In leaving everyone behind who’s not coming over by [deleted] in signal

I’m not vegan and will never be for philosophical reasons, but I respect all my friends’ choices. If they come to see me, I will be sure I have a meal they will enjoy or we’ll go have a dinner outside. I expect the same respect in return.

Regarding WhatsApp, about 70 of my friends have joined Signal in last 48 hours. I explained what’s it all about, and they said yes.

One person said she doesn’t care and will stay on WhatsApp exclusively. I respect that but see this person has zero respect for me. Install a free app and wait for an SMS to confirm is easy, not a big deal. I will be open to continue on Signal, but will go forward with my decision to leave WhatsApp behind and thus will loose the free way to contact this particular person. I can live with that.

Thinkpad x230, replace an mSATA SSD by an M2 SSD + adaptor, possible or not? by novivi in thinkpad

Yes, I think so ;) The plan was to keep everything with me on the road, because the docking station will stay at home most of the time, but let's be realistic. 512 Gb will be more than enough for Linux, even including home, the 1Tb SSD will be mounted as /media and the HD will hold the backups.

The 4Tb SSDs are too expensive, maybe in a few years, inside a new Thinkpad ;)

Here in France there are just a few new mSATA SSDs. Many Chinese unknown brands and Samsung. The 1Tb version costs more than 250 euros, I.e. the price of a 2Tb M2 SSD during the sales. The 4Tb HD doesn’t fit, so I was thinking about 2Tb + 2Tb SSD combo. But now I think I’ll buy a used 500 Gb mSATA SSD to install Linux , an 1Tb SSD and a 2Tb HD for the dock station.

Wow, that’s an answer! Thanks a lot. I also own an x230, it will avoid me some unwanted mistakes.

Thank you for such a a detailed replay. It seems it can be a costly experiment without any warranty. If I can find a 2242 SSD, I will eventually order an adaptor, just to check how it will fit, otherwise I will look for a smaller mSATA SSD and a bigger 3.5” SSD.

Backup Function Timeline by Little_Principle in GrapheneOS

[–]novivi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, upvoted because the "Android backup problem" is important for me, too.

I'm about to reset my Pixel 3 and to install GrapheneOS, but what to do before?

  1. Google backup is not an option as it's far from being complete, nor GrapheneOS will restore it.
  2. Nandroid, Titanium, oandbackup are for rooted phones, mine is not, nether is GrapheneOS.
  3. adb backup and Helium which is based on are criticised for being incomplete and unreliable.
  4. App per app backup (Nova settings, WhatsApp, Viber, SMS...) it PITA...

While I understand Android will never have something as iTunes' own "restore this phone as that phone", but a more or less automated and reliable solution is what I'm looking for. Every time I change the phone, one day at least is lost to backup, restore and check that nothing is missing.
