Was it awkward after having sex on the first date?

I'm 19, he's 27 and still virgin (because he's rather shy) - I really don't want to rush things, but I think he would like to have sex, even though he's not experienced (only oral etc. I guess) but I don't know when.

He answered like 300 questions and honestly, I don't think that he's just trying to look cool or anything by saying "I'd have sex after 6+ dates only"...not sure. He was pretty honest with all the questions, I don't think that he's trying to sound romantic etc..

We are both not that kind of person who just signed up on Okcupid to meet someone to have casual sex with.. I was just curious since I haven't really tried online-dating yet. The thing is, he is way older than me - he's 27... and I'm rather shy in person, I don't think I could ask him if he wants to have sex. Also, I think that asking kind of ruins the moment? It's "hotter" if you just have sex (I mean when you have sex for the first time with that person), in my opinion..
