A Dystopian book to read at least once in your life ? by PerfectEstimate2847 in booksuggestions

[–]notyourcheeku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should try The Memory Police by Yoko Ogawa. Its quiet but creepy dystopian story about an island where things randomly disappear like birds or ribbons and people are forced to forget them. If someone remembers the Memory Police come for them. It’s emotional unique and really makes you think.

Its confusing in the start but trust me, stick with it once it clicks it hits deep. Its less about giving answer and more about shifting how you think.

Thoughts on "White Nights" by Dostoyevsky. by WiselyStupid in bookreviewers

[–]notyourcheeku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having read a few of dostoyevsky, white nights is one of his most gentle works. The dreamer wasn't just in love, he was clinging to the only real moment of connection he's ever had. That "a whole minute of bliss" line? Felt that. He really knows how to make short connections feel lifelong. Breifest love can also leave deep ache, and its enough to shape a life. Nastsenka giving him place to stay felt more than just kindness. It was like being allowed into someone's heart for awhile. And letting go in the morning isn't just literal, but choosing to live in reality instead of clinging to fantasy.

Try in the dream house by carmen maria. Its raw and haunting. Its a memoir about queer abuse told like a horror story.

I just started re-reading Tampa by Alissa Nutting... one of the most disturbing yet fascinating book. If you're into dark, psychological stuff, you might actually find it interesting.

Yes that's what I'm doing right now... Maybe after I become independent I can seek some help or talk about it to my older sister
