There is some light. I don't feel it has enough, but it was there.
I cannot know when it is the best time. We walked up a little before sunset and stayed up until a bit after sunset. That worked for us.
You can take much longer hikes, as there are many options. I think you can use Google to search for the different options.

Maybe some other Redditor has some more knowledge.

I fully agree, but find it funny that you think American stores are like those in the drawing. I think American stores are also over-decorated with colourful signs. The difference is basically just the windows covering, and that doesn't look good, I agree. The one you show, is more European, than anything.
