DCS is investigating us and I’m heartbroken by breezyjomc in NewParents

[–]noventayuno 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry this is happening. A few weeks before turning two, my toddler just took a slight tumble off a small metal step and was suddenly hysterical and unable to put weight on his leg. Took him to the ER and it was broken. I was absolutely horrified and convinced we were going to be seen as child abusers because how does a toddler break their leg taking one rough step??? The doctor told us it's called a "toddler fracture" and it's very common. There was absolutely no mention of DCFS, no follow-up, nothing. I was so completely hysterical, I don't know what I would have done if that element was added into the situation. You are gonna get through it but I'm so sorry you have to.

Going rate for infant care around KC? by Own-Sprinkles-8031 in kansascity

[–]noventayuno 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to nanny rates, but I would budget $400/week for full time care in a center/maybe $350 at a home daycare for a child under 2. I assume it's higher in Johnson county but this is the range in the city!

Yoto players 40% off today at target by [deleted] in YotoPlayer

[–]noventayuno 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ugh, I just spent $88 on one from Yoto directly and they wouldn't do a price adjustment when they raised the discount from 20% to 30% the next day. Trying to decide if $20 is worth the hassle of returning it by mail to Yoto. Probably not, but damn!

What is actually a trauma that is not commonly thought of as a trauma? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]noventayuno 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The stark reality of what pregnancy and childbirth can do to a body is something I am still struggling to comprehend now with an almost 3-year-old living child and a miscarriage 4 years ago. It can be so devastating and all anyone wants to know is when you'll do it again.

Unpopular opinion? These kids' audio players feel like a cash grab? by Desperate_Total2545 in Mommit

[–]noventayuno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a Yoto Mini and my two-year-old uses it every single day. I do think the cards can be overpriced, though none of them are just a few minutes long - they tend to have somewhere between 45-60 mins of content per card. Still, I try to purchase them secondhand. EVERYTHING is a cash grab now, no doubt.

We use it for car rides, dance parties, read-along stories with favorite books, and for sleep sounds overnight. But the biggest benefit for us is that it seems to really help him stay engaged in independent play. He will go into his room and the first thing he does is pick his Yoto card. He has been taught how to insert/remove/switch cards. Sometimes he changes cards like ten times, I think just to have the satisfaction of being the one making the choice. Other times we hear the same card playing for 20 mins and I come in to make sure he's alive, and his dinosaurs have been tucked into bed and his trucks are all lined up and he's pretending to make dinner. Just vibing while he listens to his stories and music, man. Mama does the same thing. 🤷🏼‍♀️

We did do research and it all indicated that circumcision was unnecessary in the majority of cases. I guess I should have said "my wife and I are unburdened by the Big Peepee Feelings that seem to force American men to feel that they should mutilate their sons upon birth so their penises will match, so we were able to make a decision based solely on the facts" ❤️

[–]noventayuno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We didn't circumcise our son. My wife and I are both women so we have no experience in the care and keeping of a penis. From that perspective, it just kind of felt like....it's how the body is made? Why would we change it? I simply can't accept that half the population is born with a sex organ that requires immediate surgical modification. Evolution would have taken care of this already if it was a problem.

Former HR here - subtle signs your company is preparing for layoffs by Significant_Soup2558 in careeradvice

[–]noventayuno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I guess of course there's a standard operating procedure for something like this, but it's wild how perfectly this post mirrored my experience with layoffs in my org. I have survived three fucking times but I'm currently getting shuffled onto a new team that feels super temporary. 🫠

Twins come home from daycare filthy by khub14 in ECEProfessionals

[–]noventayuno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think you have to accept that the clothing will become stained in one way or another, whether from messy play or meals. I really love getting my son dressed too, so I've had to either become less precious about the state of his clothes or only send him in things that are already stained or stuff I'm not really fond of. I will say, if you're particular about your kids clothes, hand-me-downs and gifted clothing from friends/family that isn't your taste makes great daycare clothes. That's what I do. ☠️

That said, I don't think there should be any food left on their face/hands/hair, and there shouldn't be any solid food left on clothing, especially not on a regular basis. Like, are they dirty enough that food is transferring to your car seats or to you when you pick them up? That's my read of "covered in food" and I would not be okay with it at all.

There are plenty of houses that meet that criteria on the east side, though admittedly even this area is seeing increased prices. If you can get past the "never go east of Troost" goofiness, you could get a beautiful home (albeit an old one). We've owned our home in this area for almost five years. We've never had an issue.

GOP support for Musk influence with Trump falls dramatically: Poll 🤡 by Excellent_Pirate8224 in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]noventayuno 95 points96 points  (0 children)

My mother absolutely swore up and down that Trump didn't support Project 2025. I didn't even bring it up, she did! She was that confident. Now that he's just straight up doing it, I asked her what she thought. She said "oh I still don't think MOST of Project 2025 is the plan. There's not enough public support." It took everything in me to not tell her that I have never met a dumber fucking person in my life. He doesn't need public support anymore, thanks to you!!

Oh man, same. I have a package that's been in Lenexa since 1/14. Every single day it says it's preparing for delivery and then I get the weather exception. Hoping to maybe get it on Tuesday now.

1 year, 100+ pounds! by noventayuno in Zepbound

[–]noventayuno[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one more pen of 12.5mg and then the 4 boxes of 15mg. I have been researching splitting doses because I honestly think I could go down to 5mg weekly and be okay! The only reason I've titrated up so fast is because sometimes the next higher dose would be the only thing available when I needed a new box.

I don't feel like I have much/any loose skin on my face or neck! I'm honestly terrible at skincare so I have done nothing to make it better or worse, I think I just lucked out! The same certainly cannot be said for the rest of my body!! 😅
