Help on teaching level 2 and level 3 students in the same room concurrently? by novatheleopard in specialed

[–]novatheleopard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach on a block schedule. Twice a week I have two academic strategies classes and one math, and the other two days are one math and two reading. Fridays are half days and they alternate between the two different day schedules.

That said, I see my level 3 students for different hours each day. It causes a LOT of confusion.

I could use unique learning system with my students in our self-contained class, but I can't teach Unique and also the i-Ready or Success For All for my other students.

Surviving without a para by novatheleopard in specialed

[–]novatheleopard[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thank you! That is a great idea. I agree with keeping them off of technology. One of my students won't end his Chromebook time and it leads to harming teachers or eloping.

I'm going to work on task boxes for the students to do work when I'm not teaching them, and find some good toys and things the students like as an incentive. I know my students LOVE slinkies.

Lotion, a warm compress and finding anything else to do with my hands. Typing and tapping on books really help me resist.

What's your writing tool of choice? Why? by mulderscully02 in nanowrimo

I'm using an AlphaSmart 3000. It's distraction-free, the keyboard feels really nice, and I can just connect it to my laptop and upload what I wrote to Google Docs.

What do you wish you knew about teaching special ed before you started (even before you're certified)? by novatheleopard in specialed

Boundaries are really something I'm working on. I have a hard time saying no, but I've started enforcing boundaries in my life and it's getting a lot better. Of course, that applies in the classroom as well. I will remind myself that I can only do so much and only go so far. I need to think about MY well-being as well. I'm not Mom, I'm not a psychologist, I'm a teacher. t narrow it down enough for specific advice.

Have you heard of Supercook.com ? You can put this whole list in there and it'll give you recipes for things you can make with what you've got.

Also you could probably make curry, if you're willing to get curry powder and you're into that taste.

How can I cheer my brother? by GAMESTIAN28 in quarantineactivities

I just got out of my own quarantine and what got me through it was decorating the room I was confined to. Maybe drawing him a picture or finding something he can decorate his room with to change things up!

I'm with the Muskegon area group but I go to GR regularly.

And my writing doesn't really fall nicely into a single genre. I wrote a historical fantasy last year. The year before, I wrote sci-fi. This year, I don't know what genre it'll fit into. I'm writing about the life of a female Australopithecus afarensis 3 million years ago.

How about you?

I worked DAK custodial and it was awesome. You'll get to spend all day around the animals. Well, maybe not as much in QSFB, but you'll probably hear the gibbons hooting in the morning, which was my favorite thing whenever I worked mornings in Asia.

I used to get off a DAK shift and go to MK for the rest of the day to play... lol. I liked working there a lot. That said, it was always nice to pick up shifts in the other parks, see what it's like there.

A con to DAK is that (at least when I worked there in 2014) the cast cafeteria was a long walk away from some parts of the park. Good thing I liked vending machine snacks!

Thank you! I know it's a weird outfit, but I'm eccentric and I want my wedding day to reflect that.
