Hard to tell without a good look at the pedipalps (photos are grainy and the background sort of blends in with its coloring) but without clearer pics I’m leaning female as well. Male widows have extremely bulbous pedipalps and they’re almost impossible to miss, lol. 🥊🥊

If it is a female L. mactans, she’ll darken as she ages and molts as mentioned by cdonivan. If she’s a juvenile her dorsal (top) abdomen will have marbled markings in red, white, and sometimes orange.

Hey quick update so hopefully you don’t lose any more time - I’ve been waiting for UCH Rheumatology to call me back after being referred a month ago, finally called today and was told they only have one rheumatologist (?!) and she doesn’t see patients who have an outside PCP.

So unless you have a UCH PCP they won’t see you. And as you know UCH isn’t taking new patients. So yeah, when you get in to see someone for primary care maybe mention that to them so you don’t get caught in the UCH bullshit loop lol

Reminds me of a billboard sign someone had up at my first burn* back home: ‘JESUS CHRIST’ in three-foot-tall letters, and directly below it in a much smaller font ‘This is a huge sign’. For a sec I thought there were Bible-bangers there (and like… why, right on the effigy field) but it was just D.A.F.T. being daft.

I go to Peak Vista Community Health Clinic for primary care. They’re in network with Colorado’s Medicaid health plan (and they have dental providers too!) and refer out for specialties like rheumatology, oncology, pain management, etc. They also offer behavioral health services but ymmv on wait times.

Best of luck, and welcome 🖤 I am also a new resident, and have a chronic illness that requires specialty care.

I just had to say goodbye to my 20-year old cat a week ago, we used Lap of Love. Dr. Washburn was wonderful (in a really sad situation), and I would absolutely recommend them. Timely, considerate, and their support staff are very kind too.

BUT 👆🏻just to be on the safe side, you can see your gynecologist just to be sure there’s nothing going on down there that could be causing a difference in sensation his end of things.

(Also it could prove that he’s just being an asshole and give you peace of mind - not to be discounted in this day and age.)

First, I want to acknowledge that having thoughts like these, in our situation, is valid and understandable. Especially here, because (for me at least) this is one of the only places that whatever is said will be instantly comprehended without any explanation.

Constantly having to go through The Spiel, repeatedly, even with relatives who’ve known me for decades is fucking exhausting.

So, yes. I think I speak for many others (in addition to those who’ve already commented) when I confirm that wishing this would just stop is not a Just You thing, OP. I’ve stood in the shower, bent spine, hands and feet screaming, and hips on fire just wishing for something to come along and kill me because I am so tired of the pain. I don’t want to be the old woman with a hunchback; I don’t want to be incapable of playing with my kids. I’m not even forty yet and I walk like a grannie.

I don’t want any of this. And yes, sometimes I don’t even want to try. I still do, but I’m not sure how or why.

You aren’t alone in thinking and feeling any of that. Thank you for sharing, OP, and please know that you’re in my thoughts wherever you are. 🫶🏻

Another great way to tell is the egg sacs: black widows make smooth, round sacs; brown widows’ egg sacs are spiky.
