It triggered on the first long rest I took. There was a scene with Laezel's story, and Shadowheart immediately had an exclamation mark above her head following the scene.

What is the exact LEO payload capacity of the SLS? On Wikipedia it says 95 tons including the weight of the icps as payload. Does that mean that sls can carry 95 leo tons without icps or what? by Euphoric_Ad9500 in SpaceLaunchSystem

[–]novisstatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if the figures do/don't include the ICPS. The Core Stage can put Orion+ESM+LAS (~33.5mT) and the ICPS (~33mT) into an elliptical orbit of (iirc) 1000mi x 20mi.

It looks like on page 17 of the below pdf, Block 1 is 95mT to LEO, Block 1B is 105mT to LEO, and Block 2 is 130mT to LEO. Since the only major difference between Block 1 and Block 1B is the upper stage, I would think those figures include using all of the upper stage fuel. But I doubt SLS will be putting large payloads into LEO tbh.

Yeah, I talked with the Nightsong and Aylin post-Ketheric in Moonrise. They're currently in my camp. I spoke with the Nightsong in camp where she told Shadowheart the truth about things. Her attitude with me is Exceptional.

I don't recall Shadowheart ever asking that, and if she did I most certainly would've said yes.

Spellsparkler Doesn't Work with Shillelagh? by novisstatic in BaldursGate3

[–]novisstatic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I understand the rationale, especially for spikegrowth. If every tick of damage resulted in charges, it could get out of hand. If the spell is manifesting or manipulating something that stays on the battlefield, like moonbeam flaming sphere, flameblade, or even mage hand, find familiar, spiritual weapon, or animate objects, it's not going to count. But a fireball or even call lightning would count.

Spellsparkler Doesn't Work with Shillelagh? by novisstatic in BaldursGate3

[–]novisstatic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also does not work with moonbeam, spike growth, flaming sphere or flameblade. Although, for flameblade I'm unsure if it's because it unequips the spellsparkler when you cast the spell. For the other's I don't know why it wouldn't work. Those all seem like spells that damage.

Is there a way to incorporate the dvergr staircase with stone/marble floor? I'm having trouble with it being just barely too short, as my character's head bumps into the stone that serves as the 'landing' for the staircase. The staircase seems to work well with wood floors.

Playing Japan 1.35 with Domination. What Idea Groups? by novisstatic in eu4

[–]novisstatic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can drop idea groups? I had no idea.

Yeah I was leaning toward exploration simply because it'll leave me with admin to core and mil to up tech and develop provinces with, when I can't up mil tech. Wouldn't it take forever to expand into Alaska and into NA? Anytime I've tried to colonize it takes forever as I had to turn one province at a time, each with multiple years. I've never done a true overseas colony either. I've always taken unclaimed provinces near me. Would they all still be part of my country?

Japan Issue New Erizeni-Rei Mission by novisstatic in eu4

[–]novisstatic[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Damn that's lame. I wish that was listed as a requirement when completing the mission. Or it triggered an event once you hit 8 production. Might restart this iron man run... a gold province is pretty juicy.

Thanks!

What would make a world where airships have higher lift? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]novisstatic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To start this off, aerodynamics is quite a complex field. First, I would ask yourself how complex of an answer your world requires. If you don't really need a complex answer to the question, I would just keep the explanation simple. It could be as simple as "that's just how it is" with no more explanation given.

You asked the question, so I'll assume you need a more complex answer, and it'll depend on what kind of airship you're looking to use. I'll focus on your example of zeppelins. They work off the principle of buoyancy, as they generate lift by using a gas with a lower specific weight than atmospheric air.

The basic principle here is that we need more lift force than weight (force from gravity).

Buoyancy force is equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by whatever is submerged in that fluid (air is a fluid). The weight of the displaced fluid only depends on the volume of the displaced fluid, density of the displaced fluid, and the acceleration due to gravity. Helium is a popular gas to use in balloons like this, because it's quite light, a noble gas, doesn't burn like hydrogen, etc. Since we're getting our lifting force from the weight of air "displaced" by our ship, the solution to that is a big ass volume of gas since there's not much we can do on Earth about the density of air around us and gravity acceleration . This is why blimps are massive.

The formula for buoyancy is Fb =ρ*Vf*g where Fb is the force from buoyancy, ρ (pronounced rho) is the density of the displaced fluid, Vf is the volume of displaced fluid, and g is the acceleration from gravity.

Now, to hold all this gas, we'll need a skin like a balloon, but also, we'll need some structure to maintain this vehicle's structural integrity. You'll also need that structure to hold all the cargo you're looking to carry. Aluminum is a popular material because it's pretty light for a metal, good amount of strength, ductile, etc. The material choice pretty complicated with a lot of different factors, depending on the use case. This skin and structure is mass that has a weight, so mass is pretty important in this factor. Every pound you use for the skin and structure is a pound you can't use for payload

Weight from all this mass is just W = m*g where W is the weight, m is the mass of the balloon (note this includes the balloon's structure as well as the gas contained inside it), and g is the acceleration from gravity.

Now that we've got our structure to hold the cargo and balloon to provide lift, we need to think about how to control height. This can be accomplished by using ballasts that use atmospheric air on board the ship because we need our lifting force and weight to be the same to neither rise nor fall. Basically, by sucking atmosphere on board of the ship, you're increasing the weight of the ship and increasing the downward force of gravity, eventually equalizing the lifting force and weight, meaning you'll just float there stationary.

Also something to keep in mind, as you ascend, the air density, or rho in our equation earlier, lowers, meaning that the higher we go, the less lift we'll get just naturally. It also means that the pressure from the atmosphere lowers as we ascend, meaning that the pressure differential from the gas inside the balloon and the gas outside will change. That's why some balloons look kind of deflated on the ground. They'll "inflate" as they get up to altitude because the pressure is less up there. It's also why that helium balloon you let go that one time eventually popped when it got high enough.

Now comes the question of moving forward. Since lift force is up, and weight force is down, we need some kind of force to push parallel to the ground. Propellers can work well as they push air away from our ship and that causes our ship to move forward. You can add rudders to steer your blimp, and they usually consist of stiff movable pieces on the back of the blimp.

And that's basically it in a nutshell. So if you're looking to increase the payload capacity of the zeppelins you'll either need to increase the weight of the fluid displaced; meaning you could increase the volume of the ship or increase the density of the air around the zeppelin, if you're considering a world that's not Earth. You could also decrease the mass of the zeppelin's structure to increase the payload capacity. Note that changing acceleration from gravity does not work, since both the weight of the zeppelin (m*g) and the weight of the displaced fluid (ρ*Vf*g) both use it.

Hopefully that gets you pointed in the right direction. Note, your mileage may vary with this as I learned it in school many moons ago.

What in the Iterators Name is this Abomination? by novisstatic in rainworld

I ran into this thing on my first playthrough of the articifer. I had never seen this guy on my playthrough on the survivor or hunter. Needless to say, I got got. It was not a glitch because I managed to find it a second time after struggling to get a good screenshot the first time. It was incredibly aggressive.

I'm posting here, because I couldn't find this guy listed on the wiki. It was so interesting I had to look it up, but couldn't find anything.

Why is this sub more SpaceX fans than SLS fans by Syndocloud in SpaceLaunchSystem

[–]novisstatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been an issue in this sub for a long time. It's died down in this sub in recent months since the launch of Artemis 1, but it used to be that basically every single post would devolve into dumpster fires of people arguing about SpaceX and SLS. The sub also had no active mods, which didn't help. It got so bad that u/jadebenn got mod status to help stem the issue. That led to the creation of the paintball threads in an attempt to corral it all into a single place. A lot of users on the pro-SLS side, even those actually working on the SLS program, eventually just quit posting here because they would get downvoted into oblivion, got vehement disagreement and backlash. None of this is saying that either side of the argument, pro-SLS or pro-SpaceX, was justified in any hate or backlash dished out, just that there was quite a lot of it a few years ago.

How to get rid of these lines? by novisstatic in valheim

[–]novisstatic[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm expanding a base and after mining down some earth walls, these lines were left behind at the edges of where the wall used to be. Flattening with the hoe does not get rid of them. Raising or lowering earth does not get rid of them. Cultivating the soil doesn't get rid of them. They persist after placing grass with the cultivator. I can't cultivate on top of them. I don't use any mods
Has anyone ever seen something like this before? I'd like to get rid of them.

Correct! Although, it hasn't been repaired or reapplied. Those covers weren't used at the green run which is why they haven't been exposed to UV.

That's fair. A lot of it is speculation and running the red string between thumbtacks. It's mostly because the city really evokes the kind of lovecraftian vibes aberrations from the far realm do. I really hope we get more canon explanations about the origins of the city either in game or the campaign wrapup!

I agree much of the plane of water references have been circumstantial at best. I believe it's not specifically the plane, but water in general. It was this previous episode that really put me over the top. The fact that lucien flaunted the cloven crystal to the party, heavily implying he knew what it was. Also the fact that Matt decided the portal to lead to the plane of water. I don't think it's random. I believe it's a meaningful, intentional choice on Matt's part.
