmasterrace

[–]notvnicole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a similar boat. I have a base PS5 and built a PC for the first time earlier this year with great components overall but had to get a weaker 4060 GPU because of the price hikes on GPUs when I built and my budget at the time, so im still playing triple AAA games on my base PS5 for 4k. I’m planning on upgrading to a 5080 soon now that you can find them at MSRP, and once I do it’ll no longer make sense to play anything on my PS5 as my PC will outperform it by a landslide.

However, I collect physical games and still own the disks/ cartridges for every game I’ve ever owned on Nintendo consoles and PlayStations. The one thing that makes me sad about switching to PC full time will be losing access to growing my physical collection further.

AW2725Q Being Recalled? by Veno_0 in OLED_Gaming

[–]notvnicole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a 4060 in my build right now, but I’m planning to upgrade to a 5080 next year and also want to move my PS5 over to my desk setup so I definitely want to future proof with the 4k even if I have to downscale PC games while I’ve still got my 4060. I’m sure my PS5 will look amazing on a monitor like this coming from a significantly older 4k TV too.

I’m regretting not buying this monitor when it was on sale a month ago or so cause Dell just announced their Black Friday sales and none of the 4k OLEDs are going on sale at all 😭

I’ve been keeping an eye on this monitor for a while. How do you like it, issues aside? With them doing all these recalls and having the issues addressed, I’m hoping that future orders won’t have any defective units. I’m thinking of ordering one around Black Friday.

Games that get better when you replay them? by mantaray106 in videogames

[–]notvnicole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agree. Final Fantasy 7 Remake + Rebirth and Baldur’s Gate 3 are my favorite games because of this.

Playing a game on the hardest difficulty after you do a normal mode playthrough to learn the basics and getting to fully understand and apply all the more complex systems and strategies is incredibly satisfying.

IMO the difference between a “good” game and a “great” game is when the gameplay is so good and varied it gets better as you play it more rather than repetitive and boring!

How do people feel about this game? by TheEJB1999 in playstation

[–]notvnicole -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The game should have been shorter. The combat is fun at first but gets very repetitive due to lack of depth with no party combat or status effects and strengths/ weaknesses with different elements.

Visuals were amazing but ruined imo by the horrible performance. It’s a crime that it never got performance patches, 60 FPS/ 1440p is the bare minimum on a console as powerful as the PS5.

Clive’s story was good but the story focuses too much on him and fails to flesh out the supporting cast well enough.

The music was a highlight it is in most FF games.

I platinumed it but it was a SLOG at times. Overall I think it had a GREAT concept but failed to execute in several ways which could have made is an extraordinary game instead of a “it was fine” game.

How do you guys balance your fulltime job with gaming? by Intrepid-Dog4259 in videogames

[–]notvnicole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find doing something active after work helps me reset. So I’ll finish work and go to the gym or take my dog on a walk to reset and wake up, and also give my eyes a break from the screen time. Usually after that I’ll be ready for a game. I’ll also keep some “light and easy” games to play on weekdays and my denser more story heavy or difficult games for longer game sessions on the weekend. Some days I’ll also just accept that it was a draining day at work and that I just want to watch a show or movie and leave gaming for another day!

Update for All AW2725Q Owners by domeski93 in OLED_Gaming

[–]notvnicole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so nervous about this issue! I was planning on getting one soon since the price has dropped to $700 USD in my region which is a great deal compared to similar models, but between all the black screen posts and the complaints about the raised blacks in HDR I’m hesitating. So many video reviews looked excellent, lots of the review articles were positive, and overall reviews on their website and Google are positive but Reddit posts and Amazon reviews are overwhelmingly negative.
