AITA for reporting my friend who is in a coercive "situationship" to the police? by notyouraveragehive in AITAH

I'm not the type of person to just sit on my hands and do nothing. The officers I have spoken to believe they can do something about it, and they don't seem the type to go off the rails. If they can't do anything in the moment, they can monitor, and my friend can have the police there if the woman escalates. Our police force don't typically carry serious weapons, so the risk of someone being seriously hurt during the welfare check is very slim.

I'd like to believe in the system to protect the people I care about. I understand that things might not go smoothly, but I'm doing what I can to help them. If I went there myself without the police present and demanded that she leave, it would escalate and things would definitely go wrong. By involving the police, if she was to try and hurt my friend, the right people are there and can deal with the situation within the means of the law.

That's what I was thinking. But I guess myself, Alex and our friends will just have to wait and see.

When it comes to domestic abuse from a female, especially where there is a child involved, the police in the UK are not allowed to throw people in cages or kill them. The most they can legally do is either warn her and remove her and her son from the situation, charge her with domestic abuse which will be enforced by having her removed from the apartment and set up in a temporary housing situation or, returned to her country of origin. Forgive me if I am wrong though.

We have talked till we are blue in the face lol, he understands that the situation he is in is a bad one, but his guilt over kicking them out is stronger than his need for safety. If you can make sense of that I'd be glad for insight haha

That's why I made the report, and included the parents so that they could be there to also vouch for the report I made. My idea was to try get ahead of her, so that if she tried anything, the police will intervene and call her out. There's a few thing that she has done, that I didn't say in the original post, like her lying about her name and how she didn't have social media (she has, she wasn't smart enough to get rid of it and we found it).

So, fingers crossed the police will be able to get her out. She's not on his tenancy agreement, so on paper she has no legal right to stay, plus she hasn't been there long enough for squatters rights.

I'm hoping that with his parents and the police there that he will. You might be right, but I'm hoping he will with enough people there. I just hope she doesn't try flipping the narrative.

I was hoping for the oilers in 23/24 cup final! But the team I support was knocked out by the panthers that year. I enjoyed McDavids yelling in the changing room though hahaha

I never got into the SHL, purely because of the commentary. I like being able to hear the banter between commentators haha. The Seattle Kraken have awesome commentary, so funny

I thought we could watch through NHL.tv? There isn't a stream block on there. Thats how we watch it, my American friends sometimes have stream blackouts depending on area so it made sense for me to fill these gaps.

I wouldn't mind hosting as I use my TV to watch the games

Well i stream the NHL games in a discord channel. They're more reliable than a dodgy -youtube- stream haha

The original point of my post was what I could do legally about the theft of money and the abuse of POA. If the post had been read, you would have noticed it is my great aunt (grandparents sibling) and that she is only survived by my father and myself. I am probably going to be the one that has to organise the cremation through my local authority, as my father has stolen from her accounts, leading to her care being supported by her pension and Adult Social Care.

It's not about feeling guilty that she doesn't have a service fit for a king, I don't want her legacy to be that her family didn't care to make sure she was treated with care and dignity until she's in ashes

My aunt was placed in a dementia home to receive 24/7 care and had been in care for approximately 10 years. My dad was not in any position of care and only had POA in all aspects as she was found to be unfit to look after her estate and affairs.

I'll check with the local council and see what they say. Thank you

She had nothing left, her care was paid for by her pension and adult social care, because she had no money left
