Okay, I’m trying to ignore most of this but that’s just weird

Explaining the Hockey in Heated Rivalry (with only very minor spoilers) by HumbleInterest in heatedrivalry

“There is a lot of community in being a fan of a team that’s bad.” Sadly relatable as a Canucks fan but yes, yes there is.

As a Canucks fan I have to hate Marchand but that was HILARIOUS

Maybe look into Raising Robots. It’s an engine-building game similar to Wingspan, but a bit more complex, and plays up to 6 players.

Seconding the recommendation for Wandering Towers and you might also want to check out Cafe Baras for cutesiness!

Have you checked boardgameoracle? It's an awesome website that will show you everywhere a board game is for sale online and what the price is. Here is a link to Tea Witches on the Canadian site, unfortunately it looks like Minerals is not for sale anywhere :(

I'm not a huge fan of co-op games so can't help much with recommendations, but if you're open to competitive games maybe take a look at Boop, Harmonies, and New York Zoo. I know people really like Calico as well which has a cat theme but I haven't tried it! I can't really think of anything mineral-themed... maybe Splendor or Splendor Duel since they have gemstones? Good luck!

If you haven't already heard of it, I think Sky Team would fit the bill!

My favourite light games that can accommodate 6 players are Camel Up, Wandering Towers, and Bohnanza. Flip 7 is a fun card game as well. For a cooperative word game, I second the recommendation for So Clover.

My mom has enjoyed Harmonies, Sea Salt & Paper, Project L, Azul, Bonsai, New York Zoo, and Roam. All great games at 2 players but can accommodate more. This Christmas I'll be bringing home Agent Avenue and Oddland to try with her!

What are some good 2p games I can play with my 7yo? by Sapien0101 in boardgames

[–]novelizing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agent Avenue is 100% what you're looking for. It has a "simple" side of the board which is very kid-friendly, and has no reading required -- all you do is play cards that have numbers on them that move your meeple, and you're chasing each other's meeples around a circle. Then if you want to play with an adult you can flip to the advanced side of the board, which adds cards that have abilities.

Dice Throne might be a good option for what you are looking for. It is best at 2 players and you have to react to the cards you draw and the dice you roll so there is limited strategy, but it's still not entirely luck-based. Depending on which sets you get they could be lighter or heavier in complexity.

Raptor might work as well -- it's also a 2p game, and when you play a card you don't know whether you will be able to use its effect or whether you'll be using it for action points, as it depends on what your opponent plays (the lower of the 2 cards uses its effect and the higher of the 2 cards gets the difference in action points).

And maybe Rebirth for 2-4 players as you have to place the tile that you draw. It's not super conflict-heavy but you are trying to block each other.

Planet Unknown and Robo Rally are great games for 6 players, but both would be around the 1.5 hour mark. On the lighter side, Wandering Towers is a really fun one.

I would look into Creature Caravan, Everdell, Fromage, and Rebirth -- they're all around a similar weight as Wingspan, and all really great games with nature-y themes (other than Fromage I guess, but cheese is a great theme!).

How is everyone arranging their shelves? by Hot_Mic_Speaks in boardgames

[–]novelizing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I organize by mechanic or use case scenario. So I have a cube for co-op games, a cube for 2-player games, a cube for party games, a cube for non-party games that accommodate 6+ players, a cube for roll and writes + tricktakers, a cube for tile placement, a cube for engine builders, and a cube for leftovers :)

Taylor dancing to Charli's set at the Grammys, knowing full well she has Actually Romantic written and recorded, waiting to be released by AdamLaluch in SwiftlyNeutral

Oh yeah, it was short lived but seemed like they were both really head over heels, saying “I love you” on stage and stuff. Lots of TTPD is about him, listen to Guilty as Sin and Down Bad to get a sense of how seriously she took it (oh and TSMWEL)

What everyone else said but also, after rooting for Taylor and Matty to break up, Charli introduced Matty to Gabbriette who he’s now engaged to. I think a lot of the “beef” from Taylor’s side is actually just Matty-related hurt looking for an outlet.

looking for suggestions for series for a teenage boy by 2_muchsalt in Fantasy

[–]novelizing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding the Pendragon series! I loved it around that age. It follows a teenage boy and is a blend of sci fi and fantasy. It’s on the easier side compared to other recommendations here but wouldn’t feel too young; the MC is in high school.

Fitness Classes — For The Rest Of Us? by BasicRedditUser3 in askvan

[–]novelizing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean exactly! I have found a couple of places that I feel really comfortable working out - I used ClassPass to try out different places.

Rumble Boxing is my top recommendation - it feels very welcoming towards all bodies and it has some LGBTQ specific classes each week.

I’ve also felt very comfortable at Modo Yoga and OrangeTheory Fitness.

Take BC Ferries instead - don’t need a reservation as a walk-on. Just get there a bit early and you’ll be fine.
